Hi dear sg bikers,

I currently have a very big problem and would like to consult advises from u guys.

Im currently riding a super4 spec 1 which recently broke down when i was in jb ( prolly due to my extensive travels up north). Being inexperienced i decided to repair it there, and sure enough after spending around 2.5krm it broke down again. This time i tried to bring it to the bike shop of my choice but on the way there, my bike gave way. Had to push to a nearby shop.

Upon reaching there i ask them to determine the problem, and the response i got was that my pistons have problems, had to dismantle the bike to check. Therefore i gave them the go ahead. After which i decided not to repair the bike with them as they wanted to charge me 3000. So i wanted to take my bike back from them but they said i have to pay them 400bucks for the service.

At that point of time i didnt have 400 dollars so i foolishly decided to leave the bike there in the mean time. Left it there for about 6 months as im still trying to clear my outstanding fines from URA AND HDB which amounts to almost 3k. I know most of u must be wondering how i got so many fines, well late payments of fines , court fines and mostly ill discipline on my part for not buy coupons.

Now the main problem i have is that my road tax expired last year FEB. So i have the intention to layup my bike as i dont have the money to renew my road tax and insurance anyway. However, upon calling the bike shop, they told me i have to collect my bike by this week or it will be scrapped and that if i want to claim it back i have to pay them the initial 400 for service charge and a whooping 4000 for storage. I'm really at my wits end and have no idea what to do. Im currently serving national service and i dont have much money , money that i have are currently used to pay my oustanding fines.

Please advise , i know i've made a mistake just trying to find a less painful way to pay for these mistakes.

Thanks in advance.

Move on bro.....Spec 1 is not worth the hassle...If you got this amount to pay back them, you might as well get a spec 2 or 3 depend on your budget...

hi guys, the problem is my bike is still under installments, and if i dont get it back , i dunno if i will be liable for anything else. How can i explain to LTA? just tell them i intend to scrap?

Another question, are storage fees so darn expensive? 20 dollars a day? are the service charges for simply dismantling the bike so expensive at 400?

Posted

You leave the bike there for 6 months?? I pity your guarantor.

One way is to report bike stolen in JB. Then slowly pay installment. :)

They see you Singaporean and needed help. Already a gold mine to them. After weighting your outstanding fines, current financial situation and condition of the bike. Maybe you can do this? Its just a suggestion that i can think off now. I know its wrong. Just for sharing purposes.

1. Let them scrap the bike.

2. Report bike loss to LTA.

3. You can get back your insurance and COE. Perhaps that will help you current situation.

4. But your next bike insurance will be high. You probably have to stick with class 2b for few years before regaining normal rate premiums.

Its just a suggestion.

just to clarify, my bike is currently at a sg shop.

Nvm guess i'll just have to go down and see if i can come to an agreement with them. If not i guess i have to take the advice of scrapping the bike. Thanks guys.

Sorry to be brutal but this is not the end of your problems. You mentioned that your road tax expired last Feb? That's almost a whole year. LTA is not forgiving for such matters. It may result in you losing your license (Read 99-year driving ban).

I simply think that you cannot afford vehicle ownership at the current moment. You're just piling on your problems. Perhaps you should wait until you've ORDed and have a stable job.

Is the bike shop going to write off the storage fees even if you scrap the bike? Also don't forget your instalment obligations do not go away...

If you are paying installments, then the shop who you pay installments to is holding the log card, I think you need that to scrap the bike. So the bike shop where your bike is now, cannot simply scrap the bike.

The $4000 storage fee is way too much, maybe $900 based on $5 per day over 180 days.

But you still got to pay their $400 service charge.

So long as your bike not ride on the public road or park in public place, you got no problem with lta.

if you got $$$ problem to pay tax, then can lay up the bike, this is what bike shops do. but you need private place to store it.

Anyway capping it all, it sounds like you need proper advice from a lawyer.

haha already mentioned, lawyer might be ur last chance. there's a lot of factor involved n technically we cant give good advice until all the proper documents are laid b4 us. even then opinions might varies. thus better to seek legal advice n they can properly advise wht's to be done and what they can do 4 u. pte settle with the shop if u can, however we all think the storage is ridiculous.

i had a similar case where i give a shop to do my bike but decided not to stick with them, another shop did advised me to clear off my debts if i dont trust them, cos they might come out with a storage fee.

@TS b4 u go to lawyer, perhaps can visit a few bike shop where they have more legal expertise where they can give u free advise. if u want i can recommend one, but i dont know how much they can help.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

Based on what I read on your account. If this is my bike, I will try to understand what the johor shop is more interested in - to get at least some money from you or scrap the bike (scrap could also be $$ sign). I will meet them personally and offer $1000/- all in and take the bike. 600 for storage is already $3.33 per day not peanuts.

What are thoughts about making police report in JB to recover the bike? 4000 storage is exorbitant considering land price in jb is not as ex as sg.

SG shop.. so the shop is requesting so much money from you is because of towing from JB or what?

How your bike even come back to SG? Sorry i'm lost.

my interpretation is TS using his encounter in JB as example. thus he never trusted JB shops.

this time his bike got problem in SG n he's not bringing to JB shop.

I totally lost, thats why. LOL! What I could recommend to TS is to go ask those motordiam first and see what will

they do if this was in their shoes. After getting a few feedback, then maybe you can choose to settle it out in or out of court lor.

I think this might work.

After a year of unpaid road tax, ur bike would be under wanted list by LTA. They will tow back the bike if they find it, irregardless if u owe the shop any money or not.

Ur license would not be affected due to unpaid roadtax, unless u are caught riding while no road tax is in force. However, the road tax arrears need to be cleared before u can even think of doing anything to the bike, ie scrapping, lay up, selling etc..

By the third month of road tax expiry, there should already be a court case against u, the owner, and after almost a year of unpaid road tax, I assume that you have not been attending the court case, else it would have been settled.. Which now makes u a wanted man,

My sincere suggestion to u bro, is to stop procrastinating and settle it ASAP... Debts with bike shoP although is pretty serious, will not land u in jail.. But unpaid roadtax can.. Cos on top of the arrears , there will be a fine and could be quite hefty.. And in ur current financial state, u may not be able to settle it..

Go to LTA enforcement section (should be on second floor I think) and tell them where he bike is and the situation u are in with the shop.. See what they say..

Oh ya, if you are wanted, they'll place u under arrest as well..

Bike left at shop- 6months

Road tax expire- 1 year

Tsk tsk tsk.... U've been riding for 6 mth without road tax?! Not very clever bro.... If u got summons for moving offences during that 6 mth, all I can say is gd luck to you bro..

Apologize for the long post and if i sound mean but I think this kind of thing should not be taken lightly..

Just to add, the bike shOp that's holding your bike will not be able to scrap the bike.. It's not their's to scrap. Furthermore road tax got arrears.. The only thing they can do legally, is make a case and claim from you via legal means ie via lawyers and such..

And also to note, after a certain period of uncleared road tax, and LTA enforcement still cannot find ur bike, it will automatically be de-registered. If that happens, u can start posting in garage sales for spec 1 parts..

So the best thing u can do is, go to shop and try to come to an agreement amicably with regards to the outstanding, and I do agree that the storage charge is kinda outrageous. Bike storage charge should be around $5 to $10.. I think..
