Hello, .Fellow Vara125 riders

I came across something that might be of interest to you.

Most of the supposed offroad tyres available for the vara125s are basically semi-offroad (like Michelin Sirac, Pirelli Scorpion etc etc)

I found a manufacturer that has the Off-Road tyres for Vara125s. When i say offroad tyres, i mean the real Knobby kind.. what scramblers use.

I brought my vara125 offroad in Tanah Merah recently, along with Andy_Eross, both of us using Michelin SIRAC. I am a seasoned offroader, regularly riding thru TM on weekends on my scrambler, so i had no problems on my vara125. Andy, however, had a terribly tough time, :pity: a few spills included. No damage at all, however. Thankfully. *phew*

Seeing how tough it was for him, i realised that SIRACs are not much help when really offroad. Over grass or gravel, yes they're very stable. Over mud, sand and loose soil, they're hopeless. I confirmed this with the ease i was able to do doughnuts.

That's when i really decided that since most of us are pimping our Vara125s into THE Adventure Bikes of the 2B category, why not go all the way with proper offorad tyres?

The tyre manufacturer in question is KENDA, the same brand that gave us the highly popular TRAKMASTER used by dozens of offroaders and scrambler riders. It is reliable, provides good enough traction thru the most slippery of trails, is road worthy and road legal, and has one of the best wear rates (as in, it wears out very slowly) amongst the offroad tyres in the market. Not forgetting, its VERY affordable (maybe a good 25-30% less than SIRACs?

On the "downside" (some people, not me; see this as a disadvantage), in that these are tube-type tyres. U will not be able to repair your tyre on your own if u encounter a flat.

But I say, this is a good thing. Tyre tubes cost about as much as pack of cigarettes (SDPC cigarettes) and the the VERY good quality tubes cost maybe 3 packs of SDPC cigarettes? Inflate to proper pressure, bathe with 7 flowers, do good deeds, and you're guaranteed a puncture-free ride till your next tyre change. :thumb:

So, whatcha waiting for?

Before I go on, I would like to emphasise that I am a civil servant, and in NO WAY whatsoever am i earning any "commission" or "duit kopi" or "ang pow" by pushing this idea to everyone who rides a Vara. The reason I'm asking for more interested parties to join in, is because the suppliers only will bring in the said tyres (exact fit and size for our Vara125s) only if we have more than 5 orders.

So, here's how it goes. Supplier only will order if there are more than 5 orders. If you're interested, leave yr name n contact number in a PM to me, and u may also ask me any questions you might have before "placing your order".

Again, I'm not making any money from this. The only things i hope to gain from this are more fulfilling adventures on my Vara125, as I am selling her off in the very near future. This could possibly be my Eva's Swansong.

I sincerely believe that its time the Varadero 125 REALLY lives up to its billing as the Adventure Bike of the Class 2B category. Join the revolution, put an end to Adventures along Orchard Road. Begin your Adventure OFFroad.

P.S.: Its been a long time since I've logged in to post anything, so in case this idea has already been explored, kindly share your findings.:thumb:

Cheers!

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Nuisance.

Hey Rebel,

i've riden my vara125 thru pelentong n endau rompin, n i agree w u that the scorpions r juz not good enuf. sure it may be fine on sand n grass, but the bike keeps fish tailin on soft ground n mud (maybe thats juz me).

I was also thinkin of putting on knobbies on my vara. and actually was thinkin of goin a little further in experimentation. was thinkin of puttin on taller front n reas suspensions (was told XR4 sus may juz fit) and maybe, MAYBE spoke rims...

i dunno if it might wrk, seriously...im a real newbie in bikes..

so for the knobbies, my questions wld be:

1) would it sacrifice road handling, especially on wet roads?

2) does it require tubes, even on sports rims? (ok i really know nuts bout sports n spoke rims)

well thats all i could think rite now...and i really hope more vara125 riders willin to experiment on d bike too... :cheeky:

there will be no problemo using tube tires on sports or spokey rims.

cos either way its the tube that is holding the air in.

infact, using tubes has its advantages as well. you have teh flexibility of adjusting the tyre pressure to suit the terrain. done properly, you will have less flats compared to tube tyres actually. :thumb:

tubeless tyres however must be used with proper rims. using tubeless tyres alone on standard spokey rims will not work. the air will leak out as there is no suction lock.

Datok, I also wanna learn how to change tube. long time never practice liao.

can we expriment on your fatdero? ?
