before doing my project at mcdonalds, i decided to have a look at "interesting" thread at SBF before i do my project. Ended up reading this particular thread for the past 20mins.

I must say that this thread really relates to me. I myself have been studying in singapore for quite long(after finished poly, go work 6 mnth, now continue to pursue my degree), since 2000 and still a foreigner. Both my parents are in Indonesia, currently im staying with 3 of my cousins. Few months ago i really wanted to take class 3 license, so that when my parents is here i can rent a car and took them out for a spin. The tought of riding has not crossed my mind even once. Lately, around 5 months back, one of my friend just passed his class 2b license and bought a "Pulsar 180" bike, on that day itself after he collected his new bike, he came to fetch me and we had supper together. The tought of takking license crossed my mind, but imagining the outcome of what my parents would do if i rode bike has made me dump the idea itself. My another friend recently in around 2 months back, juz bought "KTM DUKE 125" a very nice looking naked/semi scrambler bike. Taking a look at this very bike and imagining me riding it really makes me wanna take license. In the end i took bike license and have been riding for a month without their consent.

As one of the bro in this thread mentioned, i myself have been quite a filial son always agreeing whatever my parents says and wants me to do (out of respect) this time i think although they wont like it, i will still try to hold on to my bike as long as i can. Definitely gonna tell my parents im riding, juz that im waiting for the right moment which can be very crucial. Only my girlfriend approved of me riding, although she dont reallyy agree to it, even wanted to sponsor me my bike and an AGV fullface helm for my safety sake. Yeeppp, so now i've been riding CBR150 for around 1month++ and really love riding.

Afterall we only live once, and its our life =). Thanks guys for sharing ur experiences, i really hope that i will have the balls to tell my parents when the right time comes. AND...

RIDE SAFELY EVERYONE. RIDE TO RIDE FOR ANOTHER DAY!

cheers

Nice thread and nice replies from various riders. I first approached my mom on taking bike license at 16, but naturally all moms would be concerned. So she went to seek advice from the wrong person(my dad), he talk big say during his younger days he always ride his vespa to all the ulu ulu places in msia to teach. Sort of saying "if i can why he cannot". So my mom lan lan let me take.

Ride in kampung was ok, later went over to kl for studies, told my mom that i want to bring my bike to ride in the city she also abit scared, this time, dad was too. So i told my mom that "eh dad last time say so big everyday ride vespa go inside jungle", so now i also can everyday ride in the city what. Not like riding in jungle was safe for my dad and riding in city was dangerous for me rite? so that time they both lan lan.

Now in Sg, oso told them im going to ride bike, both oso never say anything (maybe nothing to say liao),only say be careful those kind of thing la...summor brother oso support saying cars in sg so exp how to buy..Rode back from sg to mlk oso they cant say much..haha...

So that's my story...

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...

depends. Phantom, generally no 'cos easy to fish tail. My Shadow Aero 750, yes. Very stable, even from strong winds still can handle.

my rxz can sway from left of lane 2 to right of lane 2..omg..

i did that for my 2b,2a,2

cos of a terrible accident happens years back on my K2, they kinda terrified and BAN me from riding.

afterwhich i bougt myself a car but after driving for couple of year, i sold it off and secretly bought a CBR1000RR.

right now i duno hw to break the news to them, so its like waiting for them to catch me. LOL

it has been half a year, they know already?

how to rider carried stuff while riding? a big bag pack?

handle bar or front basket also do..

17 years ago, my mother flipped when I took my first bike home. 17 years later, she is still nagging at me to sell all my bikes.

So there.

waahahha!! how i wish that my mum and dad was just like that, they nag because they scared we kana..hais..but mine is..omg..you get a tattoo, a bike or what crap, out you go..

i took almost 2 years to convince them to finally give the green light... even helped me purchase d bike.. though its a phantom.. they say old man bike safe.. i cannot go fast.. HAHA! AS IF! but one way i managed to make them trust me more, is pillion them, n show them wat a safe rider i am.. :) hope they can trust me enuf to help me wif a 2A bike! wahaha!

0-o..when pillion them, no drag start, no drag gear, no sudden revv, safe distance, no speeding,

but but

when they're home, pop clutch, wheelie when taking off, squzee in between cars and trailers!!, do all sorts of things with a phantom!!

wahahaha!! joking ehs, dont flame me :)

not a problem for me, my dad rides a super four and loves bikes haha

hahas, with those wider handle bar and they look sporty!!

It's all the stereotyping about riding a bike that has parents all clingy and paranoid. Mine didn't care either way. My dad was a little bit concerned but not about the bike part; he was more like "but you're pint size!" I think that was dad speak for "you're a midget and people can't see you on the road so watch out." My mom had a more amusing response: "biking? Awesome. I love Harleys! But you have like ZERO hand eye co-ordination and your sense of balance sucks. So if you get into an accident don't come cryin' to me. But ooh! Let me help you pick out your first bike and so help me if you get a scooter I WILL disown you." Gods, I love my mom. :-D

hahas, cute man!! hmmm..if they actually understand, scooter are not that prone to accident compared to sports bike or naked cruisers..cause no gear and clutch..can concentrate more..i remember when i changed from scooter to rxz, omg, it sucks totally..

they die die wont allow, they've seen alot of accidents and they really don't wanna me take 2b.

but i didn't care. i've listened and done everything they told me to for the most of my life, it's time i do something for myself.

they knew when i rode my bike back home. althought they were pissed, they knew they couldn't do anything about it as well. I was earning my own money and was responsible enough (gears and mentality).

they still nag, but which parent wouldn't?

just tell them you're taking the licence first, if they allow, good for you. if not, try explaining to them and assuring them you're a safe rider, if you're safe in the first place.

yea, my father really hated bikers, because of those rude ones and those that got banged..but when i told my dad, " PA, but hor, if wear proper gear hor, ride properly hor, dont get run over by some **** hor, actually wont die one leiis" then he was like kinda convinced..hahas..

they never say yes. but still i go and take my 2b. tsk tsk.

my dad even came along and watch me do my first few practical haha :o

they always want to see how we fail..

that being said, im really envious of people who have their parents blessings for 2B. i think it helps a lot.

hahas, you wont want your FF gone..
