Hi, just wondering and scratching my head here. Just this morning I had a very near miss with this lorry with a foreign looking driver at the front. Today wasnt the only day time I had this encounter but many times before. I am sure many of us guys motorcyclist have this experience before. Whether is the fair or the dark skinned foreigner doesnt matter but when I tried to take my class 3 and above, I thought it was very more difficult than my university exams but I am very surprised that many of these FD have actually passed so easily. Maybe their driving skills learning curve better than mine but why is it that when they drive on the roads, they become like they are in their own countries. Now we know their countries have million and millions of citizens so 20 die a day do not matter, but do they have to really drive that way in Singapore.

Now come to motorcyclist: i met 2 or 3 ang moh motorcyclist from england and wish to ride in singapore and hoping to buy their bikes here. guess what. they have to show all kind of documentation to show their capabilities and if not follow the rule go class 2b to 2a and then 2. now if you were my friends there, what would you do. take the class 3 or class 2. and the strange thing is the one from england are more educatedthan the other foreigner. You figure!!!

if you are a foreigner, you can obtain a valid local driving license via one of either two ways:

1) take the local license test like all us locals, or

2) if the person already has a licence in his/her home country, the person may apply for conversion locally.

method 1 needs little explanation, except that if bike license the person is subject to 2b->2a->2 just like all of us.

method 2 i do not know if a person with 'open' licence (any cc) will convert directly to class 2 or still subject to the 3 classes. i once attended a class 2a lesson with an ang moh who claimed he was instructed to take class 2a for conversion. red tape obviously will be there, no need to say, but can convert.

also, not all countries' licence can convert. for example, the authorities no longer accept conversions of licenses from India. wont say any more than that. bottomline, workers from India must take class 3 or 4 or 5 licence with locals no matter wat document of licence from India he has.

and finally, wats a piece of laminated paper really? you question their 'licence', when a safe rider/driver is more than that laminated or plastic licence. anybody can take proper lessons and tests, but after get licence drive/ride like idiots you cant blame the system so much.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

i know of a china bus driver who had over 10years experience in his country and only passed his TP here on the 4th attempt here. so it not easy for them to get the licence here. unless they converted their oversea licence here and that will be another story.

I agree some of them take a while to get their licence here even though they have years of experience in their country, but why the majority tend to drive like they are back in their countries??? while i ride say 2 -3 hours a day just to go/from work, but i get many instances of FTD who just cut me off, no signals, going corner at high speed etc and what can we singapore riders do except write to this SBF and newspaper. even if we complain to TP, what can they do. My house thief steal from window, also still not solved
