Hope bros here can help.

my palsar 180 broke down on 4/4/11. Sent it to my regular service shop along defu lane on the same day. I was initially quoted somewhere along the 400-600 range for a top engine overhaul. Trusting them, I agreed for the overhaul to commance straight away as I needed the bike for work.

A day later, received phonecall by their boss telling me the engine needs a top n lower akas full overhaul for around 800. Without any other choices, I agreed hoping at least 800 would gives my engine a new life. The second day, received phonecall by the same boss saying the connecting rod crooked and need me to pay additional 200. I was shock tat the same shop I have frequented for 4yrs now seems to see me as carrot. No choice again, I agreed after the boss promise he will do a solid job and even spray paint, wash n touch up on the 4.5yr old bike.

went to collect my bike this afternoon after 1 full week n found not only was it not touch up, greese n dirt was everywhere n even the meter which was perfectly fine before has misted up badly( bike was park at open car park at my place). Battery was not charge n cant start at first, n the engine sounds adnormally loud n sandy. I collected it nonetheless after promises all engine sounds bad after an overhaul. Just my luck, it broke down again on my way home.

Questions to all bros. Since the bike has traveled less then 15km n broke down on the same day, will I be refunded my overhaul money back? If they tried to charge me for another overhaul again, wats my options? since my bike broke down after midnite, will I be able to claim transport charges against them? I have all the towing receipts from LTA, motor overhauled detail receipt n taxi fares receipt. Thanks for reading

So you didn't watch them while they do their work?

They have many tactics to get you to pay more like say something is broken when it isn't just because you weren't there.

You can use the receipt against them, question them why they do full overhaul then still spoil? If overhaul again and spoil because their mechanics lousy how? Easier to just go another shop.

Usually they will not refund back the money but they will "repair" it for u FOC... I've encountered this b4.. A week after my spark was overhauled, my engine produce a loud rattling noise. Went back to the shop and they check it again. On top of that, they overhaul for me again for free cuz it was due to their mistake for not tightening one of the screws inside and it causes my conrod bearing to loose... Till then, no problem at all... :) Satisfied with their service...

Try goin back to the shop and tell them abt tis. If they are willing to overhaul again for free since its their mistake, then so be it.. If not, just fuc*** them back and lodge a complain against them....

i was wondering if any bros here has successfully won any cases against bikeshop for such a matter?

would CASE even take up this matter against them?

time durations (rough guide) n how much would it cost to take this matter to CASE?

thanks for helping

Why don't you call CASE? Should not cost you any money.

Suzuki RG125 Gamma, Suzuki GN125, Suzuki GSX400FW, Suzuki GSXR 400'J', Honda CBX400F, Kawasaki EN400,Suzuki Intruder 750, Yamaha FZX750 Baby VMAX, Daihatsu Charade, Fiat X19 Bertone, Mitsubishi Lancer, Yamaha RXS 115, Honda TA200

Not entirely true.

Calling for advice or consultation, yes should be free.

Logging a case on the other hand, requires registration which costs anything from $8-$400. Then add on the admin fee to handle the case.

Unless they have changed the requirements in recent years, best is to check the website.

Just went to collect bike n was told cam is spoilt this time. As usual, the boss told me to pay up 90 for the cam, labour is foc. I almost told him to f off. In the end, he told me if I dont pay, he would not do any more "free servicing" for the engine the next time which in which I just took my bike n rode off. All in all, very bad experience n I would never return again.

I'm thinking that the cam can only be damaged by something not being adjusted to spec during the overhaul. Anyway, the Pulsar is a new bike right.. need to overhaul so fast?! Better sell it and get a more reliable bike.

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

So far,the only honest bike shop that can do 100% overhaul is Koon Motors. Many others, mostly, simply open up ya engine, drama a bit and close your engine. What they did was just replacing a single most vital component and let the rest of the damage parts still running. they charge you for overhaul. soon your bike will break down and u will send for another overhaul or repair. this is how they earn money

so far, as far as i know, pulsar servicing, just go back to universal motors.

parts, other shops also get from them.

they work almost exclusively on pulsars so have seen more or less most of what there is to see.

I overhauled my old X1 at Unique Motor, the down time was 4 working days. Bike was running good. To be fair, work shop can only give you a rough quote on the overhaul repairs. They can only be certain after they open up your engine to see the internal parts and determine whether to change or not. Then only after changing the parts, fixing back and testing then you can have the final sum. Because sometimes after testing, certain problems still persist and need to change other parts. It applies to all automotive vehicles whether is it motorcycle or cars.

As for cams, it is weird to suddenly "spoil" after overhaul. Unless some adjustment was not up to spec, thus causing damage to the cam.

Don't mind can PM me the workshop too?

Sorry to heard this. $800 you should sent it to Universal Motor( the main pulsar dealer and repair) for overhaul will cost less than $800.

Very true and fair comments and opinions.

Sometimes bike shop will change the minimal to keep the price low for the customer . That's something some customers want but other may want a solid ride and opt to change all necessary parts associated with that sector of the machine (ex but reduce downtime and needing to open everything again to fix should there be another case of wear and tear)

After riding for sometime you should know or go read up , what are your bike needs and the rough time parts needed to be changed . And if you constantly push your bike to the extreme then be prepared to fork out more for maintenance , better aftermarket parts etc . This should expected .

Btw can PM me as well . Thanks

Doing everything DIY that I can now.. Judging by the way things are rite now , it is for the best..

Makes you stronger and less dependent on bike shops.

Encourage others to do likewise and help new riders identify fair deals online~ thus making direct seller to buyer purchases.

Its the only way we can push the motorcycle industry in Singapore forward.
