My owner manual does not state anything abt what kind of final drive oil to use.

The info page from recko above is not from owner manual right? If indeed use 10w-40, then we can also use our leftover fully-syn engine oil to replace? thus saving the $ to buy gear oil?

I got it from the forum http://silverwing.org under the maintenance section. I also posted quite a few links from there in the SW Tech Corner thread, you guys might find it useful if you're into d.i.y. maintenance. :D

I don't blame people who doesn't show courtesy, they just didn't get taught on how to do so.

inside the owners manual sure have one. and the oil is confirm 75w90.

u can also go ask around which bike shop uses 10w40 for the final drive oil aka gear oil. if there is one that uses 10w40 oil, pls let us know.

which japanese 2a scoot have better fuel consumption than s4? from what i read is s4 fc 22-25, burgman 400 25-28? what about the rest of the scoots? and how is the power compared to s4? stock to stock of cos.. understand that s4 have lots of available racing parts..

In my experience, due to the nature of SW engine (twin), fuel-economy is the worst of its class. But the rest of the factors SW scores great, should be able to overcome that single set back.

oh yes, SW has one of the most comfortable pillion seat....

i would seriously consider of getting a 2a scoot over s4 will be cos of mainly storage space. can underseat put 2 full face helmets, 2 sets of raincoats? bonus if can put a haversack in as well. am i asking for too much to be squeezed in?

Rat bike - A motorcycle not necessarily kept in pristine condition, often painted matt black. Minimal maintenance and mismatched parts often used.

i know burgman 400 and X8 can put 2 helmets and raincoats.

somemore can put a big box behind.

saw a SW on the road behind, it's really fast.

seems like it can cruise at quite a high speed and go touring too.

anyone knows X8 or SW have better top speed?

i feel 2A scoots are the best mix.

if class 2 i rather go for a bigger bike.

class 2b scoots may be too underpowered when you are fully loaded with luggages and a pillion. not really suitable for fast touring.

btw what about burgman 400 and Majesty 400 ?

which is the fastest 2a scoots ? and how is their fuel consumption?

which is the fastest 2a scoots ?==> This reminded me of a very common question ..... from s4... WHich Spec is the fastest...

I think it should be rephrase to what are the range of speed for scoots? Burgy, Swingers, Majesty?

FC......... Owing to the fact tat its a scoot. U throttle happy. FC sucks. Constant control will see max efficiency.

Correct me if I am wrong peepz.

Swingers go for touring are fine.

From what i know

Swing4 top 150~?

Swing6 top 170~?

Rest of the other makes i not sure.

Kind old birdies fill in the blanks? Scarab!

Btw 2_wheeler should be on this way to Northern thailand now. Should be in Hatyai already. Ready to see his pic from Mae Hong Song in 2 weeks time.. hehehhe

i'm using 10W40 as my gear oil..so far so good. no problem ! went up to phuket and back and ride till now, still the same. not much different. Trust the manual..

2 roads diverged into a wood, and I-I took the road less traveled and that makes all the difference!

Tell you all the truth hor, I don't whack top speed on my scooters - no guts for that.

Ano.......SW(both400 & 600) you can add another 10 to 20km/h for the top cos it has been done before.

As for YP400 & Burger 400...dunno which one faster but when I rode my burger 400 at 140km/h back from Hatyai, consumption still getting around 25km per litre....my burger 650 will return about 19 to 20km to a litre. SW will give you a return of 17 to 18km a litre if you are going at 130km/h or more all the way... :p

tire pressure play a part. its something like why some can hit a top speed of 180 but some can't even pass 170.

talking abt the suspension, setting it harder will have better FC. but not forgetting the dangers that might happen if the front & rear suspensions are not balance.

*burgman 400 from K3 to K6 runs on a single cylinder SOHC engine. top speed is only abt 162km/hr.

*dunno abt the K7 onwards cos it runs on a single cylinder DOHC engine. Same as the Grand Majesty 400. this 2 top speed should be abt the same.

*fastest 2A scooter is the Honda Silverwing 400 Euro version. Top abt 180km/hr.

*Silverwing 400 Euro should have a better top speed comparing with the X8 400. Cos the Silverwing runs on a twin cylinder DOHC engine. the mid to top is better. X8 400 runs on a single cylinder engine.

Locally, the Honda Silverwings till date only 3 models. Starting from oldest to newest.

1. Silverwing JDM 600

2. Silverwing JDM 400

3. Silverwing Euro 400

From wat i've seen and tested, the Silverwing JDM 600 & Euro 400's top speed is abt the same. As for torque, Silverwing Euro 400 has the best.

Silverwing JDM 600 is good on the mid.

This have been posted in previous threads. Setting the rear suspension will have lesser "SAG" when u open trottle from pick up & over taking. Thus need lesser power to reach desire speed. This will allow better FC and better top. But remember the dangers.

I used to use SAE 80/90, but after i found out from the manual, i changed if back to 10W40..when i drain out, the visocity of the oil very much diff. From my 1st change, so i believe the gear oil SW is using is 10W40..and the manual states too..

2 roads diverged into a wood, and I-I took the road less traveled and that makes all the difference!
