hey guys, i just bought a second hand YZF-R1 04 version.

 

1). There's this big white light that lights up every time u turn on the key. what is this light for?? only for nice looking?

 

2). cause i am new to the bike, i sometimes dunno that i am at top gear because there's no light indicating i am at top gear, any tips on this?

 

3). the temp shows 95 degrees and above most of the time i ride, and when it goes above 100 degrees, there's this weird noise coming out. what is this weird noise? and is it ok? it sounds like some fan cooling down the engine, but i dunno if it is. and what should be the normal temp shown?

 

4). the body chassis, which is the body frame, the black metal frame. is it supposed to be very warm? it heats up very easily... if it's not supposed to be very warm, sometimes hot, what might the problem be??

 

5). lastly, what is the full tank volume? and how much distance can i cover with a full tank?

1) should be the rev light for yr rpm(can be set wan to the rpm hat u wan it to switch on)

 

 

2) should be when the rev light switch on lor

 

3) the fan is switch on (normal temperature depends on yr riding .. of coz if crusing then wont so fast heat up)

 

4) i think its normal

The white light you are talking about I think is what that is known as shifter light. It indicates that you've reached a certain desired RPM speed, to notify the rider that it's time to change gear. Default shifter light comes on in 7k rpm I think, goes off at 8(?).

Calculate on your own. R1's top gear rpm for 90km/h should be slightly less than 4k, about 3.8k rpm. 3k is 70km/h.

As mentioned, it's the spinning of the fan sound once it reaches 105°C, then it will stop spinning once it falls below 100°C again.

Yeap it's like that. R1s are very hot. At least for 04 - 06 models they are. You can try Maxima's coolant(coolaide) to replace the stock coolant, or remove the thermostat which opens only at 80°C to bring down the temperature earlier.

 

5). lastly, what is the full tank volume? and how much distance can i cover with a full tank?

Full tank for 04 R1 should be 18.5 litres. You should be able to hit 18~18.5km/litre with very very conservative riding (shifting gears at 2~2.5k rpm). You should at least hit 250km before reserve. About 310~320 in total, it really depends on individual riding style.

Ans : Its the gear shift indicator light , set to light up upon reaching a certain rpm to remind u to change gear

Ans: Mentally remembeing wat gear u r in is always the best , anyway the r1 has 6 gears

Ans: its normal for city riding in the afternoon . Normally while be arnd 85 deg . N yes , the sound is the cooling fans running .

Ans : Yes , its warm after riding as the engine generated heat .

Ans: Max capacity is 18L , normal use until 14L reserve light will light up . Normal mileag is arnd 220-260km until reserve light is shown .

this light will light up when is trottle to a certain rp about 10k

that is when the maximum torque given and when u are at lower gear time to change the gear to the next gear. u can try out by just neutral gear and rev the bike.... u will see it light up.... and please rev slowly and increase throttle bit by bit... till the light up... about 10k plus i remember.. please try not to over rev. to the red line

2 ways

 

1. is to manual remember u will get use to it and remember one...

 

2. install those digital indictor for gears. R1 got 6 gears.

when temp exceed 104 degree upon 105 degree the fan will switch on. dun worry it is normal. once cool down to 100 it will stop. class 2 bikes are like tat cos it is damn hot. f.y.i i read up some where if the temp hit 130 the machine will cut off the engine till it is cool down to 100 degree.

class 2 lor.... = hot hot hot

2) Top gear 4K rpm is around 95 kph. Nice cruising rpm for local expressways, don't you think?

 

And 5K is abt 117kph. It's about 22 to 23kph per 1K rpm in 6th gear. 7K should fetch you around 163kph. Nice for NSH cruising too.

 

 

 

3) Riding in town right? Traffic lights right? Don't worry. Though it will lower your sperm count, it's all part of the R1 riding experience.

 

Think about this in a positive light. After a while, you won't need a condom, or any other form of contraceptive, for that matter... for birth control. ;)

 

 

4) No problem. Modern 1000s are incredibly compact. Add the high compression ratio, and you get a nice recipe for a giant Vasectomy without surgery. :D

 

Enjoy being able to shoot your load into any piehole with a much reduced risk of accidental babies. :thumb:
