Hi all,

Really need to ask some qns on X8.

Jus took over a X8,COE till 12/2014,with only mileage of 42448km.I was surprised as mileage so low for a almost 8 years bike.So the next qn on mymind after taking over:-

Engine Oil

Can share where to drain out the EO?

Any EO filter?Or just an oil strainer?

Gear Hub Oil

Where to drain out the oil?

What type of oil to use?

Coolant

Is it needed to drain all coolant and top new one. I open the cap can see a healthy level but the colour like rust. My mechanic say bopian one, even you drain and top new, after a while...will also see the rust colour.....true or not

Belt

Previous owner say maybe belt to change at 60000km. For average user, how long,in mileage can a belt last.

Any other advice to give. Tks

draining out the eo requires a size 24 wrench... as for the oil filter it is always reccomended to use original OEM or Malossi oil filters... you dont want improper filtration of the filter which might cause damage to your engine!

the gear hub is just located on the rear right side of the crankcase which can be easily spotted with a dipstick... screw it out and u can spot the oil level with the stick! as for the oil... i always use maxima's gear oil! their cheap and provides a decent lubrication to your gears!

if u see a rusted coolant in the reservoir, please be advised to drain it to prevent any other engine parts from rusting too!

belt change is always advisable from 10,000km onwards... some may last even long depending on your riding style.

have done a full servicing by Botak today and felt very satisfied as the ride is very smooth after service.

also, Mr. Botak had mentioned he will be taking over the shop.

Starting June.

So do take note, no need to squeeze through the barriers next time into small lane already. :thumb:

Bro, hows ur bike condition now? any updates?

Hi Bros, I've been having a problem with my x8. Wondering if anyone have encountered similar problem.

Did my full servicing earlier this year. Was told by the mechanic to change my original clutch as it's worn out and not gripping well. Was convinced to change to a polini speed clutch. Also told that inner lining of my OEM speed bell is scratched and need to change. Was charged $60 for a used OEM speed bell.

Problem started to surface after 1-2weeks. When I throttle up from rest, between 0-20km/h, can feel the clutch jolting hard and not catching onto the bell. This jolting only happens when I transit from netural to engaging the clutch and disappears when speed picks up. When I went back to the shop, was told by the Owner that a Polini speed bell is more suitable for used with a Polini speed clutch and was advised to change it. Speed bell was changed, transmission was cleaned up and it was nice and smooth when I left the shop.

By the end of second week, same problem surfaced. This time they said try changing the spring to see if the problem can be arrested. All was ok when I left the shop but exact same problem surfaced after 2weeks.

Anybody had similar problem? Hope someone can help..Thanks!

Power likewise, on the above 3 models, i would recommend a Silverwing as ur riding a S4 currently.

As 2B scooters are mostly 4-strokes, they are not as powerful as an 2-stroke SP150.

Silverwing 400 is a good workhorse & power likewise is good, will not feel a very big difference ovr ur S4 compared to a 2B scooter.

Maintenance for Silverwing is quite good.

Engine oil uses 2+ litre, spark plugs x2, oil filter uses the same as S4.

Parts wise, easily available found in parts shops. (Check silverwing tech. thread).

End of the day, it depends on ur budget as well. Work it out, then decide which bike to get.

Hi guys..i would like to get one of this bike..but not sure which one is better?any advice..thanks..;)

Atlantic and X8 200 are of similar qualities but each have their own setbacks.

Their engines are from the same source but are rebadged individually.

To rate the from my experience is that they have good italian engines, most of the class 2B italian engines are far more powerful then

their Asian competitors but (or should i say "and") Italian scooter engine has "character",

unlike the ultra-reliable-but-boring Japanese engine

just that Aprilia local distributorship is always giving a BIG question mark on spareparts supplies.

Piaggio X8 are a tad better at spareparts support and generally, X8 is a newer model, thus there are more newer units.

Atlantic typically are coming to COE ends or renewed.

FOr Burgys, it is a different license category, with still a single engine, power and speed is slightly better then the

last 2 compared models. Compartment wise, Japs always win both hands down. They are almost the only logical beings in the

world that design nice compartments (erm, thats my opinion)

but sadly, Burgys are not very pop these days due to the high inflation of Jap Yens, making the Burgys overpriced.

and.....the recent invasion of the Taiwanese and Korean brands (ie, SYM, Kymco, PGO and Daelims)

If you wanna get a burgy, i would suggest older one (ie K3, K4 etc), those coe ending soon in 2013 and 2014 onwards.
