hi, can ask sometin to the SO in this forum.

1)Does the NTUC safety cert for supervisors recognised by companies in spore?

2)Do we need to be a safety supervisor for few years b4 we could be a safety Officer? I got a diploma in engineering , was thinkin of taking the NTUC course.

thanx a lot.

Application to register as a Safety Officer might help you understand better....

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

Was surfing MOM website for some information when I chanced upon this website.

Decided to share to prevent any one of you out there getting "conned" by other schools or institutions (e.g. a private institution offering a similar Safety Officer course somewhere near Tekka Market, I shall not mention names) offering Safety Officer Training Course (SOTC).

I think MOM only recognised the SOTC course from these three school :

Good luck to all RSOs!! :)

i went to this recruitment agency to submit my resume for safety officer jobs. While i am there , i asked them what is the current market salary for safety officers in oil/gas, shipyard, manufacturing etc. He say salary range very wide now.

He told me there is 2 openings, one is a leather sofa factory in defu road, the other is a petrochemical MNC. He also advised me what is expected salary for these 2 jobs based on type of industry & my experience.

I think going thru recruitment agencies has certain advantages like this; you get advice from them , so you dun overprice or underprice yourself accordingly.

1. I heard that the Safety Officers Training Course (SOTC) is "separated" into 4 major areas, e.g. oil/gas, shipyard, etc now... It is NO longer the generalised SOTC that we used to study in SP. Can anyone enlighten on is it true? And if it is true, what are the 4 major areas now??

2. I am considering very hard (in fact, I should say struggling very hard within my heart) to sign up for the Benosh offered by PSB which is a BSc in EHS by Uni of Newcastle in Australia and this degree is also accredited by MOM.

Has anyone here studied (& graduated from) this degree before? Or is anyone going for this course soon?

Those that have graduated. Can I ask how's the course like? I heard it is very difficult to study, am I right??

Thank you all!

S$4494...?!?!?! *FaINTzz*

Mine was S$2964 or something like that. I started in July 06, graduated Jul last year.

The old Safety Officer Training Course includes a few industries like construction, shipyard, etc...

I heard the new course is "specialised" into the different industries.

Yes, during my time, the first 6 months for me were lectures followed by exams for the 3 modules I took within the 6 months.

Then upon passing the three exams, the remaining 6 months from Jan 2007 - Jun 2007, I had to complete about 6 assignments at my workplace, then compile it inot a report (a little similar to our poly 3rd year project) and submit it to the lecturers. One of the lecturers from SP will be you supervisor and he will visit you at your workplace to give you advice on the project and also to grade you on one of the assignments if you happen to choose that assignment.

I notice entry criteria for (SOTC) specialist diploma in WSHO has been lowered. Ppl with 5 yr experience as safety coordinators can also signed up. No need degree or diploma to sign up SOTC. This means after 1 yr, spore may be flooded with SO.

So best way forward to secure our future is upgrade to degree in HSE. I think the job market & salary for SO will peak in 1 yrs time, then it will decline when oversupplies kicks in. So a degree in HSE may be useful to keep the salary high.

haha, im a fresh grad. not RSO yet. :)

hope to learn a lot there and would go for the SO course in spore poly soon.

dun miss the chance, SO jobs in jurong island are rare normally, only this year is booming. Grab it fast.

Responsibilities wise is no worst than construction sites SO, coz most accidents happen there & workers in such place not so literate to understand what you saying. Oil/gas SO deals with people more literate usually.
