hi there..! just took ntuc bcss exam last week 30 jan 09. test question very tough..100 MCQ. most of the question came out differ from wat i've study..n some must use commonsense..unfortunately i flung..mayb over confident.

anyone out there ever took from ntuc..can share. or anyone got the QnA.

Hi all,

 

Many members here are still taking BCSS. For your information, BCSS is not valuble now.

 

You should be looking into the Safety coordinator course conducted by MOM ATP or Advance Cert in WSH by WDA ATO.

 

Those who wish to work oversea eg Middle East, should take the NEBOSH IGC or higher qualification, NEBOSH International Diploma.

Hi nage,

 

Due to the economic downturn, there are many programs introducted by the WDA. This is to help those who would like to change their career due to retrenchment or company to tie over by avoding retrenching their employees. There is a SPUR program which is highly subsidised by the gov.

 

Basically, if you want to become a safety supervisor, you need to have at least a certificate in WSH accredited now by WDA under the WSQ qualification. I think your problem is that now due to the demand, priority is given to those who is sponsored by company. However, you still can try to enrol directly to the training provider that provide this course. You can log into http://www.mom.gov.sg and go to the training provider to find out which training provider that conduct such courses.

 

In the past those safety courses are conducted by MOM ATP but now gradually WDA is taking over and if you want to become safey supervisor, you have to take the WSH supervisor cert course and to become a safety coordinator you need the advanced certificate in WSH.

 

I feel you may face some difficulty in securing a safety supervisor job without the experience. Normally company send their existing staff who involve in some safety activities in the company for the WSH course and later assisgn them as full time safety supervisor. Most company do not employ safety supervisor who have no experience at all in safety. BeforeI become a WSH officer, I started off as a safety supervisor but the company employed me then was I used to double up as part-time safety supervisor in my previous company.

 

I hope my explaination give you a better picture and if you still in doubt, do let me know.

 

I know of only one company that employ those without any experience and train them on the job ie Orion

Log into http://www.wda.gov.sg and look for WSH certifcate, advanced certificate, gradute course.

 

As for WSH coordinator job, you can try to contact safety consultants like Spot Management Services or Concord Associates, they always looking for safety personnel. You need to have the relevant certificate to apply for the job.
