Newbie to this forum. :)

I am also an RSO.

The current Safety officer course is competency training.

There is no exam for it. It takes only 6 months to complete.

The reason is because, since 1st March, additional Workplace is included under the WSH Act.

Companies are crying that there is not enough SO in the market to fill up the positions. :)

Good for those who are already SO. In 1 yr time, SO will be flooded.

It only need "o" levels to be an SO. From previously - Dipoma.

Sigh..

There will be assignments. But there will be no exams.

i.e. assignments can be everyday after class. or after every subject.

Basically they are testing your competency.

Previously, was - First 6months: Theory/ exam. Next 6months will be project/ assignments plus presentation.

This new system is very confusing. Because currently only 1 batch at SP and 1 batch at NP is running. You might want to contact SP lecturer to enquire more.

In Safety, there are alot of thing to learn. Not just the safety officer course. Using just the safety officer cert, is bare minimum. You still have to consider ECO, FSM, etc.....

Can PM or email me if you require more information. I will be glad to assist you. More convenient and easier to communicate.

Cheers !

Yes, I agree... The cert is just bare minimum...You will still have a lot a lot to pick while on the job.

I believe I was from the last batch in SP when I graduated last July, where we attended the 6-months lectures+exams, then the 2nd 6-months, we had to complete assignments and submit a report.

BTW, does any RSO here still have their professional review when we are submitting application to MOM to become a RSO??

I am having a bit of trouble writing up my review as I prepare to make my application.

Initial application will take a little longer now.

estimated is about 3 to 4 weeks.

Renewal is simple. :)

Btw, any Freelance RSO want to work additional part time?

Let me know. I have a few sites (Construction) coming up.

Cheers !

Thanks for the info about the application.

But I must write up my Professional Review first b4 I can submit it for my application.

Any advice, bro? Or anything "format" for me to follow? If not, never mind. Thanks anyway. :)

Maybe you can email on your safety involvement.

There is no format. Have to explain in details on your safety committment.

i also recently apply online for RSO, but i didn't notice got the professional review part. Hope i didn't miss something serious.

------

something keep bugging me, my fren ask me want to work in oil/gas construction project - almost 10k per month , 2yr contract in jurong island. But all my years of experience is in running plant (also oil/gas), occasionally deal with contractors on Risk Assessment & Method statements on new equipments & plant expansions. Have no idea about construction safety mgt in projects in oil/gas.

Any tips from any SO here? Is it similar or simple to manage such a work site?

I think it meant your experience in Safety.

You need to have a write up of your experience attached with the application.

U write a email to them, request them to put you in the waiting list.

Once your slot is confirm, they will ask u to issue a cheque.

Me kiasu, went direct to their office to give the lady(Shin Hui) the cheque.

Where can we register for this ECO course?? Where do we go for the ECO classes??

For those who have attended it, is it a more difficult course than the SOTC?? :)

Any website for reference?? Thanks very much.

---------------------------

a friend of mine with engineering dip & SOTC & Nibosh cert recently got a new mgr position , salary more than 8K. He keeps telling me i must get a Nibosh cert but i was sceptical - until he showed me a letter from his new boss, who notified the europe HQ to say that they hv employed some one with Nibosh & a safety dip. He told me european MNC dunno what we learn at SOTC, they dunno our safety standards can meet europe's standard. But if a SO got Nibosh, he knows u hv met the UK safety standard for sure.

So i planning to go take Nibosh , not in spore (>$5k) , but in jb for 1/4 of the amount.

Anyone else interested ?
