Looking for a bicycle, doesn't matter what type, as long can get me from point A to B.

Can use motorcycle but I figured its a waste of petrol as workplace very near, ride abit no point but walk abit far so settle on riding bicycle, I believe riding is making me fat too.

Can recommend me a shop somewhere in the west side? Want the bike cheap2, can tahan abuse as well if riding is an indication.

you going to ride on pavement or on the road? i use a 20 inch wheel for pavement, 26 inch for road. you need smaller wheels to mount on and off kerbs easily.

on the contrary, bigger wheels are easier to roll on/over kerbs.

exactly the same reason why scramblers are using bigger wheels than road bikes..

not the same terrain, sg streets pavement are narrow, sharp corners, sharp angles, bigger wheels hop over you may overshot, and end up in the wrong place. open terrain you have more margin of error.

And you cannot cycle too fast to avoid hitting pedestrians.

narrow, sharp... length of wheelbase is more of a concern than the size of the wheels.

These are the bikes i am talking about, 20" wheels for urban assault (yes, in biking community, there is such term, same as parklour or something). Comes with full front and rear suspensions to soak up the bumps. It can be really fun riding a good bike on the streets.

I tried 26" wheels before, and it was horrible for me, maybe i am short, but different individual would have choice of different weapon for their war. So choose your urban assault weapon wisely...

If you do not have a safe place to lock or keep your bicycle I suggest you don't get too ex one first. I got mine stolen at a MRT station bicycle parking lot in broad daylight. West side.

You should be able to get one for around $60 in those neighbourhood bicycle shops. That's for a basic mountain bike. Might be even possible to get it cheaper if it's second hand.

If you want nicer ones but cannot bear to spend the money.... visit cash convertors. they have some good ones occasionally. But only if you know your bikes.

Don't be tempted by suspension and disk brakes. They will add cost but not much value in relation to your use. They also add complexity to maintenance and will tempt thieves.

bro, y not get a 2ndhand 150-250sgd bikes at togoparts?

my friend recently bought those cheap 90 sgd bike from carrefour, they feel much heavier. Not only that, the parts they use for the derailleur and shifter are not good, therefore changing gears can be a pain in the arse. And in the end, they regretted buying the bike and wanted to sell it for a decent 2ndhand bikes after they test ride mine

cheers =)

Make sure you size yourself for the bicycle. A buying a bicycle is like buying pants. There isn't really a free size. The tolerance for difference between perfect and useable differs from one usage to another; some usages are less forgiving and injuries are more likely to occur than others (racing sports, to commuting, to leisure, to riding to the market to pick up a few groceries, to using it for your work (eg. delivery).

Start by measuring your inseam length (Stand-over height - SOH). I'll come back with a recommendation for reference soon.

Ah! Found, here's an excellent book from Grant Peterson: Just Ride. This is a review, which was, I thought, quite good. The book is full of great tips for cycling. Written amidst books that are majorly written for sporting. This provides a viewpoint for a non-sport cyclist but a practical cyclist. Not many books like it.

It's cheap book that's worth buying. Lots of great tips for surviving, and enjoying cycling.

All the best!
