Hey Peoples.

 

I would like to ask for help/advise regarding on upgrading my CPU.

 

Problem :

- Couldnt/LAG in playing new games.

- Getting Slower and Laggy.

 

Question:

- Can I Upgrade My CPU (Processor, graphic card etc) W/O buying new CPU?

- Can Any One Advise me more on the pricing range to upgrade to the minimum requirement.

- No Need Tooooo Advance, As Long UP TO DATE and AFFORDABLE PRICE. x )

Model : Compaq Presario SR1972CF

Processor: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 3.40GHz

RAM : 2GB

OS : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

Graphics : GeForce 7600 GS

HDD : 250GB

getting slower is part n parcel of every OS. best u can is reformat. if still dont get back to ur previous performance, then consider upgrade.

 

usually the thing to upgrade is ram, cpu is ex, unless u can find 2nd hand, then again, ur board is quite old, so dont think/hard to find new ones too. there's a limit of cpu u can upgrade depend on ur board. hdd is also another culprit. ur graphics looks fine unless u're playing those newer games that require intensive graphic power.

 

ur computer is quite old as compared to nowaday's tech, so unless u're drooling on the newer games, it's still sufficient for office apps.

Hey guys

 

I have an urgent problem. I bought a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and PSU. The rest of the other parts are upgraded. To cut the long story short, i cannot even POST after i built the PC. I get 1 long, 3 short beeps, indicating a video error. I've tried 2 different graphics cards, a GTX460 and a 8500gt. Basically, i cannot get both of them to work or POST on my new rig and get the 1 long, 3 short beeps. I did manage to get only the 8500gt to work, but only 5% of the time. It had to be slightly slanted in the slot, with one part of the teeth fully inserted into the pci-e slow and another part to be slightly jutting out. Both the cards and proven and tested to work.

 

The specs are listed below:

*CPU: Intel i5 2500k

*Mobo: Asus P8P67

*RAM: 8GB G-Skill RipJawX 1600MHz CL9 (4GB x 2)

HDD: Segate 500GB SATA2

*PSU: Andyson 650W F650 80 Plus

GFX: ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI/1GD5

 

Note that those marked with an '*" are new. The rest are old but in complete working condition. I suspect the motherboard is faulty. Perhaps the pci-e slot? Need urgent help. Thanks.

Solved!

 

The mobo was faulty. Went to change a new one and now it works fine. i5 is BLAZING fast haha.

Thanks! Man this i5 2500k is super fast. Too bad when i was testing the second mobo, i got so pissed that i used the stock cooler and build up the whole rig again to test. Now, i am filled with regret because my Coolermaster Hyper 212+ is sitting in the box, doing nothing. I don't want to open up the whole thing again just to put the cooler back on! Argh.

I don't think so... overclocking a PC is like those SP KRR rider who want to "overclock" their bike to make it as fast as a class 2 then piston piang.

You cannot answer this question with just 2 sentences my friend. You need to write a short essay to explain it. I have no time for that right now but let me put it to you in a short answers.

 

PCs nowadays, are what i call it, underclocked, even though they are not. Let'e take for example, my Intel i5 2500k. Stock speed is 3.3Ghz. It can be clocked up to 4.8Ghz with the right settings. For me, since i am using a stock cooler, i just did a baby overclock to 3.8Ghz, all the other settings are all on auto except for changing my multiplier. In other words, you get a PC which can safely run on much higher clock speeds than they are out of the box. In motorbike terms, its like, the ECU of a bike has been programmed for it to hit only 110km/h. But you just access your ECU and put the appropriate settings so that you can hit 190km/h. The computer will do everything else. Above 190km/h, you got to do up your own settings IN THE ECU like fuel/air mix, voltages, pump flow rate, etc.

 

This is much easier as compared in the past where motherboard's BIOS were rather primitive. With the advent of UEFI, the computer does everything, making it so noob that overclocking can be done by even the most noobiest out there who can follow instructions.

 

So my point being is that, for the average user, who doesnt do anything else and is happy with how the PC performs, it is not needed. But for the average user who has a slow or ageing PC, or wish to make sure that he can run programs faster in the future, do it.

 

Its like, you do it also no problem, you don't do it also no problem. You have to define 'average user' here because it can refer to many different types of users.

I was told to leave C1E on. The CPU will know when to increase the multiplier if it needs to. Saves electricity and reduces heat i guess?

For myself, i prefer to keep both enabled because i have tried to disable them before and my average temps were much higher than keeping them enabled. Moreover, most of the time, like now, day to day stuff, my clocks are automatically lowered. Unless i start a game or open alot of apps, then it would automatically step the speed up.

 

Electricity yes, negligible for me. But temps? No way. Running on my stock cooler for my E6600 now @2000Mhz, multiplier 6x, FSB 333 gives me about 56C, but with C1E and speedstep disabled, i get an average of 70C @3000Mhz, C1E keeping my multiplier at 9x. Even before with my CM Hyper 212+, the temp increase was obvious.

Dude. If no thermal compound the thing will auto shut off by itself lol. Of course put la! Its like you ride bike never put engine oil.

 

You talking about which intel CPUs? I was referrring to the Core 2 series. They run much hotter than the i series. Much, much hotter.

u got the wrong ideal.......running at full clock speed doesn't not get the system or cpu hot, only when use 100% cpu power then it will be hot.

it's like u buy a 1000cc bike, got power but restricted n power cut it.

Then explain to me why my both my Intel rigs, one C2D and one i5, when they have C1E and speedstep disabled, their CPU temps are noticeably higher than them enabled, at a CPU load of 25%, at stock clock settings?
