Got a question to ask fellow bikers.

What happens if i don't scrap my bike after COE expires, will there be any letter sent to me? What about if I just leave the bike as it is?

And if the COE expires while the bike is in Malaysia?

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

court would issue you summon on behalf of singapore vehicles license department, within one month after coe expire, the singapore VLD has to receive a confirmation by one of the authorised scrap yard in singapore a confirmation that vehicle main frame and engine has been retained by them..or..hor hor..fine 1k above plus max 6 months jail..offence committed, keeping a automatically de-registered vehicle, plus failure to scrap vehicle within 1 month after coe expiry, to be exact 30 days..

but what if i am foreigner? my friend has the bike in malaysia. and it's expiring soon. he might just wanna keep it in malaysia. registered under his name and work permit.

i dont know much about this matter.. however i was thinking why don't he just report loss of vehicle? then will he still need to scrap his vehicle when COE expires? it should be no right? o_O

anyway, if you manage to get a bike under your name, so long bike coe is not renewed one month before, bike has to be scrapped in a month..no leniency..report, loss, remember to blur the chasis number and engine number, remove plate..you won't want to be caught within a stolen vehicle though it is "yours"..and also, once your bike is no longer under the coe covered period, please do not use it to cross tolls that requires payment or customs..you would be pointed with something long and black and key being pulled out, escorted for coffee that taste like some thick kopi-o..so, conclusion..you know what you wanna do with the bike and some of us also know..why not you get a MY kup? a new one is dirt cheap compared to sg..your road tax is only 2RM..

i think that would depends on whether the bike is 'lost' in malaysia or SG. however according to the first post, it seems like it would be the former.

yea..and TS is up to something i've thought of before..but doing it in sg with a my bike..then i realised..that time i was just too immature..unlicensed..and i thought everything would be fine..luckily, i didn't did what i planned..or...disaster with the law..

i would think you have to keep the bike in malaysia forever once coe is over. the bike can never come back through customs anymore.

cause since the coe expires when the bike is in malaysia, there is no way for the owner to receive the letter informing him to renew COE if he/she moves back to malaysia, unless malaysian address given.

can a foreigner even own a sg registered bike without any work permit, student pass etc?

LTA requires that the bike be scrapped.

Or its imported out.

Either way there will be paperwork.

You can declare stolen, but LTA will still need paperwork by way of Msian police report.

However the engine/chassis number will be in Msian police system. If that bike ever gets stopped ...

Not sure what you mean by "lost".

Are u assuming LTA will take your word its lost without any form of paperwork.

LTA is a bureaucratic redtape mess - nothing gets done without a piece of paper.

hmm...interesting.

what if the owner chooses to export to malaysia when coe is up.

then again, you cannot export bike out as complete? has to be stripped down as parts.

Bike can be exported when COE expires, but its abit expensive, unless the bike has a good value, and gets registered in Msia, met a ex-sporean who chose to become a resident in Msia, thus he went thru the export procedures. If not wrong there are not many companies doing this in Msia.

Since there is a demand in Vintage vespa in Msia, thus theres a person i know who specially does the export paper work for Spore Vespa to be reg in Msia.

once coe is expiring, can start to prepare documents for inporting into malaysia. i am not sure how to do this. maybe @ah786786 can give more details. but probably will be expensive.

anyway, base line, it's an offence to keep or posses a vehicle with expired coe..it must and has to be scrapped..you won't want a court ****..export it 2 months before hand..search up shops doing parallel import, most prob they do export too..

Talking about expired coe and scrapping. In many countries, if you wish to scrap the vehicles, you get the value for the metal and others of that car. Here, we dont get anything. Especailly cars. what value they place on the windshield, steering, engine, wheels . ten years coe over must scrap. scrap owner laughing to the bank. certain vehiicles got parf value but many dont.
