Am I Still Able to Take a Bike License ?

I would like to check whether I still can take a bike license in Singapore when I'm BLIND in my LEFT EYE ?

I've seen a specialist at Singapore Eye Centre, The specialist told me that they can't do anything about this.

So I guess there's no way to cure it already. What letter you mean ?

Let's say, this is your first licence. They will make you put your eyes in some silly machine and show you 3 colours. Green, red and yellow. Then they will tell you, what colour do you see. Then they will block your left eye, right eye and ask you to see the colour.

 

The thing is that, lets say you have other licences already, or in my case, i was already taking my class 2B when i sign up for my class 3, they didnt bother to put me through the machine again because it is assumed that i can see the colours. Which is a good thing.

 

I would like to highlight a concern of mine. Frankly speaking, a normal person would have trouble if he is blind in one eye as you need 2 eyes to gauge distance accurately. When you use two eyes, it will make the image more '3D' and your mind can then calculate the distance and angle where the two images of the object meet so that you can judge the distance more accurately. But i'm sure you know this already when the doctor informed you of your condition.

 

Having said this, i had an old friend who was virtually blind in one eye due to glaucoma. But he had this condition after he got his licenses. While riding his bike, he had to check his mirrors every 3-5 second because he is unable to see anything on his right side. Whenever i walk on his right, he will not know i am there. I hope you do get your licence but i am sure you will make the right decision for the safety of yours and others.

@crazydj, Thanks for the information bro. I haven't get any license, so hopefully my doctor will write a letter saying I'm fit for riding/driving.

Losing an eye means you have lost your depth perception.

Best is to go down to e driving centre n talk to them.. They may provide u with an answer bro.. Go to all e centres to satisfy ur findings.. Can also go down to TP to check... Hope you will get a favourable answer to ur queries..

Well, I was involved in a traffic accident 2 years ago, near Geylang there, I was crossing the road, and one sporty car banged me.

And I flew up and land with my face first, so due to the heavy impact, My left eye went blind.

 

Unlikely they'll allow you to go for the license.

Losing an eye means you have lost your depth perception.

Thats vital for riding/driving.

Go to the centre , and go for the challenge, I would strongly encourage you to try.

 

I read thru the traffic law , Legally there's nothing to stop you from proving that you can ride thru taking the test and training to the centre, but you have to overcome the sever challenges you face as a cyclop, the blind spots.

 

Seek the advice from SSDC and get a medical certification that you are fit to ride.

 

Go for it! and don't let the dream die. and most important , don't kill anyone else except yourself.

that time i injured my eye, but i still ride wif one of my eye covered.. really have prob riding..requires to turn my head to the position of my injured eye as my angle view reduces... lanes splitting bcoms an issue that time... all the best bro

i have colour vision problem can't different shape the colour well by doing the colour test. i did tyco pass the test when i took 2B, there was a question about the colour and i answer it wrong at 1st then i quickly answer it correct 2nd time and i gave an execuse that i didn't have rest well last night haha. until now i already have class 2. Just only afraid that when i enroll class 3, will they ask me do colour test again? T.T
