you might want to try searching in youtube and compare the ticking sounds

this is 1 of the many example

Thax loufu for the invaluable video/sound link. I've never heard this from any of my bikes before. Phew.

In this case , like one of the comments made, it is highly likely to be cam chain slap due to the tensioner problem. Its probably an easy DIY fix.

Good thing my 5th genner don't have these darn things. Haha

@ Gurd - Imho, unless u know who is e previous owner of e bike else its gonna b a guessing game of wat went wrong n wat need to b done... I've been in ur position b4 n its so frustrating especially when after getting so many opinions, u r left to choose which is e 1 feasible n its a risk u gonna take coz if after doing dat particular portion n spending $$ n u found out e "problem" still there, its only mean 1 thing - u gonna spend more $$...

If u plan to ride ur bike across e border then u have to spend $$ to have ur bike fully chck n service coz u dun wanna b left stranded by e nsh awaiting for towing crew... E amount u gonna spend might cost a bomb but it will u with a peace of mind.. But again u might wanna ask urself whether u gonna kp e bike for long to spend alot of $$ on e bike...

If juz for sg use then juz use it until it breaksdwn at least its cheap to tow within sg :)

Btw im not riding vfr but i believe e above info works for all types of bikes... Hope u gonna get ur peace of mind n enjoy ur ride bro...

Hi Loufu. Thanks so much for the vid link! Btw, that's not the sound I'm hearing. It's really much softer but almost constant. The sound in the vid is literally a loud ticking sound and its off and on. The sound I'm hearing is much softer but almost constant though. Thanks for the link anyway!

Change the auto Cct and monitor the sound. If still persist need to change the timing chain. V engine have 2 chain so expect to pay more

Thanks for the reply JoviLoong. But what is CCT? hahaha, sorry I'm a little out of touch with the lingos. Btw, if I was to do the TOP servicing, would it stop the sound and basically be safe enough to ride over the border and back??

Hi Wanfazer. Thank you for the reply bro! Well concerning the dough, I don't mind spending, but just don't want to be ripped off by the motorshops. And I'm thinking of prob keeping the bike for some time, so I don't really mind spending. Just hoping to not get cut neck and worst still, having a bad job done. Any shops to rec?? Thanks!

I was told that its e sound of e "irregular valve" especially during cold start n after riding for a while e valve stabilizes thus no more sound :) ...
