Good day fellow cruisers!

I never regretted starting on my first Dragstar 125cc back in 2001, even tho I had to pay $6K+ for it a 2nd hand, 1.5yr old machine, when brand new Phantoms were going at $5.5K OTR.

Last year I upgraded from 125cc to 400 cc Dragstar. I am certainly enjoyin the power and the better stability, but FC is down to 25K/l. It used to be 35-40K/l.

Now, I am thinking about upgrading to 1100cc Dragstar. Wonder what is e FC? I think its bigger width and length wise, so it should be more stable also.. right? How about road tax and insurance? Roughly how much? Help me out please.

Great day for riding, RIDE ON!

Hi man. Oh yeah, 1100CC. It is good. Smooth and torque. Easy to maintain too.

Hi Bro,

yeah fuel consumption is definately higher than the 400CC Classic which I used to ride. But power wise, this is very much more powerful than the 400CC plus lots of new enhancement. Most of the hoses I notice was changed from rubber to steel. The ride wise, I think it is about the same length as the 400CC classic but wiidth is a bit wider. I notice the seat is a bit higher than the 400 too so I dun hit the hump as much as the 400CC.

Fuel consumption I am still in the process of calculating. Stay tune and I will update you on it.

Road tax I think is about $300+ and insurance for my age is $530 from NTUC.

Yes, I was a proud owner of 1. I heard there were only 4 that were imported.

Mine was sold to a colleague and he is now the proud owner :) :bounce:

Weeelll.... I rode that bike up Genting! It went 130km on the highway, not full throttle, but quite alot of vibes, so I usually do 120km max. There are some suspicion that the speedo is not accurate for Phantoms. ... so I dont really know if it was really 130kmh ... BTW, I went up alone. I think if pillon will be slower, but will still make it.

The V twin really makes a smoother ride even in low cc engine. My bike before this was a really bad kawasaki chopper that struggled to get 100kmh and absolutely vibrated!

But the 125cc is really not powerful enuf to pillon and to climb slope at same time, so on long uphill speed usually drop to around 80 -100. SG road is not hilly, but in MY, many times quite difficult to maintain. Its just that feeling you get when speed start to fall, but car and trucks behind coming closer... its a lousy feeling to watch them pass.

So, anyway, upgraded to 400cc. It does everything I need. Quite contented, but cant help thinking about 1100cc.....

Toast to all ya Dragstar riders! Great choice!

Happy holidays!

NightHawk, any verdict on the FC? BTW, did you feel that the power you gained by upgrading was worth the extra monies that u had to pay for. Cost to change bike, mods, higher tax and ins and fuel cost?

Hi,

So far my fuel consumption on regular road which I went very very slowly was around one Litre 14+km. This might not be reflective of actual riding as I was going very slow and trying to handle the power of the bike. Perhaps once I manage to complete a full tank of it, then I will know for sure how good is the FC.

I cannot really comment about the real power at the upper end since I have not rode into Malaysia before. However, the lower end power is definately way more powerful than the 400CC. And of course, a little turn of the throttle, I can feel the torque coming into the bike.

Generally the bike change cost me 11K with quite a fair bit of accessories included and a milage of only 7000km on the metre. The tax and Insurance is pretty ok for my age. I paid about coming $600 without NCD and Road Tax if I remembered correctly is about $300 odd per year.

Thanks.

14km/l! Thats is quite discouraging. Well, I am going to hold on to my 3yr old 400cc for quite some time.... I think.

Tho, moving up will always be a temptation, cos the DS are just so great to ride!

oh. Well, I think 14km/L should be ok since I am only riding around with a lot of traffic. So far never ride expressway since I am still familiarising myself to the bike. And so far I only rode it 2times as it is a weekend bike for me.

Any pic of ur bike??? love the big cc......

Hi Adriel,

So far no pictures taken yet. I will try to take a picture of it soon. I think this bike serve my purpose well and it is by far one of the cheapest big CC bike to maintain.

1. Air Cool

2 2 x Spark Plugs

3. 3 bottle of engine oil

4. Shaft driven

Some of these consideration attracted me to a DS. Cheers.....

Riding on expressways like NSH will yield more mileage for you... For me, when you can ride such a big cruiser, maintenance and fuel consumption is rather a small consideration.. I would buy the bike because I personally like the bike and it has good ride quality. Individual personal views on this one... but If I were really concerned about fuel consumption or maintenance cost, then I'd ride a kup or something smaller.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers :cheer:
