Yes.

If you have gone already gone through the gantry, good luck. Wait for letter.

If you are thinking of riding without valid road tax and insurance, don't. Else please do everyone a favour and go through an active gantry.

Yes. If No Road Tax = fine. No Insurance + No Road Tax License Revoked + Court. Even a non working gantry. Even carpark gantry. Any thing that scans your IU.

These carpark gantries and ERP gantries detect everything.

It only depends if they bother to track you down.

Its a digital world.

i think some are forgetting how the system actually works.

your IU unit is 'unique' to your vehicle. any gantry, whether carpark or erp, will capture the serial number of your IU. it is then a simple matter of cross-referencing this serial number with LTA's database of all vehicles. and this database contains all the details of your vehicle, including road tax and insurance.

hence, if a computer query is made by any gantry to this database for a particular IU, and the computer finds out that the IU belongs to a vehicle where the records show the tax or insurance is expired, the system immediately red flags the IU and by extension the vehicle itself. thats how the system 'detects' your expired tax or insurance.

and if a vehicle enters the gantry without an IU, or a faulty IU, then the cameras go off capturing the number plate. so again the system will know the vehicle that passes under it.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Very serious offense.

I am awaiting the world would be like that story of Kurt Russell Escape to LA where at the end of the movie he pressed a button and the whole world electronic devices were deactivated and no chance of starting over again new devices and the world went back into the middle ages scenario.

road tax a bit different from insurance. if your road tax expired and bike is not laid up, you incur late payment fee whether or not you ride the bike. riding it does not increase the penalty, only how late you pay increases the penalty.

insurance on the other hand, is only applicable if the bike is ridden. no insurance but the bike is kept in carpark, no offence is made. ride it, and its a big penalty. dats why you ride past gantry without insurance, hello court....
