its not the insurance that is the problem. the law does not allow a foreigner to operate a singapore registered bike without a singapore licence. the only exception is malaysians on malaysian-registered bikes.

which then means, why not your fren find out how to import the bike into malaysia and have it registered as a malaysian bike? once it has a malaysian number plate, he wont have a prob riding it in malaysia or singapore with his malaysian licence. i believe on your side you only need to de-register the bike from singapore.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

i called LTA.....actually they dun care who is the owner..... as long as there is insurance cover........thats from the LTA's mouth.....problem is insurance requires new owner (non Singaproean) to have at least international lic......thus the hassle.

i clarify first that watever i say is only my understanding of the issue, and whoever has more accurate info is welcome to correct me.

as i understand it, all foreigners who want to ride in singapore must convert their licence. thats why we see expats taking lessons at driving centers. are malaysians exempt from this rule? coz all i know is if you're a malaysian riding a malaysian registered bike, or malaysian driving malaysian car, then you can enter and ride/drive without any need for licence conversion.

and 'owner' and 'rider' are two separate entities, even if they are the same person. anybody, even if foreigners or even locals without licence, can own a singapore-registered vehicle. but this does not mean they can legally operate the vehicle. that was the point i was trying to raise: i believe he cannot operate the bike (even if he legally owns it) unless he converts his licence. and since he cannot legally operate the vehicle, insurers cannot insure him.

Only foreigners with International license can drive SG vehicles. Malaysia license holder can't drive SG vehicles, must convert & give up their Malaysia license

The conversion of foreign license is very simple pay 11$ appear for the BTT, score 45 out of 50, pay 50$ and you get the license, thats how I got it

If your friend doesnt have time to do this basic stuff then he has to forget about riding in Singapore.

class 2 is on a case by case basis.

if can show proof that you own class 2 bike for some years before coversion, it can be done.

my boss was a brit and he managed to get class 2 straight away with just BTT.

in any case, your friend has to convert his license to sg before he can insure......how he does it via legal/illegal means is his choice liao.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)
