An uncle riding an automatic scooter Adiva-150cc went to this bike shop 'CHU SENG ENTERPRISE' at 331 Changi Road (beside/after SPC petrol station) to change rear brake PAD. Then the shop told him to replace the rear brake disc as well since they claim that its worn out too. After all was done, the bike shop charged him $390 in total... wtf

Below is the breakdown from the cash sale receipt:

Brake pad: $45

Disc plate: $280

Labor charge: $65

In yr honest opinion, is the cost reasonable for two items pad & disc?

Brake pad was the normal type, NOT the Brembo or Braking type of brand, brake disc was NOT the high performance flowery zig-zaggy type of brand either. Labour charge $65 for only 2 items changed I leave it to you to help me comment..

2 weeks later, the rear brake has no compression when applied therefore NO REAR BRAKE BRAKING and the uncle almost collide into an accident.

why nvr ask the price before u let them do??

The uncle did not knew the price range for the parts.

They only told him that the disc was quite expensive costing above $200++.

After all was done, they charged him $390 without receipt.

When the brake failed almost collided into accident, went back there again n asked for the breakdown receipt and was shocked to see the charges! Dissapointed to see how these bike shops do ridiculous bussiness just to earn more money from old folks. But damnit, this is BRAKE matters for god sake! They yet charged super expensive for the labour but the service is bullshit causing the old man to a near accident! Sad truth indeed.

labour still alrite, it's the disc that's frightening!

is it OE disc or AM disc? if it's OE, call up the local distributor to check it out.

dun mean to dispute anything from threadstarter, but scooters' parts can be ex coz alot of scooters are from Italy. even some jap bike parts can be rather ex. i remember last time MBX head fairing cost about $300 original (not a scooter, but just for example).

but after charging so much and brake fail simply means something is wrong. maybe they never change brake pad or give old stuff or fix wrongly.

i share the same sentiment that after spending so much things fail, it gets to your nerves.

I would advise the threadstarter to be extra careful in listing the shop's name here.

As for the old pakcik, should go back to the shop to try to get the brakes fixed with some sort of compensation.

is it raining when the uncle found out that the brakes are not workin well? if answer is yes, there you go. braking isnt so sensitive when comes to rainy weather and when the road is wet.. if not i suggest you go back to the shop and KPKB about it. :D

it was not raining.

the brakes have no compression meaning u pull the lever effortlessly even with one finger it touches the handlebar grip already, meaning that the brake was OUT.

already assist the uncle to the bike shop but no compensation given. yet the bike shop still say the price he charged was already reasonable enough.

I don't think it will do any harm if threadstarter mentions the company name while only stating facts about the case. Let us bikers not be bullied into refraining from sharing our experiences by rogue bikeshops who are lawyer-happy.

The threadstarter doesnt have to say "this shop lousy" or "that shop f*cked up". Just state where he went to and the facts or events. Bikers reading the thread would be able to get the idea and gauge for themselves whether the bikeshop in question can make it or not.

In this way, information is passed around and yet threadstarter will not get into any trouble. Hope this helps.

Feel free to comment ya guys.

Cheers.

what one of the poster said is true . Some skipper / scooter components is really expensive. The scooter brake disc might be small than other bikes but the price could be more expensive than some other bikes .

However i still think that the brake pad and the brake disc which the shop charged him is too expensive . Did they charge him for other parts beside these 2 items?

Nizam,

didnt know you to be here. Anyway the labour charge are way too expensive for that kind of job. Unless it requires welding or hard work, a simple installation of unscrew and screw shouldnt cost that much. Thank god we have a forum here to share our story.

just wondering, you mentioned the rear brake was changed and nothing happened when you pull the lever with your finger.

unless his bike's rear brake is not the lever by the right feet, then maybe the uncle's front brake is worn too??

Japanese oem scooter brake pads are expensive eg. my suzuki burgman 400 brake pads cost around $78 when I changed it.

Heard that the brake disk would cost around $350 if you want to change it .

Btw the suzuki agent workshop charge around $25 to change the front brake pads. The rear brake pads changing would be more expensive as it involved more work such as removing the exhaust pipe etc.

Hope this give you a rough guide on the cost of changing the parts by the agent workshop.

$390 is far too much...

Just changed my 900cc bike brake disc, brake pads, brake fluid.

Yamaha front Brake disc $150 ea, $130 for rear disc.

EBC HH brake pads $50 each set.

Motul RBF 600 brake fluid $15.
