Getting 2A License in CDC on year 2021 - after 13 years of riding 2B

Hi All,

I'm sure those old birds will have already know that most bikes now have a expired date. Since mine was a Kawasaki Kips which I ridden for 13 years (originally intended to continue riding/renew COE and pass it to my son) but sadly.. since there's a expire date which I check at one motoring. I decided to look for other bikes. All 2B bikes are 4 strokes, and asking a few of them, max cap is 110-120, (the riders weighted about 80kg without any additional baggage). They also did mentioned if they pillion anyone.. they will be struggling at 100 or even lower.

My kawasaki kips currently has a top box, saddle bags and 2 side "rocket launcher". If I export these accessories over.. I believe my 2B will be max 90 or even 80 if I pillion.. (no way that's gonna happen). So, let get a 2A! But but, I'm almost 40.. and ride 2B for 13 years liaoz lei.. a bit pointless right? 

I dragged this for at least 2 years already until I say, cannot drag anymore, my bike REALLY leaving me soon since the expire date is getting nearer.. So I went on to CDC website and just click click and make payment. LOLOL.

 

Initial amount $90.95 (1-Year Membership)

Refundable deposit $10.00

 

Session 1 to 4	$31.03	No Training
Session 5 to 7	$34.24	No Training

Total lesson is 1 orientation + 3 Lessons + at least 2 revision. (1 for assessments and 1 for Traffic police)  $205.44 for the minimum

 

 

Simulator Training

$26.54 per Session

A total of 3 lesson is required for Simulator before you can book your TP, so recommended to go for both lesson together. $79.62 in total

 

Practical Test Fee			$33.00
Test Vehicle and Warm-up Fee			$58.85
Total			$91.85

 

TP is another $91.85

90.95 + 10 + 205.44 + 79.62 + 91.85

Total damage about 477.86 if you already own a helmet and protection gears. & 1 time pass for all subjects. Usually if you are not riding on a daily basis, set each session for 2 times just in case. 

 

Worse case scenarios - set another 91.85 + 34.24.

Orientation (Oct 2020)

- Course Introduction

- Handling of motorcycles

- Traffic rules

- Practical riding

 

Pract 1  (Oct 2020)

- General riding - blindspot, safe following, lane change, lane discipline 

- Observance of traffic rules - traffic signs, road marking, passing intersection, yellow box, pedestrian crossing

- Slope 

- Narrow Plank/ Pylon Slalom

 

Pract 2 (Nov 2020)

- Hazard course of figure 8/ crack crouse

-E-Brake

-Bumpy course

 

1 Revision for me. ( to know the route and feel which "course" I need to be more careful)

Pract 3 (Assessments) (Nov 2020)

 

1 more revision before test date because the date is too far from my last lesson. (I went figure 8 crazy cuz I got points on figure 8 for being too slow) 

 

Traffic police test (Feb 2021)

 

 

Lastly, I did pass all on first attempts. Thanked goodness for that! The waiting time is very long for the session and the traffic police test dates.

congrats on your new quest.. this is going to be great experience, I can still remember my thrill when getting on the CB400 at SSDC more than 10 years ago... the 750cc didnt have the same kick as from 2B to 2A.

I also on class 2A for the longest time before moving on the class 2.... but must say you are one hell of a disciplined guy.. I didn't last more than 13months to move on the 400cc.

Good luck for your 2A TP test! Once you get the 2A license you can go for Class 2 next!

Has the cost increased greatly since the time that you got your 2B license? Would be a good comparison to see how much the costs have risen since the past 5-10 years.

What Class 2A bike are you looking to get? The XMax seems like a popular choice.

Yeah.. I believe one of friend mentioned that he took the lesson all less then 300 if all 1 time pass, he quoted me 500 confirm got change.. 

based on what I recall, lesson used to be 16.xx (13 years ago)  and my friend was 2x.xx (5-7 years ago) but now. 3x.xx.. + 3 computer riding experience.

Last time really economical to take Cl 2b, 2a and 2.. moreover COE is low as well... remember my first brand new bike had a $1 as coe.. now everything also expensive.

Pls correct me if i am wrong. New to this also as i just purchased new bike. The gov should change the bidding rule. Only individual singpass login to bid, not thr seller. 

The coe is 7k now is because the shops have backlog n they r the 1 pushing the coe up.

@Pisces44 You would be correct.  It is just the way that the industry is.

Yeap the 3 simulation courses that are compulsory, for CDC as an example it would cost $26.54 per lesson, which means that even if everything else stays the same (which is not the case), there would be an extra of $26.54 X 3 = $79.62 added to the cost of a 2B/2A/2 license.

The TP simulation courses... biggest waste of money time and money imo. Graphics worse than gta3 on my old ps2. Controls very laggy also. Learned absolutely nothing. Worst thing is, (at least at BBDC) cannot book them all in a row to get the waste of time and money over with -- just like lessons, you have to complete one to book the next one. Insanity.

Yeah.. last time is a lot cheaper.. so bo bian la.. not within our control...

What to do? Not we bid ma.. then people wan to rush to take bikes, so the higher bidder the more chance they get lor..

yeah.. bad graphic. but slightly better compare to army back in the days. nvm ba.. for safety reasons.. old birds will know, newbies need it.. example, back in the days, we where got expressway course after pass one? After you gotten your license, first time go expressway, ride at 50-60 on left lane, feel so scare then go until shoulder lane.. haha..

actually there are a lot of solutions proposed previously on the high COE, individual bidder and not shop. Or COE must be cash outlay, cannot lump into Loan. That will stop some crazy bike shop or car dealer to put in ridiculous bid which burden down the buyer. 

Especially for the case of young bikers, many just want to push bike out and totally unaware of the high loan they are paying in coming months or years. That's why some look very sensational in their first 3 months of bike ownership, after which the fuel, the parking, summons, servicing, repair costs all come together, many will suffer.

CDC allows booking multiple simulator trainings at the same time, however the catch is that you cannot book back to back lessons. There has to be a minimum 1 lesson gap between each simulator session that you attend.

@Demues The food delivery industry is also causing this high COE trend, in the past motorcycles are used for leisure or travelling, but when you are able to make a decent living as a Grab/Deliveroo/FoodPanda rider, you'd be willing to pay more for the COE as well because everyday without working/owning a bike is a loss opportunity for income.

I guess we can only dream of the day when COE drops back down to $1.

Indeed, like what you mentioned most just wan to push bike out and willing to pay more but at the same time, the number of COE giving out has been reduced, thus the increases.

Yup, tried that and it's effective but again, I dun think the training simulator has much use for 2A and 2 riders. (feel like just taking our money nia) LOL..

Example, I saw a VERY VERY small tree brunch on the road, so I reduced my speed from 40-10 - failed to stop at obstruction objects.. Jia lat sia.. If every rider stops at small tree brunch, i think a lot of accident liaoz.. LOL

Yes, for any new line added to our driving license, it will be reduced back to 12 for 1 year.

1) No need put triangle la.. That's only for people who just pass their bike or car license.

2) Yes all impacted for points

3) But I heard there's a new ruling, bike license kanna >12 points, car not impacted. But Class 3/4/5 should be tagged together. I'm not sure how it works through. (saw it at one of the articles.) But again, dun think so much, just ride more defensively will do..

yeah no need to put P plate for 2A and 2. Unless its class 4 or 5 which is a new class. 

But yes... 12 points only. I couldn't believe my ears so I asked alot of people and even verified with the examiner there. So it is confirmed. Once you get your 2A or 2 you have 12 points only for a year. Very scary hahaha accidently go past 1 red light and its over

haha... still its super scary... I didn't upgrade to a higher CC bike back then just because i know confirm will accidently accelerate too much when overtaking some cars in the xpress way. vrooooom
