hahah for my plank i actually don’t adopt the half clutch method! i found that the full torque of gear 1 helps me balance on the plank along with slight throttle (abit unconventional from the usual method)

I have a cheat for plank which only works for class 2B... You will pass for sure... hahaha but if you can get the half clutch technique it would be better cause 2A and 2 needs like 8 and 10 seconds. So this cheat won't work...

Cheat code

1. Rev to 3-4000rpm.

2. Release clutch slowly.

3. Go up the plank, clutch in fully 🤣 Maintain rpm at higher than idle sound.

4. Use Rear break to slow the bike down a bit if you feel its fast.

5. usually this will get u through the plank at about 6+/- seconds... but when you get used to it. You can slow it down more and do the half clutch

possible..

Mine is,

Just rev till just nice (maybe 3k -4k) didn't really check, just feel the bike.. same concept, once up plank, clutch in fully, rear brake.

half clutch, clutch in, half clutch, clutch in.. Maintain.. turn the handlebar abit to maintain but could be difficult as once you turn too much might fall off also.. 😂

play can hor.. TP dun use my method.. TP just slowly roll over since only 1 time..

Mine CL2 required 10s.. =.='''

2A required 8s... (can slowly roll over) need a bit of rear brake if using Siphon's method..

CL2 need alot of brake.. (I remember when taking my 2A, easily pass 8s.) but CL2.. 50/50 sia.. =.=''

out of 5 times

1 - 9.xx seconds

2- 10.xx seconds

3- 9.xx seconds

4 - 11.xx seconds

5- fall off from plank =.='''

So I decided not to play too much., hahahaha,, 9,xx seconds only points,, better then fall offf plank..

Wah... I juz half clutch n hold it there sia..

Hold = confirm will pass also.. 2B is more like want you to know the basic concept.. 2A/2 is strengthening, force you beyond your limits.

Try this for class 2.

once up the plank, hold foot brake down till you feel it the effective braking and keep it there. Then use the halfclutch and throttle to move the bike meter by meter. 🙊🙊🙊 I lasted on the plank more than 30 seconds with this method. Don’t need to swerve just go straight.

Plank when using rear brake you actually maintain the balance better. Never ever use front brake as you know it just jerks the bike and you lose balance. Same for figure 8, I literally have the rear brake on for 80% of the time. Only on the short “straight” cross over I release. Once in the curve the my throttle is maintained at the same and I use rear brake to moderate the speed. That way you have way more control on the speed.

BBDC also says this.. they don't want to see us brake when turning. i'm not sure if they make a distinction between front and rear brakes.

because S4 is heavy...for my CL2A, once i go up the plank, i just clutch in & let it roll all the way, with abit of rear brake if necessary. I wonder if I can do the same for NC750 when i go for CL2

i cork up my narrow plank training a few days ago. on CB500X. 10sec target

in my defense, i was distracted by:

1) instructors standing just beside the plank waving their arms and giving instructions as we were on plank

2) their set up is 3 narrow planks side-by-side, running concurrently, so it's easy to get distracted by riders/bikes adjacent to you

3) immediately after the plank ends, it's a wall, so need a 90deg turn to exit. So while u look ahead, there are bikes moving from L to R where the plank ends

same as when i was in BBDC last year - i do better when there's no one standing just beside the plank talking to me LOL. Works for TP test but tough during lessons and RC.

waaa.. 3 plank concurrently.. no wonder so fast.. my 100 min, I can only go up plank about 5 times.. most of the time at cdc, I'm only holding to my clutch and brake.. LOL..

The Test....

yes... today, just after the CNY holidays.

Got up really early this morning before the alarm at 5am given that yours truly stays in the east and this, being a work day, was worried that traffic would be heavy. Furthermore, this has been the wettest CNY since 2016 and had a RC yesterday which was in wet conditions. In fact, the gloves were still wet this morning.

Had 3 cups of coffee and packed up my gear and headed out at 6:30am. Traffic was thankfully manageable even though it was raining and on a week day. Reached BBDC and it was raining all the way. Walked into the premises and waited for the instructors to call the candidates in... we had to give them our IC and show the PDL for registration. Next was assigned a number. Mine has definitely a single digit as one of the instructors said, I was an "elderly" in mandarin :D Whilst I was queuing, realized that I didn't bring my soggy gloves with me! Arggghhhhhh!!! Left the helmet at where my number tag lay and then made the way back to the MCP to get my trusty soggy gloves....

Did a little jog to have sweat building in my raincoat (thankfully, it's my own gear) and was thoroughly soaked.

Reached the waiting area and grabbed my gear wearing the helmet. Saw bikes lined up and was told that it was the "warm up" session. Was told to wait while the first batch (not according to number) went first.
Waited for the first batch to come back and then managed to warm up doing the whole circuit route.

When that was done, we were told to park the bikes and then move in the holding area. Was briefed again on the circuit test route and told what to watch out for, from the pedestrian crossing just after the start point to areas to watch out for.  4 areas to wait for the testers to flag us off; 1) start point 2) s-course 3) plank 4) e-brake.

We had to gather outside to read our name, and ID numbers to verify our identities to the testers.

When it was time to go, some of the numbers were told to form groups, for example, my group was from 1 -10. Next was told to go the bikes and sit on it to await the flag off.

First bike went off, followed by the second and so on... What could be said that, it was nerve wracking .... no matter how much one prepares for this day... it sure hits the nerves and the actual test itself is actually short. The main pain is the wait of the results... So, felt that the first stretch was okay..... but when stopping going up the slope felt the stop wasn't steady (it was clocked as a wobble later) and then proceeded to the S-course and crank course... had to stop at the end of the S-course as there was a car that was turning in.... so had to make a turn into the starting of the crank course... not the most fun turn... but okay, might have clocked the second "wobble" of the day. Got through the crank course and then headed towards the right turn and plank...

Got onto the plank and made it ok and then proceeded to the slalom... finished both conservatively and headed to the e-brake.. Got signaled to move and executed the maneuver... some question marks remained as tend to use the rear brakes hard.. this time.. used the front brakes harder.. but still mentally wasn't sure if it was ok (later found out.. not too okay)

Got back to the end point and had to pass the bike to the next candidate.

Was advised by the instructor waiting to wait inside as the first stage of the circuit results would take an hour or so .... was he correct!

So, the wait was pretty painful... and my phone was in my inner pocket.. so didn't want to fiddle and get it out... but rather wait... looking aimlessly at the counter in front of me in the waiting area.... after about an hour... an instructor came out to read out the numbers.... some were read out and was relief to know that managed to stay... next was the road stage..

Once the road stage was confirmed.. The single digits went first and again, the class were briefed on what to look out for... pedestrian crossings seem to be a minefield to candidates.

Was lead out to sit on the bikes and made a round of the circuit before heading out to the road. This time, it was all alone, unguided riding. Road in the wet weather and thankfully, not many pedestrians... completed the route and then.... the wait........ was told to go to a different area after about 20 minutes... headed to the canteen for more coffee and then the wait began....

Went up to the stipulated waiting room and then .... the wait began....

.... after a while... 2 numbers were called... .and they left... next the instructor made the candidates do a count-off to see how many there were... and after the thirty-fifth one finished, he said "Thirty-five passed".

There was elation in the room and mine was more of relief..... given some briefing... and told that EFR could be taken... the ironic thing was that most class 3 holders who could have gotten the earlier slot could have validate the 2B on the same day.. but the bunch of class 3 holders (majority) could only do the second session which meant... validation could be done another day.

Next it would be the EFR shortly.. after this is written...

A new chapter begins as I head towards the end of the paddock and the beginning of more learning...

Absolutely! Really relieved more than anything else. Will ride slowly... will probably rent a bike first to try near distance and then see how I progress, will be out of the country later this week... so can only endorse the EFT / class 3 the fortnight later due to travels... I won't take leave just to endorse the 2B... I'll wait when I'm back in town...  Took the 3pm slot, so when it was over... it was too late to have the license endorsed. Flying off and then back later..

... this 2B has absolutely been a journey...... I've omitted some RCs and one RR that was taken prior to today. Went quiet as was focusing on this... :)

:)

well done!

Although i must say i wasn't surprised that you passed on your first try, given the amount of time and energy you put into going for classes and RC/RV. A thoroughly well-deserved milestone checked off.

on braking, in the straights it's usually more emphasis on front brakes due to weight transfer during braking, especially if the bike doesn't have ABS and it's in slippery conditions. Its the same for cars - brake force is biased towards the front. Opposite of bicycle LOL.

In the corners, i sometimes feather the rear although in my recent rides in the mountains, i had to lean heavily on the rears (in conjunction with engine brake) in steep downslope hairpins.

and i must admit... i stalled my bike once last week... going up a narrow cement steep slope with sand on the upper part of the slope leading into a hairpin turn. i was simply too nervous abt the sand + hairpin that i forgot to go into gear 1. Gear 2 tak cukup kuat for that steep slope. Bike was sliding backwards on the sand and i thought "siao liao" then i remembered to release the clutch (in gear) and the bike held... heng ah. Caught my breath, used the clutch as a brake to slowly roll the bike back down the slope and go up again in gear 1. Lesson learnt lol.

time to get that bike you have been eyeing.

u want it

u need it
