i think the issue is BBDC requires student riders to wear long sleeve shirt and long pants during the session. And he was only wearing short sleeve t-shirt and short pants under his rain gear 😅

so if he removed his rain gear, he wouldn't be able to join the session.

ahhhh... no wonder... long sleeve shirt..

CDC just make sure you wear protective gears.. and jeans/cover shoes..

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Wah? Ssdc by right needs to wear long sleeves but if u got wear full guards, the instructor dun care u wear long or short sleeves.. n we need to be in full gear every lesson..

oh! BBDC only requires elbow/knee guards for the first 3 lessons and then for the one on plank/slalom

apart from that, the requirements are long sleeve, long pants, shoes, gloves n helmet. i guess it's good for preventing sun burn?

hello all, new to this forum and a serial repeater for lesson 3 - figure 8/crank course for >10 times. 🥶

Feeling very demoralised as my timing hovers around 11-12 seconds, think i’m an outlier for failing so many times (healthy contributor to the school profit) 🤪

Wondering if there’s any tricks on how to overcome and get <11 seconds?

thanks!

One advice given to me here is... throttle until u feel a bit scared, then it's fast enough 😂😂😂

Kiap the tank tight, look at the direction u're going n lean the bike. Maintain throttle n u will get pass it.

thanks a lot! shall try to yolo and whack hahaha. I realised that i tend to close throttle at the end of the figure 8, fear of hitting kerb and falling i guess 🤧 hope i won’t have to go for 20 retries lol…

Maybe tt is why ur timing is too long.. once nearing the end u have to look out for traffic already. Then u can judge whether to slow down or juz go ahead.. u're currently at which driving sch? The instructor nv give u any tips meh?

is that because of the turn when you exit the end of the fig 8 thus the closing of throttle? actually the bike will slow down quite fast so don't need to close throttle so early. Just try to get a good line when you are exiting, that will give u a wide radius for the turn so u have more buffer and can take it at a slightly faster speed.

the other section where one can save time is the small straight section that connects the two circles, i.e. the transition from left bend to right bend. Can open throttle a bit n speed up, before slowing down again to take the right.

for the two bends, are you leaning and holding throttle open? it's common to subconsciously close throttle due to nervousness.

entry speed also contributes to overall time.

I’m currently at SSDC and yes the instructors do give tips but the close throttle, on throttle doesn’t really work for me cause i subconsciously close because of fear. of course ultimately it’s my fear issue which i have to get over lol but going for lessons >10 times is 😱

but thanks for your kind tips!

wahahha thanks for the motivational pep talk but i think i’m still miles away from becoming strong, now i get why so many peeps do give up half way cause it’s really tough!

yes you’re absolutely spot on! during the final semi circle of turn to exit i tend to close throttle (intentional or subconsciously) due to fear and nervousness + worrying about striking the kerb during the exit pocket as well. may i know how do i get a good line to exit smoothly?

slowing down via closing throttle (i tend to close to freeplay zone 😕) or rear brake will be the best for noobs like me?

ah i didn’t factor in entry speed as well, i tend to enter with 0 throttle, i guess that leads to my timing of 11 seconds range 🥶

thanks a lot for the superb tips, really appreciate it!

Ex ssdc student here~ 😀

U have to get over with your fear already.. last hurdle b4 u can take ur circuit test.. just rmb keep the throttle open.. juz open abit to maintain in gear 2 can already.. no scare 👍

dun need to back.. but just maintain.. :)

in school is to learn and fall.. out of school, we cannot afford to fall.. too pain to flesh and pocket..

wun la.. ask for more tips.. ask instructors to provide you with a 1-1 training (just on figure 8).. haha.. 😏

usually ladies they will be more "anything"...

dun clutch in and free play.. we only clutch in when stopping or change gear..

for me.. figure 8 = ride in faster change to gear 2.. maintain min throttle to avoid engine die.. reach 2nd circle coming to outside, clutch in gear 1, brake stop.  *sound may but I know not.. 😂 especially bigger class = shorter time frame and heavier.. (I gotten my 2A last year)

still considering 2 and my younger brother who gotten his 2A later then mine already pass his class 2.. 😂

At CDC the lesson numbering system is slightly different. But basically I'm now stuck at the circuit internal evaluation 😂 I also thought maybe just stop 😂 but a friend said actually after this it gets better only 3 lessons more. You're more than half done...

anyway... take it easy!

yeah.. numbers is to gain experiences.. so more experience you gain in school = lesser fault in real life.. = safer.. :)

CDC = I also dunno how the numbering works.. back in my days 2B = 7 lessons only.. no high way familiarisation.. a lot of things also dun have.. imagine I first time go expressway - 50 on the left side of the road.. 😂

Dunno.. can't recall if it's me or someone else (maybe @Nakuru?).. 😂 Old man with poor memories.. haha...

when start in gear 1, accelerate quickly and shift to gear 2 and prepare to turn in

keep throttle open all the time after shift to gear 2, just 1%-5% is sufficient. Only release throttle when about to exit.

speed - needs to be at a slightly scary speed if you are not able to consistently go below 11s. After a while, you will get used to the required speed. Or ask an instructor to pillion you to let you have the feel of the speed and lean.

light application of rear brake if needed to slow down at exit. Release brake before turning.

exit line - use what is called the "racing line". Go from outside of the lane to inside at the apex, to the outside again. Refer to this pic of how to take a normal right hand corner. Flip for left hand turn.

2000931304_WhatsAppImage2022-11-24at08_17_02.thumb.jpeg.db0b1635cce7c361a82b5c22b26b75cc.jpeg

i'm not familiar with SSDC layout but the BBDC layout has a hairpin (or u-turn) at the exit. So the "racing line" will be something like this for a right hander.

305993336_WhatsAppImage2022-11-24at08_17_29.thumb.jpeg.fd112efcfe617584e0a5227450e68b06.jpeg

while the bike lane in the fig of 8 course isn't very wide, positioning the bike at the outside before turning in makes a difference in the speed you can take the corner. If you have to come to a stop at the exit to allow for traffic, then stop in the middle of the lane, not the inside edge.

BTW the racing line is also applicable in crank course. For road riding, the instructors probably will want you to stay in the middle of the lane.

hope this is not too confusing. Let me know if more clarification is needed.

good luck and don't stress too much. Sometimes we just need more practice to get it right. Better to do it and learn in circuit than out on the road.

nice intro on the racing lines/apex (I dun really understand these terms until you intro) 😂.. but I hope it wun stress her too much.. cuz the lane itself is already pretty small.. so easier will be change to gear 2 asap and maintain 1-5% of the throttle to let the bike keep on moving..

I remember CDC got teach one trick for CL2 riders.. change to gear 2, dun throttle dun clutch in dun brake = pass already.. (Since I'm 2A so the class is combined with CL2 riders).. :)
