The TP Test Part 2 - Road

Ok. After completing your eBrake. You head for the exit - don't forget to change to the right hand lane before you reach the filter lane where the pedestrian crossing is. You must be in the right lane as you will be turning right later. Its wrong to change lanes in a filter lane, remember.

After passing the pedestrian crossing you signal right as you pass the lobby area. Take note if there are bikes ahead of you as you need to form up properly. If you are the first bike you are on the right if second bike on the left third bike on the right again etc.

Stop before the white line. Check for traffic. The TP is sitting directly opposite the exit slightly to your right. He can see you from the time you reach the gate before you turn out.

Check for traffic and when it is safe to turn proceed without delay. Check inwards (left if you are on the right and right if you are the left).

Proceed slowly. This road is very busy during TP hours. cars and lorries sometimes try to squeeze in even if there is a jam. TP won't care hor. Give way to others and let them go first.

Remember that form up is two bikes all the way until nearly reaching the traffic light. There is a row of motorcycle parking on the left as you get near the traffic light. As long as you haven't passed the last bike parking lot you continue to form up to rows. After you pass the last bike parking lot and signal right to turn at the traffic light, you must for up in one row on the right side next to the kerb. check away from the kerb and move off when the lights change. Be careful - this is a round light followed by arrow. Stay to the left of the middle of the intersection as there is no right turn pocket AND the nearest lane on the oncoming side is a straight plus left turn so cars will be going straight - stay to the left of the 'imaginary' center line. Also beware of the pedestrians crossing on the right side parallel to your lane. The TP is located diagonally opposite you on the right. So after you turn right he will be on your left.

After the right turn you will have to filter left. Usually there are cars parked on the left. So proceed past all of them then filter left. Don't forget your blind spot check on the left here. The TP will be sitting on the grass verge immediately after the filter lane left turn. It is a filter lane with give way line. Means you proceed without stopping with your left turn if traffic is clear. make sure there are 2 lanes clear before you turn.

After you turn, you must then immediately make a right lane change. Check your mirror, signal right, check blind spot and proceed to change lane. Continue on this lane until you reach the chevron markings on your left. At this point, check your mirror, signal right and proceed to change lane to the middle lane when traffic is clear, and then as you cross under the overhead bridge make the final lane change to the right most lane. Check your blind spot as you reach the turning point and continue to stay at the right most lane. All the way along this road if traffic is heavy and you need to stop is always 2 rows.

At the u-turn junction. Remember to check inwards when moving off and be careful. When the light is a round green light you must stop right after the your front wheel enters in between the pedestrian lines.. bike 45 degrees to the right. Check for oncoming traffic. if you are the second bike you must wait behind the white line. If traffic is clear proceed. If not, wait for the arrow to turn green. If you are the first few bikes you can proceed safely. Now, the arrow will stay green for about 8 to 10 seconds before it starts to blink. If you are a few cars or bikes behind you should ride slowly and let the light change to red. You don't want to get caught making the Uturn as it blinks. Its painful on the points!

For the u-turn, don't forget your blind spot check on the right - if you are doing it correctly you will be looking right by default (U turn u look where you wanna go, not in front of your wheel). Remember to stay within the white lines and not make a wide turn. Turn into the center of the middle lane.

Ok. home stretch. here, it can be tricky - you are supposed to lane change left and then after passing the small road on your left proceed to make your lane changes back to the right and the right most lane. On TP day it can be quite jammed here. On my TP day the right most lane was jammed all the way to nearly the end of the road where i just made the U Turn. so, you might have to lane change to the right lane immediately after completing your U turn and not make the left lane change as per normal. The TP will be sititing on the grass verge on your left after you complete your uturn. proceed to make your right turn followed by your left turn back into CDC area.

At the second last left turn outside CDC, there a green man pedestrian crossing. Remember to stop for pedestrians and then proceed after they pass. This one can catch you unawares because usually when we practice no pedestrians!.

Remember to only signal left after the last small road on your left when turning back into CDC. After turning in, signal right and change lane to the right and then immediately signal left but stay on the right of the right lane. This is a filter lane with give way line - so check for traffic and proceed to turn left into the first left lane when clear - no need to stop if no traffic. If you have to stop, remember to check back left away from the chevron markings. After turning left signal right immediately and check your blind spot and make the land change to the second lane immediately then proceed to turn right if clear. Then turn right again into the nursery. The instructor will tell you where to park your bike. Remember to get off and park it on the main stand before leaving the parking area.

All the best!!!

I assume this continuation of post #1946 applies to Lesson 8 as well?

Lesson 8 you wait for the instructor after ebrake. You don't go out to the road by yourself

ya, it felt like it was a bicycle on the highway LOL.

Every year in the January-February season, the monsoon winds change direction, causing very turbulent crosswinds and dangerous riding conditions. I felt the destabalising effects of those winds even on a 270kg bike - can you imagine how you'll be tossed about on a 90kg YBR while on the ECP or on Nicoll Highway? It's too dangerous. I can't even bear to imagine it.

Dear all,

after reading the replies on this thread, i was thinking of switching to SSDC. I have not gone for any practical lesson, not even the orientation, but I have already scheduled for the RTT. If i pass the RTT and switch to SSDC, do i need to attend the theory lessons again at ssdc?

RTT is an official test, and results are maintained with the TP rather than with the school. I don't think you need to retake.

SSDC is awesome. Go for it. I was one of those who cleared 3-4 lessons a day. Once I cleared two pracs by lunchtime since the timings were so convenient.

Hope you're not using your parade boots. You'll scratch them badly on the levers.

Seems like there are more and more girls going for bike license!

how does the 12 point thing work, eg you get a class 2, you have 12 point, in a year. you ride a class 2b also 12 points in the same year? if drive car also become 12 points?

Haha! Lornie road! You'd think pple actually learn after a while, but no. Dumb f$@ks like me still get caught after so many warnings about cameras on that stretch.

Once you hit 13 points, the newest license (the one that's provisional) is revoked, but the rest remain intact.

Yes, but cl3, 2b and 2a remain intact.

You're talking about my greatest fear now ;) I can't go back to a 400cc bike now. I've been too badly poisoned.I'd rather quit riding.

I rode around Laos in my army boots! I think it was fine eh... but you are right about being too thick.
