Care to share the difference you felt???Things like how the chassis handles, fuelling etc in comparison to the R1?Myself riding FZ1N as well..

Btw,I'm quite keen to join if there's any meet ups IF I'm not working.. haiz.. When is the next meet up fellas??

NO MORE BACKACHE!! Haha.. Handling is definitely different.. But not too much.. Its upright posture is a relieve for my back.. Power is there similar to the R1 but we are pitting against the wind.. I only tried to achieve 140km/h but not maintaining it.. Fueling cant be compared now as im only on my first pump.. I pump a total of 17 litres.. Not too sure if the tank capacity is 18litre like the R1.. Overall, this is a fun bike with easy maneuverability, power and good looks.. A windscreen/lightscreen would definitely help.. :thumb:

Like you, I also moved from the R1. In my case I'm using the FZ1S, so i still have wind protection.

My view is that there is quite a substantial diff between the FZ1 and the 04-06 R1, the engine donor.

Handling is compromised. The FZ1 is about 27kg heavier, has a longer wheelbase, inferior suspension setup, more relaxed geometry. All this translate to a more gentler, but clumsier ride. It's not as sharp or agile as the R1, but your upright position is easier on the body.

Engine/perf wise, it has a heavier crank. The gear ratio is slightly diff. The engine spools/revs up slower, and has a lower rev limit. It's lazier than the crisp R1 engine in many ways. But there is slightly more torque mid-range due to the crank.

Also, the engine is less fuel efficient than the R1. Surprise, surprise! Same 18 liter tank. R1 gets your 250 before reserve, when ridden normally. The FZ1 gets you under 220. Probably due to two things..... Heavier weight, and the exhaust/ECU tuned to reduce emissions. Makes it thirsty.

Ultimately, the FZ1 only has advantage over the R1 in these areas.

- Rider ergonomics

- Gentler road manners

- Ability to fit luggage

Elsewhere, it falls short.

For the Gen1, there is a trick to starting the bike.

Seems like u need to throttle a little to get the juices going before u crank.

Not sure if you prob is as simple as this solution.

yup, i dont think any gen1 can start without using the throttle..:D

this is a known problem and if bike is cold, likely you need at least 2 crank before it start up

wanna ride with madness?

Yes, my bike is the same.

Just crank it + a tiny blip of throttle.

Unless my bike was ridden just moments earlier, then starting it takes just a short press of the crank.

Otherwise it is crank + throttle.

mine is the other way around..easier to start when cold or bike left overnight..but need throttle and 2 tries when bike is hot

I am using the Maxima Cool-Aide collant.

I changed to it when i flushed the coolant, but I dun really notice the difference anyway. Can human legs feel the difference of a few degrees? :)

My bike's temp light is never on before or after the coolant change btw, juz that I am not used to the heat when i first got the bike.

There's been some positive discussion of the benefits of a brand of coolant called Engine Ice. You might want to try it.
