the bigger your rear sproket, the faster the pick up. the paster the pick up, the lesser mileage u gonna clock. work it out bah.

most pple using either 44 or 45 rear.

no. change both. some sprokets u previously used may nto be compatible with did x ring or wsuch.

u will hear some cranking sound or non-lub metals rubbing against each other kinda sound.

change both better. 42 is smaller.

i would just like some advise on sprocket size (no of teeth) as to which is better, and the pros and cons of each size for vtec 1.

thanks in advanced to those who will share their expertise...

There's no better or worse about the sprocket size. Just your preference.

There's 2 sprocket. The front and the rear.

Front sprocket: 15 Teeth (Pls correct me if I'm wrong). Increasing the number of teeth for front sprocket increases top speed but pick-up suffer. Must take care in choosing the number of front sprocket teeth so that the chain doesn't get obstructed.

Rear sprocket: 45 teeth (Correct me if I'm wrong again). Increasing the number of teeth for rear sprocket decreases top speed but pick-up becomes good. Note that the effect is opposite from the front sprocket. Also, its more common to change rear sprocket than front sprocket.

Why top speed increases and pick-up suffer? and vice-versa?? Coz got to do with mechanics. Power=Torque(Pick-up) x angular rotation (top speed).

If you are the type who like to have got pick-up, then you may want to stick to 45T(rear sprocket). If you want to cruise at expressway without stressing your bike, then you may want to consider changing your rear sprocket to 44T or 43T.

There are other riders whom thought of improving FC by reducing the rear sprocket to 42T or less (so that cruising at 100km/h @ 5.7K rpm) but end up worsening their FC because their pick-up is so sluggish that they ended up opening throttle when moving off.

Hope its not too much and is of good help to you. :goodluck:

i use a 42t for the rear ....

fc a bit higher then b4 but it very smooth to cruise ride on the expressway compair to 45t

pick up hrm ..... i think will be slower

with pillion .... pick up n going up slopes on a lower speed will be a drag ....

but top end .... no need to say already lar .... much faster ....

see ur riding style lar .... i'm the type who travel alot on the pie .... tamp to jurong vice versa quite alot on the weekends ..... so smoothness place an important role.

Hi,

Front sprocket can't change so mach. Only 1T or 2T.

Compare with front,

rear sprocket can change more.

final gear ratio=rear sprocket/front sprocket

So Front 1T = Rear3~4T

ex. 35/15=2.33(now)

35/14=2.5(front-1)

38/15=2.53(Rear+3)

38/14=2.71(front-1,rear+3)

If you want more top speed, final gear ratio should

be lower.

Also if you want more pickup,it should be higher.

It's up to you!!

i think your consumption is better

vtec1 reads your speed and distance by counting the revolution of your sprocket i think, instead of your front wheel (ver s, r)

so if u change your sprocket size, the revs (on the sprocket) is lower, but the distance travelled is further due to lower gear ratio

my question is, can the front be changed to 16 or 17 teeth instead of 42 at the back? cos i travel on the highway very often

does not necessarily fc is better when change to 42T rear sprocket. There's was one rider whom said that his fc increased due to he open more throttle during pick-up(as pick up is quite sluggish) and he is the type of rider who travels on normal road often.

I seriously do not think that vtec 1 measures speed and distance by counting the rev of the sprocket. Should be a sensor at the front wheel that count the rev of the wheel and translate it to rpm and distance.

As for your qn, depends on the sprocket size. As long as it doesn't hit or obstruct anything, its fine. You may want to reconsider reducing the back sprocket though. It is exactly the same thing as increasing the front. Morever, you don;t have to worry about hitting anything...

there is no cables that runs to the front wheel, its only the hydraulic hose for the brake

i am pretty sure it is reading from somewhere else, i believe the sprockets

ask your fren is his rpm is the same at 5k rpm, if it reads 80kph, then it definitely reads from the sprockets

but can i find 16 or 17t size? i think its not common

It doesn't use cables. It uses a sensor. tink its placed in the fork. u simply cannot use sprocket to monitor
