Hi guys, i got a qns. Everytime i start moving off in the morning, my bike will have a creaking/croaking sound. it only happens in 1st gear at low speeds.

But ah, after moving around and warmed up already, the sound no more. Hasnt happen to me before.

Is this normal?

btw, i just changed my chain, my frens were saying its still new and probably lacks lubrication.

could tis be the source of the prob? Will the sound go away after some time?

new chain has been greased, it will last about 800~1000km.

spray PJ1 blue cap chain lub every 1000 km.

check your chain tension n make sure it's not too tight.

there should be a bit of slack 1~1.5 inch as per owner's manual.

it means u can lift/move the chain up n down at mid section 1~1.5 inch.

i've just changed my front sprocket to 15. i didn't change the back , it's still 42. i realize i can go higher speeds at lower revs than before ..i can hit about 70km/h at 5,000rpm but i can no longer go more than 7,000rpm at full throttle. well i can go a little bit more but it's really hard. it'll be around 95km at 7,000rpm at full throttle...is it normally like this with this sprocket setting?

I think uncle soh has the best answer. I listened to his advice about 3 years ago and viola, my bike can hit 100 at 7 rpm. But like most people here, I can only hit 120 by dragging at about 8.5 to 9k rpm.

Actually, I hardly hit 8k rpm unless overtaking. Cruising at 100+ is more than satisfactory for me. I'm not really a competitive rider. Maybe cos I'm old already. haha..

Anyway, this bike's power is sort of very limited So if you really need power, uncle soh always suggest to get bigger bikes. =)

Anyway changing sprockets does affect pickups and stuff. So gotta balance, I chose speed over pickup. Less torquey but smoother ride. Maybe uncle soh can comment on your sprocket configuration. Although he mentioned it many times before.

Cheers.

sprocket ratio:

14t/42t = 15t/45t

up 1 tooth front sprocket = down 2.5 teeth rear sprocket.

stock rear tire = 140/60.

if use 130/70, it like reduced rear sprocket by one tooth.

if use 140/70, it like reduced rear sprocket by two teeth.

at full throttle, 130/70 tire with 15t/42t sprockets can go top speed 120 kph on meter at 9,800 rpm in sillypore road.

change to rear sprocket to 45t if u can't rev above 9k rpm.

Hi uncle soh,

A question. Is there a vibration damper for the handle bar so that it dampens the vibration at high rev?

If there is, how much is it and is it effective?

Thanks in advance.

vibration damper???

r u referring to steering damper? to prevent tankslapping at >200kph.

more effective ways to reduce vibration is to reduce sprocket ratios.

eg.

42t/14t=3

41t/14t=2.9

40t/14t=2.8 = lesser vib.

45t/15t=3

44t/15t=2.9

43t/15t=2.8 = lesser vib.

Hi Uncle Soh,

I read about reduction of vibration by installing something to the handle bar. But it was very vague. So I thought there is such a thing. If there isn't then it's ok.

I'd actually changed the teeth to lower the vib for smoother ride. So I just wanna explore if there's any more other ways to reduce vib.

Anyway, thanks alot. Still love you deep deep for your help and knowledge.

handle vib comes from the engine.

u can see the front engine mounting has damper but the rear mounted solid to the frame.

my previous old old chopper (cruiser) have those raised bar handle.

at it's mount onto the fork triangle bracket, there were dampers but useless.

also shake like hell, like harley D shake.

what's ur current sprocket setting? the stock setting is 14/42 right? i'm actually quite pleased with mine now (15/42) . i have a smoother ride and i can drag my rpm higher.

front brake light switch is a micro-switch, the moment u clutch-in the brake handle it's 'ON'.

rear brake light switch is behind the frame, take a look.

it can be adjust up n down by the plastic nut.

not sure where it is?? just follow the wire.

turn the nut by hand, not the switch. u might twist the wire n short it.

Can't really remember but i think it's somthing like uncle soh's. Cos he gave me the suggestion about 3 years ago and it works miraculously. :cheeky:

I'll go and check it out after work. :thumb:
