roadwinR or roadsport is the newer models of roadwin.

u can only buy 2nd hand rw which is about 4~6 yrs old.

new model r EFI, water-cooler, more power, less vibration becoz of balancing shaft.

old model rw is air/oil cool, carburetor, vibrates a lot coz no balancing shaft.

just raw n less power compare to newer model.

naked bike (rw) vs full fair sport bike (rwR).

u can buy the old model 125cc, enlarge piston/cylinder to X5 (140.2cc).

there r one or two rw on sale in garage bike sale section or at cka.

Guys! I just paid $100 bucks deposit for my Roadwin X5. But here is the catch. I don't have my class 2B yet. Haha. The 'manager' at the kaki bukit branch, called Alex, told me it is okay to buy a bike w/o your 2b license is long as you don't ride it.

So I have some doubts about my purchase.

1. Can I own a bike w/o insurance and license?

2. I still need to pay road tax as I am the owner even though no license right?

3. When I park it at my carpark, I can start the bike to let the engine run occasionally, as long as I don't ride it. It would be legal right?

Oh, and here are some info about my bike.

Coe 2016

27000km mileage

license plate is fba.

Quoted 3.8k.

Can you guys offer me some advice on what to look out for when I buy the bike.

I am very new to the bike world so hope you guess can help me out. Cka is trustworthy right?

alright thx uncle soh... will check out during my next oil change

junjian

alex is from cka bukit batok...

kaki bukit should be roy... unless they had some major manpower reshuffle...

buying first while still taking 2b? not advisable. dun buy road tax or insurance first cause ur just wasting it since u not riding it yet.

i know alex, he can be quite unclear with his words. im thinking he only meant that the 100 bucks u paid was for booking of the bike, meaning no one else can buy it now since u book it..

Yup, I won't be getting insurance cos I got no license. So I can't get also.

The thing is that is it legal to own a bike w/o insurance/road tax/license?

Yup, the $100 is part of the deposit and reserving the bike. So my balance is 3.7k. ($3800-$3700). I don't think the 3.8k is including the insurance right? Is more like machine price right?

alex as in the botak alex right?

Yup, botak alex. He tok like damn confusing de. I had to double-confirm with him alot of stuff lo.

Can anyone help me with these questions?

So is what the Alex guy doing even legal? Like say I can own the bike without a bike license? Cos as a driver, I know that to own a car, you must have a license.

I asked 2 of my biker friends and they all said it is impossible.

I am a civil servant, I don't want to caught on the wrong side of the law man.

He told me that I can own the bike and put it at my house carpark even without a license.

Please advise fellow rider. I am very new to bikes and I don't want to get cheated man.

be patient wait till u have ur license, if they sold ur reserved bike tat means u get back ur deposit, rite?

there r always a 2nd hand bikes around tat u like, rw is a rare bike, it can wait 4 u.

The Alex guy is asking me to pay the balance so he can do up the bike for me den send it to me. Abit pushy sale I feel.

How come bring it to my house carpark will get me into trouble? I am not riding it ah. Just park at my house carpark with the season parking and road tax.

It would be like lay up right?

I dono whether can get back deposit anot. I didnt ask him. Maybe I should tell him that.

I looked around for alot of 2nd hand bikes le. I really like RW only. Cos I like S4, and the only Class 2B bike that is similar to it.

This bike that they are selling me, low mileage, price is within my budget, condition is really good.

Thats why I want it badly. Last week I saw another RW at that branch. I like it also, I came back this week, it is sold le.

low mileage on meter doesn't really mean it's low mileage, it can also be meter was replaced.

sillyporean avg, most will ride/drive their vehicles about >10,000 km per yr on sillypore road.

anyway it's ur decision whether to buy n park till u get ur license. :goodluck:

Yup I know, the Alex got tell me also that trip meter can be replaced 1. I know about it also cos my dad owns a car repair workshop.

I want to buy and park the bike until I get my license. But the thing is I want to know if it is legal.

I emailed LTA, TP and Ronnie from CKA HQ liao. See what they say then update you guys again lo.

Oh ya, is there something like a plastic clip-on thing for the fuel tank? Cos i saw at the branch they have this plastic thing that looks like a fuel tank cover. Alex said that it is a plastic clip on and I can have it if I want.

Posted

Oh ya, update guys, I checked from One Motoring website and seems like this bike has been lay up til 01 Feb 2011. The reason why the bike is being sold, according to Alex is that cos the owner has a bone issue and thus can't ride. And there has only been 1 owner, which is a 40year old uncle.

tank cover comes with the bike, glossy cover to cover over dull fuel tank appearance.

Dono le, it looks like a tank cover. It is plastic 1. And it seems to look like a fuel tank, without the fuel container to contain the fuel. (It is checkered design). Think you guys really need the photo to understand what I am saying. Lol.

I got a feeling what I saw is a tank cover. He told me it cost about $300+, so it cant be a tank pad le,

Yup, will take a photo of it when I go back to make payment for my bike.

Will also take photo of my bike when I am there. He say can choose colour of the bike after i make payment.

from ur description, it's fuel tank cover with fancy design.

oem, it's plain colour either black, blue, red or white with oem rw decal sticker.

Yeah, I think so too. Which branch do you normally go to for servicing?

Oh ya, I just checked from onemotoring website. It seems that my bike is due for inspection on 1st June 2010. Can I get the bike shop to send the bike for inspection for me before I collect it?

Cos I think since they are going to tow it to me after overhauling it, might as well send for inspection for me first den tow it to me. My TP test date is after 1st June, so I definately cant ride it to inspection.

Okay, I just got off the phone with LTA. Got a positive reply from them.

Q. Can I own a bike without a license?

A. Yes you can. It is perfectly legal.

Q. So I can have the tow truck tow the bike to my house and have it parked there in the carpark?

A. Yes you can, but you need insurance, road tax and season parking.

Q. Oh, but I intend to lay up the bike until I get my license.

A. If that is the case, then you can get the bike shop to do a layup for you and you don't have to pay insurance and road tax until your bike is no longer lay up. But of cos you still need your season parking of cos.

Q. Can I start my bike to warm it up and charge the battery during the lay up period? I don't have a Class 2B license.

A. Yes you can, as long as you don't ride it and the bike stays in the lot.

Hope all this info can help other bikers like myself.

bro if u buying from cka batok and intending to lay up at ur place, DONT.

cause one thing about bikes, if u leave it there too long without moving it, it'll start to create a set of problems, on top of the exsisting problems u already have but do not know yet bout the bike.

i know ur excited to get ur license and wanna ride straight away, every biker felt it too a some point. but believe me, its worth it to just pass first, then next day go shop n get bike.

and i relate to u an experience i had with this paticular shop at mid view building :)

i went down to change front sprocket. mech lossen my rear wheel and proceed to fix on the new sprocket and tighten the chain. i rode home happily. next day i ride towards AYE from home... felt a weird wobble while on expway.

stopped by one of the bus stop on AYE.

checked rear wheel, and to my HORRORS, the rear wheel half way out of the frame. and and the bolt already more then 3/4 out. nut on the other side already gone, dunno fly where.

i called back the shop, they send for tow truck fetch me.

mech see, all stun. chief mech tell me, ''lucky ur alright''

they proceed to replace the lost parts and tighten the rear wheel properly.

they didnt charge me for tow or parts.

hey, mechs human too, mistakes happen. im lucky their mistake didnt cost me my life this time. i still patronize their shop coz i know their sincere and i still owe them money :)

im not saying that particular shop sucks or to avoid it, im just saying that that particular shop does make more mistakes and forget the lil things easily.

i say this out of concern coz after this incident, im not really confident that they will remember to do a thorough check on ur bike before releasing it to you.

best case scenario is that u pass ready, go to their shop and get bike. while there, test ride few times until ur sure no prob then carry on back home.

my 2 cents bro. roadwin has served me well and im very happy with my machine.

hope to see u on the road one day :)

Yup, I heard about your case. I followed this thread and saw your post. I don't really trust them also. But my plan is just get the bike from them. Servicing and inspection I intend to go to CKA HQ, I don't trust BB also.

I would have gotten my roadwin at CKA HQ, but they don't have much 2nd hand roadwins at CKA HQ. So I have to get it at BB.

Before I ride it, I will tow it to CKA HQ to do a check with them, make sure everything okay den I will ride it. Need to do inspection before I get my road tax after layup also.

And get my relative de friend who owns a bike shop to do an inspection for me also prior to riding.

I very Kia See 1.

The reason why I didn't buy the bike from my relative de friend bikeshop is cos they don't have roadwin. If not I sure buy from him de.

I appreciate your honest opinion. :)

And I will be asking him to start my warranty only after I get my license. If he don't want, den I don't pay lo. His pricing isn't very cheap also.

Haha, mine is not on displayed 1. Mine is on the top 'rack'. Must use the 'bike elevator' to access it. It is blue with a box. I don't think he got introduce this bike to other buyers. Cos the 1st time I went, he didn't show it to me. He showed me all the 1st floor bike.

I went back a 2nd time, he also show me the 1st floor 1. Then he ask me if I really want a roadwin, I said yes then he bought in up to 2nd floor.

I getting him to change my fuel tank cover to white colour with checkers design. And the rest of the bike would be white in colour. Next time if you guys are there and see me with a white bike, feel free to say hi to me. I would love to make more biker friends. :)
