hi bro windows98,

you pose tough questions.

pardon me when i picked up the 2004 fjr from southern motor, my passion for fjr overlooked all the questions and the love for it overtook the concerns i should have for an used bike...

i didnt even read a single page from this fjr thread even though i knew its existence long ago. i didnt even ask for a second opinion though i hav more than enough riding buddies to consult one thing or two.

it was love at first sight. oh yes, i did ask about the mileage and ask them to crank the machine.

when the offered price is right (for me). (sori, i didnt compare prices with other motodiams), not becos i am rich, but it just sounds right.

now, i am the new owner.

with your experience and looking at the numerous rides you owned in the past, it's hard to tell you what you should look out for when hunting for an used fjr. and it will be an arduous task to tell you the cost for each model year. you see, not every used (or 2nd hand, 3rd hand....) fjr is the same.

and about the maintenance cost? i don't think it will be very far from your fz1.

and to think that you have read thru 60 pages (or 3000 posts) in this thread... wow, you are in a better position to advise us on picking an used fjr.

good luck. :)

Hi, windows,

You may want to consider this :

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262812

If you are getting a re-sale one from a bike-shop, try to ask them start the bike for you to throttle.

Try to listen for the loud "tia tia" sound near to the oil tank. This may signify the loosening of the timing chain which can be "fatal" to the engine if it snaps inside... :(

Personally, I will prefer to change both the timing chain and the tensioner if there is any problem with either one.

Though you may have to spend a little on changing these two items, at least you can have a safe mind riding this beauty.

Trust me, you will not regret after getting a Fabulous-Joy-Ride. :thumb:

Cheers. :)

I want to add a bit of my experience at this place too. When i went to get my tire installed, there was a chinese mechanic who brought out the wrong tyre. Lucky for me, I saw it and asked him to get the correct one. Instead of the touring, he was putting on a sport model (donno the difference, but probably stickier tires). Please double check for proper tire and installation in future!

:dot:

Went to get mine changed there yesterday, price went up to 180 already. Additional 2% service charge for using credit card, 3% for some cards (they dunno the name of the 3% cards, but they can recognise it ... i was told)

Some china mechanic did the work for me, some comments

1) Went near closing time, he tried to slip-shot by not balancing. I asked one of the old men in business shirts, tehn he asked the china guy to do it.

2) Chinaman said "ok" to me before he even tightened the 6mm Allen pinch bolt.

3) After I pushed the bike out and inspected further, i found that he installed the ABS sensor cable holder wrongly - face out instead of face in. In his defense, he said he has only dealt with '06 onward models, and the cable holder faces out. That would also explain why he was pumping the rear brake pedal after putting back the front callipers. He must have tot that all FJRs have the linked rear brake.

overall still good value for $, but need to pay attention when tyre is being changed and MUST inspect thoroughly before leaving.

Hi, anyone knows what kind of polish to use for polishing aluminum besides Autosol, like the one I saw on one uncle riding Fa333. Its purple like toothpaste. :dot:

Saw a bro riding a black-coloured (think it's a '08) FJR on slope of NUS, PGP.

I was riding down-slope towards NUS, PGP.

Hi FJRians. I am looking for help to download a soft copy of the 06 FJR workshop manual. Its probably nested within these hundreds of pages which I gave up after a couple of hours looking as well as Googling up many links on line that are broken.

If any kind soul here could, I would deeply appreciate it if you could send me a copy or make a CD of it and I'll come collect at your convenience in exchange for deep gratitude and a favour owed. $ sounds obsene but I'm prepared to pay if its decent to do.:cheeky: Thx mucho.
