Im riding a GSXR 1000. If you're still on your Tiger, it should cost you no more than $70 for the EBC HH( You require a pair). I dun want to state the exact price to avoid a price war.

If you wana avoid the slightly strong wear of the ebc HH brake pads on your rotor, you can try the sbs from planet. If you are DIY person, can get the Organic green vesrah pads from eversuccess.

Hi,I will like to share some experience with others about recent visit to Planet motor clinic.

My front brake callipers got jammed and sent to see doctor. Doc chong told me that the item had to be rebuild with piston rings and others changed.

Nurse Beng told me that the "feel' was not there and he tried to rectify like "bleeding",polishing the lever head and etc for more than 1 hr. As he need to go for lunch, I go walk walk see see.

I came back about 30mins later and Nurse Beng told me that my bike is outside.Doc Chong told me that he had test the bike and all is ok.

I press the brake lever and actually could touch the throttle. I told Doc chong that this is not OK. He claimed that it is like that after servicing and will take about a week to get back to normal.

I know that it is rubbish but too bad I had paid the S$160/=. I went to enquire with other bike shop but none could rectify the fault. Lastly I was told by MotoWorld mech that it is a common error with my bike model callipers after rebuild.

Finally being dejected and desperate, I went to Bikeworks to look for Doc Beng(ex-nurse of Doc Chong) who rectify the fault without telling me why(trade secret).Bill:S$30/=

Guys, I am riding a Hayabusa-1298cc.

HOW TO RIDE 300KM/HR WITH SUCH LOUSY BRAKING SERVICING BY PLANET.

Above mention is only for reference only.

Lastly Doc Chong told me that he only guarantee my bike no jammed but not effective braking.

well done job.

Hi bro, i spoke to doc chong. And he says he have no memory of doing your bike. He says he will never let a bike out with no proper braking capability, cause that is ridiculous. He is willing to meet you again at his shop to clear any misunderstandings. Please do reply because if you really did not do it then ur comments are defammatory for his business. :)

hi bro, take a chill pill..

Haha! U idiot, everytime suddenly appear n disappear. But just to make it clear, i'm chill. I was actually disappointed in chong when i read that post cause brakes r a safety issue, life n death issue. Thats why i go ask ah chong. N ah chong is very confident he wont anyhow do n he was shocked that he charged $160 to service jammed brakes. So honestly, he wants to clear his name n e only way to do so is for kenfoo to agree to meet n talk or to at least give more details to allow ah chong to remember if he really did a crappy job. I mean if ah chong really did it, e comments deserves to stay, if not i guess a something has to be done.

hi, as mention what i state is only for the reference of SBF bikers and others. There is no need for me to clarify with Doc chong as I will not be able to get back the exta cash that I had paid to others mech to rectify the fault.

If you trust what he say, then pls carry on supporting him and that is the end of the story. fyi, I had visited his shop since 19 yrs ago when I started riding..thks

no problem at all. I can see that you have really been a rider a long long time. I mean, you patronized chong even when ah beng was there. so that must be some time ago. But just out of curiosity, since ah beng was like your favorite mech, why didn't you seek his help the very first time you encountered the problem?

standing from a 3rd party point of view.

If you did not service your brake else where, he will be obligated to do until you are pleased with the results.

With regards to the $160, it depends on how you neg with him already.

Ah chiong rather don't earn money for alot of cases and he give season customers first.

He turn away alot of customers if you stay in his shop for more than 8 hours as I've seen that before.

The only bad part about his shop is, dirty.. LOL..

Anyway, just my 2 cents of comment. If you really want to give up a good shop that you went for 19 years den I can't comment much.

*there must be a reason why you went for 19 years isn't it? ;)

I went alot of bike shops for past 5 years but I didn't really stick with them because after some time.. things become diff..

*sorry, i'm just a newbie's comment.. :(

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

nah, i have faith in Ah Chong's skills.

but no one is perfect, there could be 1 incident where he has not exercised his due dilligence but i doubt it.

he is quite detailed for someone who walks around and shouts profanity. I remember once when i went to service bike. One of the locking nut on my license plate was off already but i didn't tell him about it. When i rode back home and remembered to check, he replaced the locking nut even though i didn't tell him.

anyway, a few incidents is fine as long he dun chop.. I once went to a shop and was quoted $500 to overhaul my engine when my valve jam only.. ah chiong charged me $30.. so I would say, there's always a reason why we would go back to the shop..

I personally do not have any fav mech or shop. all boils down to skills and convenience.

Just another rider stating facts..

To all the Planet regs, I've visited ah chong before but he recommended that some stuff need not be changed, hence, I have yet to test his mech's skills.

However, I had a friend who went there not too long ago and came away with a not-too-pleasant a mechanical experience.

I still believe in ah chong as he's prolly one of the few (if not only) bosses who will actually tell you that stuff can wait to be replaced/repaired and even gave me tips on how to do a quick DIY repair instead of charging me for it.

What I would like to know, is which mechs are prolly the more-skilled ones ( I know there's a new PRC fella or some-some like that ). Can PM me if you do not wish to discuss here.

Thanks!

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

95th Time at Planet!

02/09/2012

11:30am

weather: Sunny

mood: Curious

Towed my DR800 to Planet last night, because it started choking when on CTE, and stalling whenever I stopped and finally became impossible to start at Bras Besar road.

I tried dismantling the fuel pump to see if it was a pump problem like last time, and tightening the bolts to the exhaust along the way, but to no avail.

So I consulted Ah Chong about it. Ah Chong said it's either fuel can't get into the engine or no spark from the spark plugs.

So I opened up the fuel pump again and Wah Piang! Found that one of the diapham I reassembled in the dark was folded. :(

Luckily I had a spare and I went about rebuilding the fuel pump putting in new gaskets and the one diapham to it.

While working on the fuel pump, I spoke to one malay chap on his African Twin and talked about how married life changed our biking days, and then intro to him a GPS Tracker I used. Poor chap had a friend whose bike got stolen in JB right after her installed new forks and wheels. Sad man! :(

After I was done with the fuel pump, I recharged the battery and changed the oil and oil filter and "BRrrrrrom!" The bike started easily! I went for a test ride. But at the first traffic light, the bike died again! And I had to push the bike all the way back to Planet. :weep:

At Planet, Ah Chong checked the fuel pump to see if it was working by dismantling one of the hoses and fuel squirted out, splashing onto him and Ah Chong said fuel pump confirm working! So he said, confirm the problem was simply spark plug spoil and asked me to get new spark plugs for the bike, but said it will take some time because need to remover the fuel tank. I told Ah Chong no need to remove and went to take out my spark plug tool, however, it was too long and I went to saw part of it off to shorten the tool then drilled 4 holes into it so that it can be cranked using a screw driver. :)

When I removed the spark plugs without removing the fuel tanks, Ah Chong said I was truly the "SON OF GOD"

But I had pretty much drained out the battery trying to restart the bike while waiting for Ah Chong to come back to have a look, so it's back to recharging the battery! :sian:

After the batteries were charged, The bike started on the first try, but again stalled at the first traffic light, I got off and took a look underneath, one the the hoses was bent like a bent straw and fuel couldn't flow, so I took out all the hoses tidied them up before plugging them back in but then.... "Still cannot start!!! Why like that one!!!!" and I had to push the bike back the 2nd time today.....

Ah Chong also very puzzled and proceeded to trouble shoot. First to took out the cap on the spark plug and asked me to start the bike.

"Hmmmmm.... got spark!."

The he unplugged the hoses to the fuel pump and saw that no fuel came out. Then said he will get a pump to suck the fuel out, while Ah Chong hurried back to the shop, I saw that the hoses were connected wrongly! In was plugged to out! :faint:

I must have plugged them in wrongly when I was tidying up the hoses! :slapforehead:

When Ah Chong got back with the sucker, I had already reconnected the hoses and the bike started easily. :)

Then I said this time I go for test ride I not so adventurous, I will just go 1 round around Planet workshop. :cheeky:

No way I am going to push the bike back a 3rd time today!

After 1 round around Planet, I purposely revv throttle and suddenly let go a few times to see if the engine will shut off by itself, but nope. No such problem anymore.

So I rode out to Ah Ann to see if he can do up a new header for my DR800, because the header was getting very very bad rusted.

On the way out of Planet, a few metres after the first right turn, an oncoming taxi saw me coming, but did an ILLEGAL U-turn on the main road and blocked both lanes in front of me and caused me to have to E-brake!

I E-braked, controlled the rear wheel and stopped 1 wheel diameter away from the taxi and horned him the " Referee Kayu 11 horn" as I went around him before going to Kaki Bukit Road 2.

When I got back, I paid Ah Chong and took both my bikes back home. Phew! So much work because of 2 fouled spark plugs! What a day!

PS: $109 For Towing, 1x oil filter, 2x spark plugs, 3x motul engine oil. No labor charges!
