I 1 year before i took license ride around singapore on my bicycle. After getting my 1st bike stay off the expressways for 3 months. Sounds extreme but it made me have a better situational awareness.

I'm also a P plate rider now, actually I find that using common sense and being safety conscious, no lane splitting, squeezing between traffic, speeding, watching out for road surface conditions especially when cornering will save you a lot of grief.

I'm also a P-plater now, but I tend to speed (sometimes, if the road is clear) because I don't want to get hit by vehicles going above the speed limit (yes, especially when you are on the left lane and there is a huge truck tailgating you). Chiong amber light I try not to, esp. at places with red light cams. Lane splitting I do, but only at low speeds (the result; getting honked at by M'sian cubs lol :help:)

Most important is to remember that your riding lessons didnt end when u got your probation license. Please bear in mind that your riding lesson has only JUST BEGUN. It is now where u really need to use your own senses and wits coupled with some knowledge at driving school to get u back in one piece.

Don't get too hyped up in excitement now that you're authorized to ride your own bikes on public roads. Other road users don't give a hoot about p plater or not. That's the reality.

Stay safe y'all and hope all of u have a rich riding experience!

p.s. I've been riding for 10 years and am still gaining experience.

About lane splitting, I would suggest not doing at all unless there is a traffic jam. Even so, as you are lane splitting, if there are punks behind you revving excessively or even honking at you, just remind yourself that your safety is your responsibility. That is what matters. Relax. At most, give way first then go on. :)

Lets share how to survive through probation(p-plate)! or any incident that happen during probation?

the most important thing to survival is to keep breathing, eating and drinking. try to keep fit and do some exercise too.

I started riding in Jul 2013 (passed in May 2013), so it's been 6 months so far. Some points that I find helpful to note:

1. Remember that staying alive is more important than getting to location fast

2. Assume that every other road user is an idiot, and how you are going to keep your distance/escape route/braking timing if anything were to happen. Basically don't blank out when you're riding and constantly look out for dangers.

3. If you make a mistake, better remember it and not repeat it.

4. Gradually increase your riding's speed range (I started riding on lane 3,

5. Be polite, even if the other users are at fault (this one is hard, I also have problems so trying to learn).

6. Your pillion rider will be more happy to be alive than to be impressed with your riding skills.

Ride safe and smart!

I like pt 6. Remember to respect your pillion. I hate people who don't respect the fact that other peoples lives are in their hands and they're showing off their driving skills.

don't ride. since insurance so ex

Gonna have to agree with this. Insurance is damn bloody expensive. Rather you be a pillion or passenger first and develop your awareness of the road and potential hazards. Take the money you saved from overpriced insurance and buy proper riding gear. I will never understand how people have $700 to buy an exhaust but can wear a $30 helmet and ride in slippers.

actually it is not about the money. it is bec they are scare of the hot weather. and i see alot of sport bike riders wear $30 helmet but they have an expensive helmet at home bec they scare get stolen, so wear cheap helmet when going out.

Just to add on for this, don't ride with pillion till you are ready on your own. Ideally, point 1-5 are done and satisfactory. For me, it took 1 month of solo ride. Even with first pillion, it was for a short, slow ride.

How about those who ride litre sportsbike with expensive fullface helmets but wear singlets and shorts and slippers? And with pillion who wears the same (tank tops and shorts and slippers)? I don't understand that either.

To add on to TS question, leave your ego at home. Other idiot road users may provoke you, chio you race, laugh at you, etc. Just let them be and ignore them.

- always stay a distance with the front vehicle and be alert if big lorry behind you, change lane away from them

- always let front vehicle driver can see you via mirror, dont hide from them

- avoid go lane 1

- avoid ride between cars if possible

- when merging lane, always let filer driver notice you, horn if needed as they may not see blind spot

- maintain speed, dont speed as rock, oil, stone too late to react when you see it

- do not assume car can see you, drive in a spot than easily be seen

- raining day either stop for sheltering or drive slowly

- always slow down before corner

I have 2 points

-everyone is trying to kill you, especially old people, women, taxi drivers and ah bengs. Seriously, treat as if everyone is trying to kill you. Trying with gusto.

-you're not as skilled as you think you are...but with riding some risks sounds more risky but actually being less risky, like filtering and speeding ahead. You have to be aggressive, not stupid.

How to survive? Just make your your bike is 100% legal. LTA n TP like to stop esp when they see p platers. So if tp or lta stop you, you at least wont kenna fine for illegal mods, tinted visor etc....

Dont ever try to beat red light while on probabtion. One time kena 12 points n fine. Another traffic offence with points n thats it..bye2 license

Always keep left if possible. I've seen some p platers riding n hogging on the right lane. Hence making other motorists to tailgate you..

Always make a habit to check your side mirrors n blindspot.

And lastly recite your prayers before starting your journey, it helps!

Be confident. Not over confident. And about lane splitting. If u r not gonna lane split or going at low speed, please move to the left and don't stay in between 2 cars. Coz some of us r riding bigger bikes and our thighs are burning slowly if we ride slow.
