Hi all,

I am seeking advice on which tour bike to purchase. I am currently reviewing Honda, BMW and Yamaha's tour bikes. My main priorities are comfort, value for money, good engine and looks. Does anyone have any advice on which to get.

In term of long term.

Maintenance, comfort for both rider and pillion, resale value, machine price and design.

Seems like your preference is for fairing tourer..R1200Rt is a nice bike but IMHO BMW motorcycles are overpriced in Singapore.

ST1300, FJR are good alternatives from a perspective of value for money, maintenance wise, getting spares, and farkles options

Others like Norge and Concour are nice although I m not sure if they will reach Sing market.

Just go with your heart, if money is not an obstacle. Do you like the handlebar position, have peace of mind when leaving it park on public roads, keeping it long term ?. Will you b lookin back over the shoulder if you choose the one that is not yr first choice.etc...what are the key differences (for eg R1200Rt is abt 50kg lighter than the ST1300) that may sway your decision. Some don't care abt weight - to some its the feel shiok factor, design, shape or even available colors that decide the choice. Then again buying a new BMW n regretting it later will mean a big depreciation cost. but if you can live with that ..go for it

Everyone,

thank you for your invaluable inputs. Really appreciate it. I am seriously leaning towards the ST1300 after reading numerous post. However, there don't seem to be many 2nd hand st1300 for sale (at least on this forum). Is the only alternative buying a new one? Or are 2nd hand ST1300 available from dealers and workshops? Any advice will be helpful.

Saw one ST1300 FBB plate preowned at Mah (Serangoon) last week. Saw one oso at Belwin Motors ( Syed Alwi Rd) 2 weeks ago. Try calling Looi's, Dexing, Bike Production..or jalan jalan Ubi area and Jln Bukit Merah...you might get lucky

Good luck

What's wrong ?

The thread says BMW vs Honda vs Yamaha.

Wave is made by Honda right ?

And what's wrong with it being a tourer ?

It probably outlast anything.......Here in the Philippines , we never have to worry about parts should it fail anywhere we ride. In the worst of circumstances we just load up the bike into the rear of a jeep and we are good to go.

Furthermore 35miles/L......

I've got nothing more to say.

Enjoy ur tourers.

Salamat.

I was caught in the same situation two weeks back. Was toying between the ST1300 and FJR too. Leaning towards the ST13 as comfort was on the top of my list as I plan to do two up touring to neighbouring countries. After reading so many reviews on the two bikes, I think I can safely say that you will not have regrets choosing either. Just choose the one that suits your needs better.

Well, I got lucky and chance upon a good condition ST13. Eagerly waiting for the transfer of the bike within the next few days.

Have you take a look at the new concours? Paper specs seems to suggest it has the best of ST13 and FJR.

FJR or STX1300? FJR or STX1300?

Many people can't decide on which.

Price wise (in terms of depreciation/year), they are not too far apart these days.

People often put their choice based on specs such as horsepower, weight, etc without riding the bike.

I would like to share my experience, as a STX1300 owner, to help in the decision:

If it is very important to you, to have your tourer tour at high speed (>200kmh) for long stretches along straight northsouth highway, then FJR is the bike.

If you want to feel the "punch" of the engine pull when you wind the throttle, then FJR is the bike. The difference is only 10hp but the STX's engine has a flat torque curve, typical of Honda sportsbike, so you can't really feel the engine pull though the bike is going very fast.

If value-for-money is important to you, then FJR is the bike that is better-for-money.

If you want a tourer that is very fun at cornering twisty trunk roads, *surprise suprise*, the STX is the more fun bike. I just came back from riding my STX to Thailand Betong, Malaysia's Gerik Highway and Baling highway, the STX is a surprise relevation on corners.

If you want an ultra-posh, smooth engine, smooth ride, vibration free, quiet tourer smacking with high build quality, then STX.

If you want a tourer that is very good at cutting off windblast along NorthSouth, then STX.

Jus my 2-cents: if the above quoted is what you REALLY want, i think u better get a car and drive... :sian:

like a saying i've heard before, if u wan a bike with bike windshield, music stereo, electronic controls & gadgets, u better be driving. hmm, wonder why still got pp riding GWs... hahhaa...

FJR is a really very powerful bike, thats all i can say.... :p
