I kind of think that informing the police could be kind of no use.

I believe that most of us here kanna stuff stolen from bikes and make a police report. Only to receive a letter from them saying that lack of evidence cannot follow up etc.

I got that letter quite often that I give up already. Previous encounters on different bikes I owned. Fairing kanna stolen, IU unit kanna stolen, Seat kanna stolen etc. (The rest are small items like helmet, rain coat etc) Call police, than after 2 weeks they will send you the letter I describe above. End of story. They can't help much.

HAha... and the cooking oil thing, I think the thief will know is cooking oil right? I mean the smell will be different liao. Petrol smell and cooking oil smell. I did thought of doing this before, but as stated above the thief does the stealing more on a monthly basis, if unlucky at times may kanna 2 times a month. So unless I can find a way to travel with my bike for a month and cannot warm up my bike for a month. Is quite hard to follow this method.

Hahaha, Thanks for the advice anyway.

Dun put cooking oil, it will damage your tank and your engine, if you are not careful.

I never try before, but you know that there is a switch that turns main, reserve and off? The petrol switch. In my opinion, it is possible to change it to a key form, it means, using a key to switch the mode, like our igination key. But the good thing is, you dun need the key to be there to on it. Imagine like the esclator that you see in shopping center where there is a switch on the btm using a key to on and off.

So in short, you can ON the switch when you are going out, and OFF the switch after you reach home. The good thing is, you lost minmal petrol, only those at the tube will be stolen.

BUT, I never try before, but i know its possible. Example, the water hosing that the clean use when cleaning your block, they got a special key to turn the knob ma. But you dun use that kind, you use normal key thing, not screw key. Hope you understand.

Hi LarryDK

Change the petrol switch to a key form?! Thats the thing I would need!

I thought of using custom locks etc but I do not know where I can do 1. May I know where I can go to do this? Change the petrol switch into a key form? You know where I can go to do this?

This idea shd work as if they cannot turn on the petrol, they can't steal the petrol easily.

Oh yeah, noob question. Is phantom 200 able to use petrol 92? I have been using 98. But if 92 will work on phantom, I thinking of cutting my losses by changing to 92 or 95 till I find a way to prevent the thief

Thanks

First of all, any kind of petrol will work for phantom, or any bikes. But its recommended to fixed on one type. Anyway, phantom wont eat alot of money also ma.

As for custom key maker, I suggest you go to a lock smith, (That does house keys) then tell him your situation. take a photo of your bike petrol switch and show it to him.

My experience is, the knob is a 3 point switch, thus you need a correct size switch that turns 3 point. (Dont need the words main reverse or off) Most likely, need to custom make, but its for long term, so it will be okie. Its not hard to change, its just simply take out the old knob, and it will reveal the metal piece(The rubber knob is simply use for turning the switch inside) and then inset a key turn knob. Note that it means the new knob will be more outstanding, because it becomes a key compact now ma.

Hope you understand ba. But if you go down to a lock smith(big one) they should be able to understand your problem. :)

Find a lock smith ah?

Hmmm...got to look up on yellow pages liao. Than call and ask them if they can do something like tat for me.

Hey thanks man, LarryDK. This method may work. I will go find a lock smith after my exam next wednesday. Should I find 1 that does a good job, I will post it here. So that for those phantom riders facing the same problem as me can consider doing the same.

Thanks man.

It will work, on the technical aspect, its workable, but if its the size and fitting on that is the problem i think. because a phantom knob should be a 3-4cm wide circle, so getting a key lock that size is not common. (But can be found, imagine your drawer lock can le) You might need to bring down your bike, because they might need to peel off your knob to see how the mechanism of the turning knob is inside.

Hey I just checked one of the phantom in my work place. okie, its not a rubber type knob, but a metal type. Its secured by 2 bolt. So it means, you have to drill out the bolt before you can take out the knob. (You have to set it to off before doing that) The bolt can be punch back easily anyway, ya. so let the technical guy check, it will be simple, from the phantom, its less than 3 cm wide. Most likely using the smallest key type liao.

Thanks for the information on the knob. Yeah, I will let the technical guy take a look. Hope I can find a place which will provide such a service. And hopefully is not going to cost me a bomb.

No, its not something new. I think it have been existing. (its just keyholes, nothing much) Just that not alot of people will be bothered to do it anyway, since the theft is very selective areas. And having the key to on and off is quite troublesome at times.

i think custom made a lock like wat the uncle did is easier.. juz go ride a few rounds ard some industrial park.. if u see any welding shop or any shop u deems fit to do the job.. juz walk up to them n ask them if they able to fabricate 1 for u lor....

Me also almost got stolen. One morning, was going work did my routine; unlock the bike, took out my helmet from box; sat on the bike, put the key into ignition, switch the **** to on position. As I was putting on my helmet, jeans feel wet; look down;

WTF, my petrol tube was hanging out and petrol was flowing onto my keft leg jeans. Quickly turn the **** to off position and quickly got off the bike.

1st thing that came to mind; someone STOLE my petrol!! Went home; changed and rode my bike to the kiosk. Hmmmmmm, only top up $1.00+. Wel, well well, it seems that the petrol stealer didn't get a chance to steal the petrol....probably got frighten off by some passerby/biker/motorist at the carpark. Since that day, no more such incidents.
