Potholes on the NSH? Do you mean uneven roads? I have been up the NSH quite a few times and so far, never seen any potholes except for horribly uneven roads at some parts, but most of the way, it smooth sailing.

However, there's once, nearing the Sungai Besi toll, there was a trailer tire, yes a trailer tire, a huge one, right in the middle of the road! No way to go above that. Guess thats when counter-steering comes into play.

oh, well..sorry. could be uneven roads.

wat i mean is after gng over the uneven part of the rd, the handle bars shake violently. any technic to control it?

thanks throttle!

Practice This technic By Riding Fast over a Speed Bump...

(u will feel very much in control of the Bike -

your suspension will just eat up the Bump)

Crz the North-South Highway:

Note The Bumps Crossing Bridges(that pan over roads)

Same Technic... only Higher Speed!

Be aware that there are Bikes that drop cos' they loose control over these bumps.

Know the Statistic... Don't Be ONE!

If on dirt bike, Weight to the back, Wack Hard. Result is front wheel is light or off the ground and will clear that object, the back wheel and suspension absorbes the bump. Same technique for pot holes. In fact same technique when in doubt.

If the object is too big, or the log is not at right angles to your dirrecion of travel, then best to slow down and go around the obstacle.

I suspose normally you are prepared for obivious things, but what about the things that take you by surprise.

EG

Once I was riding along Bouna Vista Road between AYE and the Caltex petrol station. I heard a clang, then seconds later the front of my bike went wobbly as hell. Managed to bring the machine to a stop and realised I suffered a blow out.

Another time different bike, I was travelling along CTE between the 2 tunnels. The riding conditions excellent and little traffic. Was over takiing a open-back truck carrying big boxes with washing machines inside. The truck was in the middle lane, the truck wanted to exit the highwayy at Cavanaugh Road, along with the moving to the left abrupt and bend in the road, the G forces caused the truck to spread its load over the carriageway. Luckily I drop a gear and got past the truck, but if I was just 1 or 2 seconds behind, then I would have been hit.

Another time i got hit by a crow. Riding at 60 kph, I saw this black thing out of the corner of my eye, then everything went black and blue and white. I stoppped not benn ablee tto seee where I am gogin. The outcome could have been woorse.

Then another tiime, I am stationary at the lights, between a bus and a big dumper truck. When the lights go green, my bike stalled. Luckily the truck saw that I have a problem and stopped, Otherwise the truck would have chewed me up, or the bus chewed me up.

Also in the JB Checkpoiint JAM, i have felt someone tap my shoulder/arm, then realised it is one of those blue worker buses nudging pass me. I have no escape, even if I jump off the bike.

Then there was an iincident on the level crssing, buut that is anothr story for another day.

Interesting contribution... Great!

Me taking a Break... Songkran in Phuket...

Went over quite a Few Railway Line... today...

"Hold Firm... Course Straight

Bike Upright...

Rise Slightly on Foot Pegs"

No real need to slow down...

Rising over Bumps also Relieves Your BackSide Fatigue...

Will be riding 1300km back tomorrow... (in 2 days)

The Roads here in Thailand is Shinny...

(needs more braking dist.)

So far... a safe & Good Ride...

Very scenic... but need to also keep eyes on road... :thumb:

3 DEADLY JUNCTION!

~JURONG WEST~

Like to thank "Endlesslop" for this Contribution

Living @ Jurong West... He notice frequent accidents at these junctions...

Please Take Note! if u use these Junctions...

If u use these junction & in the High Risk Group(ntu/scdf)

Don't Add to the Statistic...

And Please Pass this informationt to your Fellow Bikers..

The most dangerous junction and with the most frequent accident of the 3 are:

1. The cross junction between Jalan Bahar and Jurong West Ave 2/4.Either 90 degree approach can be hazardous.

Vehicles descend (going westward) from Jurong West Ave 2 towards Jurong West Ave 4 can pick up great speed and approach the junction at 90-100kmh.

If they do not consciously slow down, as they approach this junction they would be in for a rude shock when vehicles turn right and cut perpendicularly into their path.

Vehicles traveling along Jalan Bahar (both Northwards or southwards) will have the same problem that the road design allows vehicles to approach the junction at great speed.

2. The next one is cross junction between Jurong West Ave 4 and Jurong West St 75/St 64.

3. The third one is cross junction between Jurong West Ave 4 and Jurong West St 71/61. An undisciplined bike can approach this junction at 90-100 kmh.

So if you travel along the Jurong West Ave 2 to Jurong West Ave 4, which I do, you have to run through a gauntlet of 3 continuous high-risk cross-junction.

Three other factors contribute to the frequent accidents there:

1. NTU is nearby

NTU students who ride/drive to school would still have very little on-the-road experience as they run through this gauntlet daily unaware of its danger.

2. SCDF camp at Jalan Bahar

Many young malay bikers.

3. AYE, PIE are nearby.

During morning peak hour, working adults rush to work towards these expressways.

During evening peak hour, working adults exit from these expressways to rush home.

Note: Please PM me if U find a Areas which are a danger to Bikers... THks.

Changing Gears In a Corner will Only Get u Into Trouble...

Drop Gears According to The Sharpness of the Corner.

Before Entering...

A good Estimate would be...

4th gear into 70km corner

3th gear into a 50km corner...

2th gear into a Hair Pin Turn (eg. > 90 deg corner)

At times U may have to Change Gear to Keep Bike Under Control...

When Already in the Corner...

That would then be called a Recovery...

On Your Motorcycle,

4 things separate u from the ground.

Each of these points mention above

By itself,

can protect you.

In the particular order as listed above...

After that, It's just you & the road.

COMBINED,

they creat a strong defense against

the potential hazards involved with motorcycling.

Just like to add a point. I always see some bikes especially small cc one and p plate riders riding slowly btw two lane close to the white line that divide the lanes. It's very dangerous to ride in that way as they are squeeze in between two lane of traffic when car overtakes, it will be very close to the bikes and any miscalulation by the driver will results in an accident. It's a kind of scenario different from the traffic jam situation where you going past the in between cars cos then they are in very slow speed.

At junctions when turning left, DO NOT squeeze to the left, esp when u c big vehicles in front, even at slip rds!

Big trucks or buses require big space when turning, their rear wheels will take up extra space on the side of turning: meaning, if they turn left, their rear wheels track are nearer to the left kerb than their front wheel track, the same for when they turn right! Worse still, big vehicles almost always keep RIGHT when turning LEFT (they need to do this because of what I explained above, otherwise their rear wheels will mount kerb), and if it does not signal left (most big vehciles have faulty signal lights), u'll think it is going straight or turning RIGHT, so u squeeze to its left and when it turn left, tits rear wheels r going to run over u!

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Does that mean very few men (let alone women) can ride Goldwing, 360kg, the rider must be at last 120kg??

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Posted

eh.... how bout a lil more than 3x?

im pretty much on the light side (~55kg) and i would love to ride an r6 (162kg) one day....

and does height matter?

hello! =)

R6!!!!!!!!!!

It is Just A recommendation...

It is just a Guide... (+/- 10Kg is OK)

A Bike that Heavier than 3x weight of rider...

The Handling of the Bike would be More difficult...

Especially at Low Spd or Stationary...

The Guide is

Should be able to Push Our Bikes in a Figure of 8...

Place your bike on Its Stand.

Hold the Bike upright when U stop

Reach the Controls easily.

Sufficient skill to control the bike.

If u can do all above... u can ride the bike safely...

Have seen a few small riders on Gold Wing...

...they handle the bikes very well...

Have not see any ladies on GOLD Wing Yet...

But if they have the skill... it would be fine. :thumb:

Cabal... A 600cc sports bike would fit u Fine!

As for Height of Bike

Both your Feet should be Level on the Ground when sitting on the Bike...

Tip-Toe means the Bike is a Little too High for U.

I have seen one before, at GP esso, south bound. This slim, tall, pretty looking lady. Has legs that goes on forever! Push the bike off the main stand, onto the side stand. Got onto the saddle, kicked up the side stand and just rode off, long hair flowing in wind.

In case you guys are wondering howcome got wind even when the shield is so high, she cut hers. Half the height of normal ones....

I looked so insignificant, on my super 4.....

When Riding between Cars eg on white lines... that's term as Filtering.

Always remember...

It is always safer to Travel at a Speed Slightly faster than the average traffic.

Overtaking between lanes is OK.

But Be quick to react as there are less room to maneuver.

Also if u notice a gap in the traffic...

Watch out! the vehical adjacent may want to fill the gap!

So it is the same as in a Jam... U are overtaking. OK!

But to be overtaken at High Spd riding on the White lines that divide the Lanes...

That is Very Dangerous! :giddy:

My opinion to this is that if we can get to the front of the traffic lights, always stop and wait in front of the first vehicle, even if we cross the STOP white line. Avoid staying betwen vehicles, esp big ones.

If we cannot get to the front, stay behind the vehicles. Never between.

This is especially true for smaller bikes where pick up is slow and you may not be able to beat the cars or even trucks.

Ya... Would be quite risky if stall between 2 Vehicles & the Lites goes Green.

Slow Pick Up... I would normally choose Cars instead of Trucks/Buses.
