Was at Abboy Motor Racing this afternoon to swop out the rims on the DRZ that has been sold.

A young Beng came over from Lim Ah Boy workshop and asked my mechanic Boy Kallang if he could work on his bike. Boy was busy with my bike so he asked his partner Mun to entertain the Benglet.

P-plated KR150... and he wanted to put on a race exhaust.. the same expansion chamber kind that we use on the race Y125Z. Seems that he has a 'jackpot' race sometime this week night. Heard that the wager was $200.

His instructions to Mun was to put in the race pipe, remove the rear disc and caliper (:faint:) and remove the lower fairings to cut down the weight. (o_O)

Why didn't the MotoGP and WSBK teams think of such a brilliant way of weight savings? :thumb:

To each his own......but I sincerely hope he survives this week coz its really not worth losing your licence or your life just for $200.

if you notice, alot of those sp with sotong tyres dont have rear brakes at all. kinda crazy . . . dont know what some pp is thinking

or rather they are not thinking at all

If what you say is true... I guess I will start paying closer attention to these bikes and see if they really did remove their rear brake assemblies.

But hell... this is indeed crazy. :faint:

Hahaha. Here's a preview. And the most drama one.

It's a 1/2 hour video from my camera mounted on my left crash bar during my 2B days, cut up into a 2:34mins video with comments and posted on YouTube just now.

Only part I wasn't happy about was the the part at the traffic light was a bit long.

nice bro, keep it up. perhaps we shd meet up with more riders with such footages and compile them together! :thumb:

anyw, really eat my own words. Just as i was saying hope u wun get to finish ur compilation (in hope that u wun bump into such arzeholes frequently) i bumped into 1 today. really close call. :( will post up the vid soon as well.

It was removed as per his instructions. When he left, with the wry smile of an impending victory on his mind.... we all just look at each other and shake our heads.

Although I never use the rear brakes when I am racing the supermotard or Y125Z on the tracks... I still want the back brakes for emergency purposes.. like when the front brake fades from overbraking.

Removing the whole back brake disc, caliper, master pump and lever...that is a bit too much for me.

There is a very vague thin line that divides acts of stupidity and insanity. o_O

Now for those with small rear 'sotong' tyres.. they might as well remove the rear brake assembly... that makes sense. With such a small tyre to road contact surface.. any application of the rear brake is an invitation to a skid since the friction contact patch is so small it is totally ineffective.

i read somewhere that using the rear brake with the front makes e bike more balanced during hard brakign before a corner... else the chances of the rear tire lifting up is higher...

well, i cant handle so much, thus i use my front brakes only at track.. but for street riding i use alot of rear brake.... besides, it really helps during sudden downpour...

anyway, now then i realised that "uncle" at abboy shop is u.... didnt noe u frequent his shop, dont noe if u remember, but i was a bald kid with a nsr150 at pg then in 2005..... so tuas track gone alreadi, gonna head back to pg?

wah thats a close call...should show this clip to the Traffic police safety department..

they keep harping about bikers death here, bikers accident there but not all bikers are lacers or irresponsible..everytime i read about a bike accident, i pray that the biker is ok..

they should now concentrate their efforts on educating the 4 wheelers to be more wary of bikes but i guess that will never happen....:sian:

Geez! Seriously? A lot of them got no rear brakes? Better keep clear of SPs!

sp's only?..i also see a lot of rxz with sotong tyres..but never really notice whether they got rear brake or not:cheeky:

now if i see sotong tyres, i better siam before anything happen:angel:

i read somewhere that using the rear brake with the front makes e bike more balanced during hard brakign before a corner... else the chances of the rear tire lifting up is higher...

well, i cant handle so much, thus i use my front brakes only at track.. but for street riding i use alot of rear brake.... besides, it really helps during sudden downpour...

i guess braking on the track is different from braking on normal road conditions.

but what i learnt is that always apply front brakes more and only use rear brakes when coming to a stop. Isn't that what the school's teach us anyway.

but in emergency braking most of what we learnt goes out the window..haha

anyway different bikes need different braking techniques, previously riding my phantom, i use to use my rear brake heavily causing some hairy moments when my rear tyre fishtailed, that was when, a forumer commented that the phantom is a rear heavy bike and should use front brake more when braking.

jamming the front brake will make the bike lose control as the front tyres will stop spinning but rear tyre spin. experienced it a few time during e-braking inside circuit..kind of scary especially when you feel that you are not in control of the bike.

It aint me officer...The bike is POSSESSED!!

To be fair, you have given him space to squeeze into your path. Look at your line, even if the Mercedes did not cut your lane, you'd have taken an abrubt line. Halfway through the turn I know you're in trouble already.

The Nissan Sunny infront of you is taking the wider, better line.

Don't just follow the rules. Use your head and ride defensively.

dung play play with cars la, they ki siao can do anything to u.

and u are still following too closely if u almost rear end the taxi!

if u can anticipate until u ald braked before the brake lights of the car in front of u comes on, then u would have "the sight" ald. :cheeky:

fwa, i think the argument goes both ways.

just bcoz the driver can, doesn't mean he should.

But ur point is valid - i suppose defensive riding plays a part here as in if we ride until drivers cannot play stunt, they won't play stunt... Most times... And i suppose that's where silent hunter's point comes in...

You have to be there to see it.

Too bad the camera was hard fix to the left crash bar. So you don't see the big picture.

Hence I don't blame you for jumping to conclusions.

If you look at the video carefully, I WAS following the Nissan's line. Up until 1:51 min when you see the image start to shake abit and my line cut into the broken white line. That was because the Mercedes has already cut in and was right besides me, (so near I could have opened her door with my left hand) forcing me to give way. Had I not braked and swerved, to give HER space to squeeze while negotiating the turn, I would be at Mandai cremantorium already.

Moreover, you can see that it's 3 lanes at the red light, 3 lanes at the end of the turn.

She was cutting in from the middle lane into my lane while turning.

NOT Signalling, and braking while I was literally inches behind her. Instead of following the flow.

In basic theory, we learnt --- You mustn't change lane or overtake another vehicle when negotiating a turn at a traffic light junction. This is clearly inconsiderate driving. A clear cut case of breaking of road traffic rules.

And I didn't purposely leave a big gap in front of me either, the gap existed because the Black Hyudai split off 1/2 way through the turn to another road.

If I had not been alert and used my head, but had followed the Nissan ahead to maintain the better, wider line, instead of reacting quickly by Braking hard, and swerving right to evade, it's clear that I will be knocked over and be run over by the cars behind.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you looked at JackOHJack's video, you will notice the same situation. (swerving pattern)

Will you say that it's his fault for swerving to the road shoulder giving space for the van to come in?

The situation is give way or DIE.

@JackOhJack: even if he knew...i doubt he would have done much different. such is the way some drivers drive....hmm....

sadly, yes it is. and the authorities does not seem to be doing anything abt it.

found this interesting speech:

[yt]

[/yt]

Congressman Duncan speaks about the importance of motorcycle safety on the floor of the House on May 5, 2009. Congressman Duncan's district - which includes a large portion of the Smoky Mountains - is a top destination for motorcyclists.

"Madam Speaker, I would like to voice my strong support for H. Res. 269, and I want to commend the primary sponsor of this resolution, Dr. Burgess, from whom we will hear in just a few minutes. The resolution expresses support for the goals of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

As the weather gets warmer across the country, our Nation's highways will experience a very large increase in motorcycle traffic. Because of the increased ridership and potential for accidents, each year May is designated Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

During the month, State agencies and motorcycle organizations across the country conduct a variety of activities to remind all riders and motorists to share the road. These activities also encourage riders to be properly licensed, receive proper training, never drink and drive, and wear protective head wear.

As the popularity of this mode of transportation increases, Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month will continue to help drivers of cars, trucks and motorcycles consider the safety of all users of the road. In approximately two-thirds of fatal car versus motorcycle crashes, the driver of the car is at fault. The activities associated with this resolution will help make all users of our Nation's highways safer.

Additionally, this resolution recognizes the transportation benefits associated with motorcycling. Motorcycles are a fuel-efficient and congestion-decreasing mode of transportation, in addition to having little impact on our Nation's transportation infrastructure.

From a personal standpoint, Madam Speaker, I will tell you that a couple of years ago the youngest of our four children, my son who is now 23, he bought a used 1979 Honda motorcycle for, I think, $625. Ever since that time, I have read almost every day in the Knoxville News Sentinel something I never noticed before, and that is that almost every day there seems to be a serious motorcycle wreck and often a motorcycle fatality reported on in our local daily newspaper

I have expressed my concern to my son about trying to be as safe as possible, and I believe thus far he is. I have also noticed that the largest number of motorcycle riders now are people in their forties, fifties, and sixties. Knoxville has hosted several times something called the Honda Hoot where we have over 20,000 motorcyclists come in, most people middle aged and older. So motorcycle ridership is growing by leaps and bounds, and in many ways that is a good thing.

But this resolution calls the attention of everyone, motorcycle riders and others, to the need to try to be as safe as possible when using this form of vehicle travel. I support this resolution and hope it brings attention to motorcycle safety across our Nation's highways as well as the additional benefits of motorcycling. I urge all of my colleagues to support this resolution."

for normal cars, drivers can turn over their heads over their shoulder to see u

There's one thing to be aware of on the roads.

Never ever remain BESIDES a cager of any kind. U don't ride on his 3 or 9 o'clock and expect him to know you're there. He's supposed to know, yes... but like all SG cagers, they're blind as fuccking bats and won't see you, either for real or selectively. There are some drivers whose mentality says that bikers will always move out of the way automatically if you eat their space.

You could blast your horn, and throttle up to get ahead of him.

But the best thing to do is always be diagonally in front and to the side of them. That way they cannot miss noticing you.
