JackoHack, that vid definitely shows that **** can happen man. not so much for the one filming it, but for the other poor biker! think the other guy died right? and not the one filming it. was on some other forum some time ago.

in anycase, take a look see at the few seconds before the crash, can see the guy bobble a little then looks like he was straightening up from his lean, then a slight bob to the right and come up even more straight. then again, his revs were dropping too. can't say for sure what caused him to straighten, can only speculate.

could be a case of trying to steer into the turn and end up popping up wide! srsly, this stuff happens, ever once saw a bike on the CTE exit to amk ave1, bike was on the right side in the railings and the TP were running down the hill towards the mrt station on the left.

or could be a whole host of other things, slippery road, slipper white line, over-enthu braking, who knows.

but yerh, damned sad case for the other rider, not even his fault or anything, bo tai bo ji kena whack head on.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

imo, from the first vid, i can see that the rider actually nudges his bike abit to the right and then the bike goes towards the left. am i correct to say that, ahcaibiker?

i did try to figure how countersteering works but my mind needs to focus on the road daa. guess i can't multitask much. but it would definitely help if i accidentally go into a turn too hot. i once got into that kind of situation, nearly hit the kerb , and i TURNED the handlebar. suck thumb wobble2 and missed the kerb by a few cm!

my analysis of the vid just before contact (collision) will be, this dumb rider dunno for what rode against traffic when there is a blind corner ahead to overtake a car, after overtaking, still don want swerve back into the right lane, saw a bike oncoming, panic, tried to shift bodyweight and lean to the right to get back to his lane to avoid an collision, that backfired cos it wasnt fast enough to swerve out of the way... he wasnt counter-steering in the right way, in this situation, his what you will call "countersteer" actually make him swerve out, due to centrifugal forces and wrong application of counter-steer.

ultimately, it was a poor judgement and a stupid decision to overtake under such circumstances. if he guai guai just follow behind, overtake on straights when there is no oncoming traffic. this accident could have been avoided... sigh...:sian:

yea, exactly what i was thinking, can see that after the close shave with the other biker, the front bobbles slightly right, like the fella turning right, then suddenly bike straightens up and goes wide wide wide to the left.

when you said you TURNED the handlebar, you mean you tried to turn it to point into the curve right? and ended up going wide towards the kerb instead?

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

@knucklehead: hahaha...solid!! i wonder if they will let me off...

...my rear plates like to break and fly off (happened to both bikes)...and my front plates (on my tw200) like to break and fall off at the trails. maybe should carry spare plates just in case...hmm...

@knucklehead: now that you mentioned it, you are absolutely right. both my bikes do not have the mud guard. so i am attaching to the bottom of my number plate. one has a metal strip running down the entire length of the p-plate...so it should be secure. the other was just using cable tie...hahaha! the plate didn't last that long!

my p-plates will have to remain on till end of July! that is WAY too long.

hahaha... wait till u all see my rear p-plate " is that really a p-plate"? ;-)

3 weeks more before p-plate down!

herm actually i was referring to the first vid, that reckless rider. hees.

was making a left turn, but i was going towards the kerb so i kanchiong and turned the handlebar (hoping to make it curve inwards to the left) but instead it goes right and towards the kerb.

i dont like the idea of cable tie-ing two parts together and then the dangling part flaps with the wind. hahah .. i know some forumer here once purposely let his p-plate dangle, hanging onto 1 cable tie for dear life. then till one fine day, the p-plate decided to fly far far away.

oh, you attached metal strip to the entire length of the p-plate, then should be secure lor.. provided u dont crash into something backwards. hees.

@jtzx: is it your p-plate is just a triangle sticker?

@knucklehead: yeah, that one is very secure...been through thick and tight trails and no problem, even when the one in front was totally torn, the one behind survived with no problems. the other one on the sportbike...well, i used many cable ties...still break. oh well...am selling it so won't be too worried about the p-plate for now :)

hehe, that's what i did too, scared the **** outa myself, had to lift up one leg and sacrifice a footpeg, almost bua the wall.

that's exactly the example i was giving, about trying to steer inwards into a curve. it's natural instinct, and very bad news. helps to understand and practice countersteering to get outa such situations and not end up a statistic! of course the better option would be to approach bends and curves at a sensible speed in the first place.

haiyo. if every rider got your mentality, then i think everyone will be cursing me. coz i lane split quite slow. but i do try to give way. what bike you riding, maybe if i see you, i'll sure give way, coz thats the route i take too. :cheeky:

previous experience caused me to be abit scared to lane split fast, but then again, to stick to the full lane, i end up reaching my destination with my arms numb. then might as well i drive rather than ride.

lately whilst riding, same old , same old things. just seeing more and more cars changing lanes/overtake another car at bends. *smack forehead*

lane split slow is ok.. but if you see another bike you for quite awhile, means you are holding everybody up..

the feeling of another bike tailing behind you ain't shiok if you are safety conscious enough.. or you can simply bo-chup and hog the whole in-between lane..

oh, i also riding small bike, but lane split faster than cars..

i seriously doubt any cars can lane split, they'd split into half in rather short order

in any case, yeh, it's always annoying to get stuck behind a slow splitter, kena a few times before on the way to sch along kje after the old cck exit. now i give up and just exit old cck go by that road, nicer and twistier and no start/stops or worrying about having to dodge wayward lane-changing cars.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

Yes, annoying to being stuck behind a slow lane splitter. Especially those who totally boh chup, and going at the surrounding cars' speed! FFS, if you are not going faster than the cars, pls stay in lane and join the parade...

yday was making a right turn along west coast road. i saw the green arrow flickering before i reached the turning lane so i slowed down and stopped. apparently got one car behind me wanted to beat the flickering green arrow and was speeding damn fast. he had not enough time to stop or he will bang me and sent me flying. end up he swerved his car stopped abruptly one bike length away from me. i kept staring at him, end up he paiseh so he reversed and look at other directions to avoid my stare.

almost cant elebrate cny..o_O

is it me or wad, i noticed nowadays young chinese riders are getting lesser and lesser on the road. friends all around me are giving up riding, selling bike, buying cars/vans.

I notice it also, but i think some of them r because of girlfirend. It look more class to take them out then riding. Most of then also think it danger to ride due to some car diver. Some of them i think is their parent, finding it "not safe" for their children, as for some rich enough to tell them, their children, if they want got the licence they will buy car for them.

The heart for biking is not as strong as it use to be. I think one more reason is class 2B and 2A there not much of the choice as compare to last time, and car licence you take one time class three u can drive all the car, not like bike u still have to go through class 2B, pass wait one year 2A babaaa....

actually, I think the number of riders from different races are the same as before. it could be that as you are growing older, your friends are starting to move to other vehicular transports. but I'm sure the younger numbers would be about the same.
