tdy while riding, was wearing another helmet so nvr mount my camera..

 

nearly got bang by a car when the driver tried to exit a corner very fast but cant stick to his own lane. his car drifted pass the dbl white line and was 1/4 into my lane. right lane got another bike so i siam to the extreme right of my own lane. didnt dare to brake much because another bike was following closely behind me. driver saw me but didnt move back to his lane and still got the cheek to give me the "wtf did i do" face when i stare at him

On a lighter note, you guys can read my bone head story and have a good laugh.

 

Today while riding....

Actually should start the thread off with the last few days while not riding my DR800.

 

A few days ago, my bike for some reason could not start after being serviced by Ah Chong at Planet. And the bike got no reaction when I push the electric start button. So no choice, hot wire the bike, also cannot start, got cranking, but no ignition.

 

I have been scratching my head over this, thinking the starter relay burnt out or maybe the spark plugs fouled again. But why will the starter relay spoil when I didn't use it, plus it was fine when I last started it at Planet. If spoil should hear a click sound then no more cranking. So suspected it's the spark plugs. Took out spark plug hot wire, no spark, confirm spark plug got problem, so took out both spark plugs and cleaned them but.... after taking out the newly changed spark plugs and cleaning them again, the DR800 still couldn't start! :faint:

 

So look the bike over and saw this... ... :sian:

"THE STARTER SWITCH TURNED TO "OFF!!!!" KNNB CCB somebody itchy hand go and fiddle with my bike and left the kill switch to off!!! :angry:

Made me late for work and made me dismantle the seat to hot wire and then dirty my hands taking out the spark plugs to clean them! :mad:

 

So after putting the switch to "ON". My beautiful "Scarlet" (DR800) started on the first try, but the idling still very very low and suddenly cut off by itself, so restarted the engine, I turned the idling screw much much higher and rode it 10km to stretch "Scarlet's" long legs. Along the way, I revv her a bit after the first 3km to 4,000RPM and the speed was at 100km/hr. Full throttle a few times to burn carbon, but was surprise the pick up wasn't as responsive as when I went on my solo round malaysia trip.When I got back, I saw the exhaust pipe smoking like crazy, and saw heat waves coming off the exhaust was really worried it might catch fire!!!

 

Then when I squat down to check the rest of the bike, I saw something that made me want to face palm myself.... :sian:

I forgotten to connect the wire to the first spark plug. ie; I was running my "Scarlet" on only 1 spark plug just now during the whole 10km ride! :slapforehead::slapforehead::slapforehead:

No wonder the idling so slow, acceleration no up to par with my normal days riding and exhaust got smoke come out! :lol:

 

So I reconnected the wire and restarted the bike and VRrrooom! The RPM straight away jump to above 2,000 RPM :eek: Quickly adjusted the idling to 1,500RPM and off the engine. :sweat:

 

When I got home I took a heck of a long time to wash my hands clean again...

 

Honestly while reading your post halfway through earlier on, I've already predicted that you've forgot about your kill switch.... Nice to share btw, stay sober! :)

Always got exciting stuff when you never bring your cam. Its a sign to remind you to always use it. Doubt anyone would want to end up in the hospital and not knowing what exactly happened and why. Only reason I could think of why the driver gave you that look is sadly because of your gender. I have stared at such drivers before and even to the point of knocking on their windows but all of them just kept looking straight as though they could not hear the knocking sound. Ride defensively. :cool:

just curious.. do u still turn on ur high beam while lane splitting behind another rider?

 

yes, i turn on high beam regardless. as long as it's bright in the day, i turn on high beam. more noticeable. night time back to low beam.

Was on a slope exiting to a main road, right after that exit is a traffic light, light was red, in front of me was a yellow box. Mofo horned at me eventhough after the turn, he'll be in the yellow box anyway, I don't get what's the rush, I don't like to enter when there's traffic on the adjacent lane anyway, unless bopian. Gave him an earful of my exhaust and went into the next petrol station after the light turn green.

 

Some drivers are so impatient.

i encountered an impatient and rude driver (uncle in late 40s) 3 yrs ago just because the sensor/machine cant detect my IU and i had to contact a staff thru the intercom while holding up the rest of the vehicles. uncle hurled vulgarities at me because he was just behind me and he was late in fetching his daughter. i confronted the uncle aft i park my bike and he eventually lost the argument. in the end, he said "as a lady i shld be more gentle.. blah blah blah".

Most drivers actually. I remember travellin to work along Changi Coast and the traffic was held up by a big lorry infront followed by other small lorries on both lanes. The driver was honking and shouted for me to speed up tailgating me all the way. I shouted at him to fly if he cannot wait and also asked if he is blind and cannot see that the lorries are holding up the traffic. :cool:

When I switch back to lane 1, this driver high-beamed me.

 

What is wrong with him? I overtook the car with much clearence and I was travelling at much faster speed than the car. It was around six in the morning.

Maybe he forgot to turn on headlight. Then as u pass him, realise dun ve e light shining on ur bike. Then turn on lo. An he installed HID.

 

Or maybe just accidently press e flash. Usually if i wan flash pple i will do it multiple times to make sure theres no misunderstanding tat it could be a accidental flash.

 

Ps: now i also ride with high beam in e day. Today 1st day. Saw a few drifting cars tat stop drifitng when i got near. Hope this is a good way to make ourselves more visible.

I'm certain that it is not accidental. Not at all.

The driver had the headlight on all the time. The highbeam turned on immediately after I overtake the car.

 

Furthermore, I don't like people who use highbeam all the way.

I'm unable to check my rear view with my mirrors because of those irritating glare from the mirrors.

Sure, that vehicle got my attention. Other than that, I can't see anything else clearly! Even during the day.

 

Danielling, don't assume too much. I know how accidental flash looks like.

Yah some drivers i notice want to whack 1st lane all the way so they high beam (some wif HID even worse), basically pissing ppl off into gg into lane 2. A**holes! Effective for them but dats just being inconsiderate.

dunno why lately ( only the last 2 years ), more drivers have a very arrogrant "atas" attitude ( probably due to huge rise in COE, when COE was cheaper in as recent as 2009, drivers more friendly ).

 

i have seen some drivers flash their highbeams angrily with their loud noisy power cars & zoom past me, only to hog the centre of 2 lanes about more than 50m & long long way BEFORE a corner ( on the straight!!! ), jam brake & go round the corner so slow that our cubs overtake them, very cool ah? Mr. F-1 wannabe driver? alas...stomp feet Tin Pei Ling style..." i dunno what to say?"

 

drive like that can impress the China KTV a-mois in your passenger seat meh? hahaha...:D

good for you! effective right? the high beam morning trick has saved me a few close encounters.

The car was only at my tail when I just overtake him. The rest of the time after that, can't see the car already.

 

I was just talking about his highbeam. It has nothing to do with me being able to or not able to shake him off.

 

For the record, the driver didn't highbeam all the way. Just highbeam when I overtake.

 

Anyway, my bike's FC not "power"... Is lousy bike, that's why lousy FC.

Same case as Silent Hunter. Was at Raffles Place and attempted to start my engine. Got cranking sound, but refused to start. Since mine scooter. Don't think can do much too. I was like WTH, going to be late already. Tried a few more times still cannot. Then I checked all the switches on the bike. Wondering why I did not turn off the left signal. Then realised that the Red switch is set to off as well. Not only that, my high beam was activated, and then I finally realised some mischief going on.

 

RED switch off, high beam on, left signal on.

 

Did an all round inspection, but nothing suspicious. Who would be so bo liao...

 

i think everyone got their 'unique' experiences with the kill-switch on their bikes.. :p

Just make sure that the high-beam isn't on when behind other bikes while lanesplitting. Once had an annoying bugger with his highbeam on, damned glaring in the mirrors whenever wanna check back. There were other bikes in front, couldn't pull away.Wanted to be aware of his following distance or whether he wanted to pull past, but totally cannot judge distance nor movement.

 

Another annoyance are the fellas with unsilenced/tong exhausts whilst lanesplitting slowly. Any idea how fecking irritating your cool-sounding illegal exhaust can be to the rider behind? Once had to follow this slowly-splitting kup with pillion all the way North on CTE in evening traffic. Wearing FF, tailing a good 10m++ behind. Still can get earache from the brap-brap-brapping. Especially in the tunnel. b****y uncomfortable.
