well personally, if you're in for speed, performance and thrills, the phantom isn't for you.

for me, the bike is wonderful for getting from point A to point B, it's relaxing to ride, it's convenient cos of all the boxes...all these points make it ideal for me :cheer:

it's also v cheap to maintain, and quite worry-free (after the initial part where i had to change quite a few things left over from the past owner).

if i had to choose all over again, i'd still go for the phantom :D

of course i'd be lying if i said i didn't envy the other bigger faster more powerful bikes on the road hee hee... but all in good time ya?

u install side boxes to protect you in case of a crash?!

that's so weird...anyway sideboxes affect stability when you are cornering...your handlebars shake like loco and you have to know how and when to shift your weight accordingly.

does it? I still bua my kar tar like no diff lei?

free hand also...

My handlebar dont shake and i still ride the same way.

oh,

eo means engine oil. phantom gotta change eo quite often compared to other bigger bikes... about every 2000 km to 2500km.

low ground clearance means it's close to the ground, as opposed to a scrambler for eg

top-end means er, top speed.

:p

If you really want to learn more about bikes, try getting this book.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0760317453.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Highly recommended for newbies and good tips for old birds as well.

Covers eveyrthing from different type of bikes, components, maintenance, engine configuration, setups, riding gear, what to look for when buying a bike, and riding tips. Lots of great pictures too.

Also, try to join for the next outing. There's only so much you can learn without actually seeing it for yourself.

But no test rides! :D

but how can i join outing without a bike correct.sianz.when i get bike i surely join u all.proberly youngest?btw i staying in yishun 300++...hehe...

kuku, got tatoo got tatoo lor...... nobody will look down on you.... can check out the northern knights thread, this few nights keeps on going mega hits, :faint:

Phantom will always been my first choice 2b bike.

economical for students like me.

But i got addicted to long trips, and always freq up north, upgrading is always the best option for the rider to enjoy more comfort and go further with higher engine endurance rather than spending my time sourcing and posting riddiculous question in the forum like 'How-to-mod-my-bike-to-be-faster?' , 'How-to-get-more-power-on-my-bike.?' and etc

I am not trying to say phantom no endurance or power.

There are quite a few phantom riders(150 & 200) who have crossed the border to thai . Its actually depend more on the rider's endurance and determination itself more than the bike.

But I do agree that phantom has its disadvantage also especially at m'sia highway whereby speedlimit and the traffic is much more higher than sg.

For SG riding, I have no complains at all.

fuel consumption ? 35km++/l still hiam meh ?

1box not enuff? then put 3 lor. also not ugly. :lol:

riding posture? ka kui kui... relac relac leh...

reliability ? i think almost every carpark u can find a TA. that'll answers the question..

Even till now, i somehow still miss the comfort of my phantom :cry:

People like weiz and hart (correct me if i misquoted you guys) have also told me that they can't wait to change bike because they feel the machine limits them.

So please please please consider again and again as you have plenty of time. I'm not discouraging u from taking a phantom. I'm discouraging you from jumping to a premature decision; you'll save a load of cash if you get a bike that ultimately suits your riding style as you develop, and not one that turns out to be a machine that inhibits you and you're unhappy with it and change a bike, wasting money.

ya i just cant wait to change my bike but somehow i still like riding a phantom.

bike may limits me but i have tried to push it to its limit and i am happy with that.

i think its hard to understand ur own riding style until u ride a bike after a period of time.

for me, i find phantom is comfortable but lack of top speed and power plus the handling. i wouldnt know it until i ride my bike and try to play with it in corners and straight roads.

maybe, i get a kips and i got handling, top speed and power but lack of comfort! at that time, i might think that phantom suits me more.

riding style may change from time to time also.

i dunno whether u all have these kind of feeling, but i have some days which i want a more relax and slow ride and some days , i wan to go fast n thrilled. so maybe getting 2 bikes of 2 different style is a wiser choice haha!

phantom can use the same technique also.

once u throw ur arse, cg is lower, cornering at high speed is more stable also.

but ur kata gonna suffers! phantom really have low clearance especially now using a lower profile tires!

New question:

Do riders have to dismount when topping up fuel at all petrol stations in Singapore?

    Caltex --> ???
    Esso --> ???
    Mobil --> ???
    Shell --> Yes
    SPC --> ???

I have only ever refueled twice in Singapore since I got my bike in April. Both at Shell and I know that Shell stations require bikers to dismount. With the incessant jam at the Causeway now, I intend to patronise Singapore petrol stations a bit more...

Shell is so unfriendly?!!? I thought most of the others have similar regulations...

Time to use my HSBC cards and patronise Caltex stations then.

Thanks for the quick reply, fleaz! :smile:
