Hi die2self777,

I m not going to answer the 1st 2 question as there are already expert doing that. But for your 3rd question, I am the expert as that is part of my job.

There are a few things you need to consider before purchasing PDA-GPS.

1) Where are you going to place the system while riding?

2) How sensitive you like your system to be?

3) What is your budget?

For a decent system with SiRF Star III picking up to a maximum of 20 satellite will cost you around $200 for the GPS Receiver. The PDA software and the map is free where you can get it from http://www.malsingmaps.com. Make sure you contribute to the forum once you know how to use it.

The system is sensitive to a proximity of 1~5 meters. That is consider very good. I believe you might have got a PDA for GPS on it, den you might need to pay for the map, else we are all using GARMIN OEM.

Now come to the most crucial part. Where are you going to place the system? If you are driving, then reading and driving is never a problem. But it will be very dangerous if you try to ride and read the GPS at the same time. Safety is critical. For me, I got tank bag with transparent pocket. I place the system in the transparent pocket. If I need to read my position, I will just pull one corner to read my position.

REMEMBER: IT IS NOT WISE TO READ AND RIDE AT THE SAME TIME. SAFETY IS CRITICAL.

If you ask my opinion, is it useful. To me, it is, because I use it for touring up to Malaysia and at the same time for my job as well. Therefore, getting familiar with the system is part of my job. If you have spare cash and wanted to know more about GPS. Get the cheapest mean. I can help you with the system if you want. Just PM me. I can show you how it works.

Man, you are super helpful!!! Honestly i didn't expect such a comprehensive reply... Thanks for making my noobie experience alot more pleasant!

This forum should have a rating for Q&A personnel haha you'd get full marks

Thanks for your comments.

I don't really deserve it as there are many PKs here deserve more. Nonetheless, I am happy to find someone with the same interest as me.

Try meeting up sometime and I can share more with you either on riding, GPS or GIS.....:thumb:

I really cannot remember the Phantom Tyre price already. In my opinion, getting Metzeler or Pirelli tyres a bit overkill for Phantom leh.....But they are good tyres. Remember to check the Year of the Tyre if you are getting Metzeler or Pirelli...Try to get Year 2006 one. The properties of the tyre will change if it has been left not use for some time.....

Greetings all,

A new one here, just purchase a TA200 from another forumer here, but thats another story for another time... ;)

i want 2 ask,

for used phantom, when i want to send in for check-up, should i go 2 mechanics or vicom inspection center? should i be concern about pricing difference?

is there any tune-up i could do, DIY or mechanics, to improve my bike performance? (not in term of speed, more on pick-up/acceleration).

Thanx in advance for your help.

Brother Byon, welcome to the club.

Rain coat is very impt especially this few days. Follow by street Directory. For me, I don't pillion...so 1 helmet is good enough for me....

How can i bring my guitar while riding?

You need to get the guitar bag that you can use the earloops to hang like the bagpack behind you. The guitar should be pointing upwards....

Ride safely...don't speed. Get use to the bike first. Phanton is slidely off balance by nature. Therefore, try not to take sharp corners, the bike will skid easily.....

I always have these inside my box.

1. Photocopy of log card and insurance

2. Rain coat

3. Plastic bag for wet rain coat

4. Parking coupons

5. Pen

6. Towel and tissue paper (Usually to dry my bike after the rain, or to wipe grease.)

7. Extra helmet

8. Chain lube (I spray every now and then.)

9. Street directory

I put items 1, 3, 4, 5 and 9 inside a ziplock bag so that they won't get wet. Sometimes water seeps into my box.

Mind you, my box is only 33l yet I can squeeze so many things in. The manual says maximum load is 3kg.. I think I probably exceeded by a bit but for the past 6 months, nothing happen.

Sometimes when I bring my guitar out, I will tighten the bag straps to my body as tight as possible. I usually ride from Bt Panjang to Expo (my church is there), and the wind pressing against your guitar on PIE is no joke!

Sorry. Just curious.

Everytime you park, the water is affected by the harsh conditions in the day and the cool of the night.

Will it get contaminated? Will bacteria breed?

Hi PKers

Earlier there was threads going on about forks/seals having scratches and blahblah. And it's expensive to replace one ($200).

Where can i exactly locate the fork? and what are the areas i need to look out for inorder to find a leak?

Secondly, are there anything i need to do inorder to prevent a leak?

Thanks!

Hi guys! You've been very helpful. I've some more queries though:

1. Are there any knights out there who have PDA/GPSr mounts on their handlebars to aid navigation?

2. Is there any way to make the exhaust (pipe?) thingy right under the bike shiny again?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone,

Been riding Phantom TA200 For about one month. Wanna ask is there any lubrication reccomended for the chain? I heard from my brother that you should lubricate your chain every 100Km. Is that neccessary?? Also, a technician told me that to remove the rust from the chrome of my bike just use a metal gauze and scrub till the rust come out then protect it with oil can le. Will my chrome get scratched? Just wanna confirm b4 i do anything crazy.. hahaz!

Thanks alot...
