if you are spraying white in this case white is already your base color.....the reason why we need a base color is because primer is GREY and if you intend to say spray yellow...you need a base white 1st then apply yellow so that the color stands out...

however if you intend to spray white or black..then there is no need for base colors as white and black are the basic colors.

Grey primers are easily available at any shops that sells spraycans..juz ask for it...as for application techniques...i think if you read the discussion its very clear we have masters from all parts of the world sharing their kung fu here...so do refer to earlier kung fu instructions...

good luck!

Heya forum_user,

So can i say for the perfect paint job, I have to sand off the old one, then spray the primer, then the paint colour on areas that need colour, and then finish it off with lacquer?

i used kangaroo paints for my bike..can be bought at mustafa. its especially for automotive and industry but in a spray can. and make sure u sand properly and not half hearted. make it rough and then finish off with a smooth sand paper...those number 1000 is enuff for finishing. primer is optional. and give substantial time between coats. my method is just first 2 coats of paint..then laqcuer , paint ,lqcuer, paint and lastly laqcuer.

Not difficult..Just that a different technique than applyin paint is needed to apply the lacquer evenly..:cheeky:

try using thinner n painting brush to remove the old paint completely... it's like how the wash the motor parts in the motor tiam with petrol... jus soap the part u need to paint in the thinner for a while n den use the painting brush to wash away the paint... remember to use a tray... i think those aluminium tray use for buffet quite good... anyway if the part are plastic try a few drip of thinner on the plastic first... see whether will corrode the plastic or not... after washing the paint off den use sand paper to smoothen the surface...

Try borrowing an air compressor and airbrush kit from a friend. Then just buy the paint and lacquer for airbrush use. Will get a much much better finish.

I used Pylox before on a 125Z; the paint cracked under the hot sun after about 6-8 months.

Thanks! Didn't think of the useful properties of thinner. I almost wanted to sand off my paint but I think I'll give yours a try first.

Thinner might take a tad longer, especially if your current paint job is stock. Try paint remover if the thinner isn't working fast enough. Just be careful none of it gets onto your rubbers.

hi just sharing some knowledge, if u use paint remover be thorough when cleaning cos if it stains it will eats up yr hardware, if u use spray can, starts spraying b4 yr part and stop after it. when completely dry up use the rubbing compound to smoothen the surface evenly and wash with soup after it. the surface will be smooth and ready for the lacquer job. theres a thing called PU for auto which is clear and comes in 2 parts, 1 part hardener and 1 part clear lacquer mix them as 1 pt hardener to 2 parts of lacquer evenly ,but only if u hv a compressor . paint shop use those. if u spraying indoors, try putting yr spray parts under a spotlight just like oven spray paint shop does. oh yes if u wanna try the PU, it cost arnd $80++ or more depends shop and can get it at most hardware paint dealers.

Be safe, ride safe...and live to ride another day....

Yes,if u painting bright colors,as for DIY u can use white as a base color,or even gold spray...i diy sprayed my rims, did 1 with normal base paint white other base paint gold, the main color was black, the 1 with the base paint gold ,the outcome was kind of shinier compared to the white base paint....

if you are spraying white in this case white is already your base color.....the reason why we need a base color is because primer is GREY and if you intend to say spray yellow...you need a base white 1st then apply yellow so that the color stands out...

i highly recommend kangaroo paint in spray cans..bought 1 can black at mustafa and diy on a spare helmet... sand down to the core and coated with grey primer.

i did read ince here in the forum one experience painter posted "surface preparation is 80% and actual spray painting and finishing is 20%" so its really mportant to prep the surface

Am not a lacquer expert..For I dunno what it actually means..BUt the CLEAR spray is lacquer..Lacquer is just lacquer..Only different types and different grades..There is also FLAT LACQUER..It doesn't give out the glossy look after being applied..:cheeky:
