Zed, you brighten my day. You guys aim to the opposite

Doesn't the cam chain tensioner come out sound like tick tick tick?

the tensioner is a spring that presses on a plastic holder which compresses the chain within your cam. when it is not strong anymore it's like riding your bike with a loose chain. got the clicking/ticking sound.

just see parts manual for more info. mine is due for replacement too. will be getting it done on the 8th.

Our dear boys, Zong Ren (Cpt.ZR) and Willie (xbfish), will be gracing the land they call Pulau Tekong in June, where they will morph into men... or so they say. In light of this glorified passageway to manhood, I would like to gather all CBR-ians for a farewell dinner in their honour at Denga Bay. Details are as follows:

Event: Farewell dinner at Denga Bay

Date: 30th May 2009, Saturday (tentative)

Time: 7pm onwards

Meet-up point: TBA

Things to bring:

- Bike and helmet

- A set of rain suit for yourself (and your pillion, if applicable) in case of undesirable weather.

The recommended attire as follows:-

1) Jeans.

2) Covered shoes.

3) T-shirt & jacket / long sleeve shirts. (No singlets allowed)

4) Gloves.

5) Full face helmet.

Do note that the journey there could be cold and the journey back COLDER! So the above mentioned attire is best to keep warm.

3) Zed

4) chris, cos now he tio tai chee cannot post. posting on behalf.

Guys I maybe consider selling my bike off. Very frustrated with my bike.

Did an overhaul of this bike liao. The idling RPM still fluctuate but not worst than before. Ah chong said that the previous owner go bore the carb to a big hole so that this bike can be used for racing.

Other than this, when I am traveling for very long, there is a tick tick tick sound coming out from the engine. This is the same problem that I faced in the past too.

I am seriously very sick and tired of all these. I spent near to $500 in doing this bike and it just disappoint me. :sian:

Please advise me...

does the fluctuating RPM still result in engine die off when left idling?

if not, just accept it as 'normal'.

i got a feeling that the modified carb may be the cause of the high FC also.

if this issue is really affecting u, can always try to source ard for 2nd hand carb. or if $$ not an issue, get new carb.

as for the tick tick sound, mine sometimes will have it too.

when on the road waiting for traffic light or when bike in motion, the sound cant be heard. usually hear it only after i have parked my bike.

i feel that as long as the tick sound is not due to loose cam chain or tensioner worn out, then it is ok. when the bike was being done up at planet, i trust that the mechs have already replaced what needs to be replaced. the tick sound may also be partially contributed by the moving piston or other engine parts, which is normal. the piston sound will be quite consistent and regular as compared to the random ticking u hear in the youtube vid u posted.

if talk in terms of engine noise, there are easily other more noisy engines out there.

my advise is at least wait till u complete the running in phase before u make any decision. the engine should run more consistently after running in. since planet identified carb as the issue, fix it if u have the cash to. if not, try to live w/ it.

why go through all that hassle when it's less than $30 to replace?

also, what may work on your bike (used), may not work on his bike.

Zed, a sudden thought just came to mind.

If perfectionism is man's 2nd weakness according to u, then what is man's 1st weakness? Just a wild guess....... Temptation?

we've discussed this before.

we'll talk more in person.
