lets put it this way, for example, you bought a brand new 04" R1 and as per usual, they will come up with an improved version the following year, most buyers of the 04 R1 will feel abit wasted because if they can tahan for another year, they can afford the improved version which is almost of the same price and the same thing happens again the following year. maybe there can be a way to trade in the 04 R1 for 05 R1 which deducts the amount you paid and carry on from there.

R1 can be considered one of the most expensive bike for Yamaha and they keep on improving and unless you're filty rich, you will have to wait for years to get new models. or we can limit the improvision to maybe 3 years for new models, which means that the lnets say 04 model is the new one, they have to wait til 07 to launch a improved model. this is what happens to Home football jersey, they have to wait for 3 years before they can launch new Home jerseys.

this is kind of troublesome but i think this should be the way producers can do so buyers will not spend 20++k on a new bike and feel heart pain the next year, this is what happens to some 03 R1 owners, buy already then next year come out underseat version. they can deal with the traded-in bikes like what they do with the unsold bikes or they can melt down the parts and produce new parts so as to cut down on raw materials. sometimes you can see quite a number of old R1s in shop and they just rust there, this can also be a way to help bikeshops on getting rid of unwanted bikes.

Nothing to lose.

i'm sorry, but i see plenty of flaws in wat ur asking for. i of coz understand the dilemma u portray; i myself planning on getting a c2 bike soon yet i have a nagging suspicion the particular bike i eyeing gonna come out heavily revised next year.

foremost, though, is that one cant argue against the idea that price is determined by demand and supply. when a new model is released, the price of the old model is reduced. changing ur 1 year old bike to the newer model is fine; but there is nothing u can do regarding the price u have to fork out in doing so. the market determines the price. when u sell back the 1yr old bike, setting aside unscrupolous dealers, you will only get wat ur bike is worth. hence the new bike u wanna get will only deduct based on such a deal. and if u say u see old r1's rusting, it means they're actually worth even less, coz ppl not buying. u get wat its worth, nothing anyone can do bout it.

secondly, u cant possibly impose any restrictions on progress or technology. i think rapid revisions of models is a good thing, when u consider the overall big picture of bike technology rather than merely the small pic of owners like us suffering the effects of quick depreciation. manufacturers will always wanna release better and better models, and we benefit from the rapid increase in technology. would it be better to have slow progress, and still be riding the '98 R1 today? ironic that one would yearn for the very latest yet prefer progress to be slower.

furthermore, even in terms of price, it may not be good thing. just look at ducati. they do precisely what u asking for, and a 2nd hand duke996 costs as much as a brand new jap equivalent. 'italian' may be wat keeps their first hand price high, but 'slow progress' is wat keeps their 2nd hand prices high as well. u may not be able to afford changing a new bike every year, but dun forget, some of us cant even afford a 1st hand bike.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Hugo > The open class superbike and supersports bikes, the 600 and 1000cc class, if you havn't noticed yet, is the most competitive and most exciting amongst all the classes of motorcycles.

The manufacturers, the Japanese "big four" Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are constantly coming up with newer designs and incorporating better and better technology and exotic parts into their machines.

Like computers, this category of bikes can get out of fashion very quickly. Your brand new K5 GSXR1000 will be yesterday's news before you renew your insurance next year, when Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki start making their updates to their 04 models.

In my opinion, the problem lies in the buyer. We all want the newest, the best, the fastest and latest in superbikes. However, when a newer model is launched, some of us benefit from the "stock clearance" of the older bikes. For example, i'm sure many of the bike shops are trying to clear the older GSXR-1000 K4s from their showrooms. The old bike is still a very good bike, and the discounts means good deals, if the buyer doesn't mind not having the latest of course :thumb:

1987 ---> Yamaha FZR1000

the bike stayed practically the same for nearly ten years, even tho in 1996 yamaha renamed this bike as the YZF-1000R Thunderace. the final fzr/thunderace was of coz different from the first fzr1000, but the progress was not dramatic.

1998 ---> '98 spec Yamaha YZF-R1

This was the dawn of the new era, sparked by the release of Honda's original CBR900-RR Fireblade just a couple of years earlier. the technology race has begun.

2002 ---> '02 spec Yamaha YZF-R1

tho the model name is the same, we know the model is heavily revised at this point, and not just the sharper fairings.

2004 ---> '04 spec Yamah YZ-R1

no need to say. major revision.

2007 ---> Probably.

look at the dates again. lets say we want yamaha to make a major revision only every say 7 years like it were for the fzr/thunderace. the first R1 was released in '98...... this year we would only just see the sharp fairing '02 spec, and the underseat '04 spec would only be released in 2012. u wouldn be riding the '04 R1 anyway, and neither would anyone else.

in any event, you cant impose a timetable on the manufacturers. i'm just trying to point out that if you could, and u wanted them to slow down progress, u wouldn be riding the '04 R1 either. back to square 1. u cant have ur cake and eat it too.

or mebbe u'd be happy knowing that if now u only riding the '02 spec R1, and u cant ride the '04 R1 then u dont want other ppl to be unable to ride the '04 R1 either. come on buddy, when u bought the '02 R1, there were '00 spec R1 owners who felt the same dislike towards you.

but in this way, when you finally save up money to change bike again in 5-10 years time, imagine what bike would be available for you. we dont want the '04 spec R1 to be top-of-the-line-latest-from-yamaha in 5-10 years time now would we? no, we want a fantastic 2010 futuristic R1 to be available to us in 5 years time.

its all to our benefit brudder. pissed in the short term, but much higher gains in the long term.

Competition is stiff in the open class categories. Companies are trying to outdo each other every year and thus the revision of the bikes almost every year.

Its also benefits the manufacturers as they can sell more bikes everytime they push out a new revision. Its just business as usual.
