That's what i gathered too. But how is Magic in terms of handling and stability as compared to wave? u know?

Can't compare to wave as I never rode a wave before. Handling and stability better than the Honda Phantom I used to ride. No problems during tight corners and such. No skidding feeling while braking on rainy road( of coz I still haven't the chance to jam brakes hard on wet road and prefer not have the chance). Also I have only hit 80km/h at most as I can't push it during breaking in period... as it is, I have exceeded the recommended 60km/h max speed for 1st 1000km.

Anyway, the exterior form of the wave and magic look almost the same except the rear. So I doubt there will be any significant difference.

Thanks for the detailed info NorthPole. I'm actually torn between choosing the wave and magic, but i'm leaning more towards the magic cause they are not as many on the road... but one worry i have is will getting spares (if accident or anything lidat)and all be difficult? or they use the same as wave? In terms of reliability honda has made a name for it's self. But dunno bout SYM though. A little worried about this part though.

On top of that magic(3300 OTR) is like 600 cheaper then a wave(3900 OTR). Probably the cheapest cub around rite?

I dun worry coz equipment like tires, spark plugs, wheels etc are all purchased across brands. All of these are defined by specs. Like tires, is defined by size etc.

Engine wise, Magic using Honda EX5 engine. And the fact that SYM is a budget Taiwan brand suggest 2 things to me... the parts should be quite affordable... quality should be at least decent. Of coz I haven't got the opportunity to purchase parts and is thus totally kuku on this... Maybe the motordiams will try to tok us and I would have to ride up to Vietnam to change parts cheaply. Anyway, the posters in the Magic thread say parts are plentiful and cheap. And can use honda parts. Dunno accurate or not one.

Today I can say Magic handling is solid. Was forced to jam brake on wet( drizzling) road coz of orange light. Bo skid at all and I installed a large box. Paiseh... I still phobia from my Phantom... fractured my hand coz it skid happily and I buanged. Magic's stock Yokohama tire quite good.

Really you should go look at the Wave and Magic side by side. Front view near identitical. Rear view, the Magic confirmed more chio. I bought a Red/Black Magic coz the red really nice and go well with common Red/Black storage box. Personally, I prefer the Magic's dashbox to the Wave's. But all these are a matter of personal taste and you should look at both and see which one more chio.

Handling and fuel consumption wise, both are extremely similar I believe. Today, I topped up my tank to the brim with 1.7l of petrol after speedometer show 90km milage increase. I am really enjoying the fuel economy of this cub. My previous TZM and Phantom drink petrol like water like dat. 1.7l probably will give me 40km at most. Some Wave users in another thread say they 60km/l( Wave I) some say 40km/l( Wave S). Mostly due to riding style difference i think. Safe to say the Wave's FC also in the >50km/h range.

One warning about the seat of the Magic. the rear portion of the seat( for pillion) is raised by a "bump" to divide the seat into "rider" portion and "pillion" portion. On the Wave, the seat is flat thru out. I prefer a flat design as I could sit further back( middle of seat). Of coz seats are changable but they cost $$$.

Yep. GREAT price.

:thumb:

I have to give it to him for negotiating a good bargin.

This is certainly better than the 3.5k for the spoked wheel one from bike production which doesn't include a box or IU.

Funny thing is that the ppl who own Mah also own this shop yet the prices are VERY different. They win at both ends of the price range so either way they make a sale. haha

Yeah but you always have to remember the resale value come the time you want/have to sell it.

He paid 3.7k OTR. But I know you can get the spoked wheel version for 3.5k OTR (for age 30 and above) at Bike Production on Serangoon Rd.

I stopped by a traffic light at Bukit timah this late afternoon beside this pizza delivery bro. He was riding a green magic. I asked him bout the OTR price and comments on the bike. To my horror he told me he paid 4k for it on the road (i was thinking poor chap).. he did sae he tio tok. He went on to say he regretted getting magic. If given a choice again he would have gotten wave. Before i could ask y the light turned green.

Come to think of it, it's one of the first time i've actually noticed a magic on the road.. Pretty rare i must say.

Which is a little puzzling. I tot magic quite ok as per what NorthPole had said? Hmm.. choices choices choices.... i'm lost..

Like I said, I only got the Magic for a week only and I only gave comments on handling and stabilty to you( never said anything about reliability since not qualified to say anything). Maybe Magic give problems after a while or maybe he got a lemon? More likely however since any problem would be due to engine and the Magic is using the well used Honda EX5 engine... maybe he regret tio tok and the 4K is more than enuff for a Wave( 125cc instead of 110cc)?

If you decide to go with the Wave, suggest you get the version with sport rim as I talked to a chap on Wave today and he told me that he had to change to a sport rim after getting punctures( thus unable to get to repair on the bike immed) twice in half the year he own his Wave. Another thing is that he claim that he "float" sideway when big vehicles pass him. I told him how can it be as I never experienced such a thing on my Magic... he say the Magic heavier... This claim I dun really believe as I never "float" on my 2 previous bikes at not-fast speed. The only time I "floated" was when I was trying to test my TZM top speed... "floated" at 160km/h and dare not go faster liao( thus never knowing the top speed of my TZM). The aerodymanics of both bike same one and difference in weight can't be much at all so I believe his story is bullshit.

Conclusion, get the Wave if you are worried about unproven reliability of the Magic. But get the sport rim version, you dun want to be stuck in the middle of a deserted stretch of PIE.

Anyway, is there any Wave rider around who would like to exchange rides? I wanna test ride a Wave and you can test ride my Magic. :)

Just be aware of all the charges in buying a bike.

Onec you know the details, then you will not 'feel' being cheated by motoshop.

One way is to learn from here.

The other way is to actually buy one bike and learn the hard way.

Cheapest is difficult to define.

But if you go Hua Chin at Midview building at bukit batok area...you will be getting a honest deal.

Would getting a bike from Mah be recommended? Or bike Pro still the best? Honestly i've only got quotes from BP.

Mah have good service but usually their prices are a little higher. Anyway, as usual with bike shops in Singapore the price you are quoted depends on your face and how blur/rich/poor/stupid you look.

Send 10 different people into the same shop and you are likely to get 10 different prices.
