Hi, I got my licence revoked last July. Plan to take 2B again and then get a Wave-I. For insurance wise, is my riding experience considered as 0yrs? Also, do I need to display P-plate?

Topic : another newbie looking for help...

Description : Nil

Argh typed out a long post and lost it before posting! Okay here goes again:

Hi, sorry in advance for the long and probably quite ignorant-sounding post. I really don't know anything about bikes, though I'm very willing to learn. I've tried to read through the stuff on the forum but there's so much that my head is spinning!

Just some background, I used to own a bike that I bought used from a store that has since closed down. I strongly feel that I was cheated in the deal, as the bike I got had numerous problems that weren't easily fixed. But because I really didn't know much back then and hadn't heard of this site, I guess I was asking for it.

Long story short, I'm looking now to get another bike. I'm probably going to go for a Honda Wave, as it's one of the few bikes I can ride comfortably at my height  Judging from what I've read on the forums, I think I will probably be going with the wave-i.

I'm a student, so money's a bit of a concern for me. It would be best if I could get a used bike, but 1) I don't know sh** about bikes, 2) I'm young and female 3) I don't speak Mandarin very well; so I don't hold out much hope for my getting a good deal. I would rather pay more for a new bike than get cheated again.

Anyway, my questions now are these: where would you guys recommend or not recommend for me to go to? What is a reasonable price to expect? Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post names of stores here. Right now I don't even know what the price range the bike or even its COE should be.

Also, any other tips/information would be greatly appreciated. Buying a bike is just the first step! I can't wait to start customising it after I get it and learning how to take care of it  If anyone is willing to offer help, I don't mind meeting up in the West for coffee (my treat!) or something so I can pick your brains on things, I really do have lots of questions and don't know where else to start looking for help!

Thanks in advance...

Hi there, look no more, if you want the cheapest deal in town and dont want to get ripped off, go to Bike Production at 610 Serangoon Road, their business number is 63922555.

They have the cheapest and most reasonable deal you can get, just that the boss is abit "cold". When u go u'll know what i mean. But there buy bike is the cheapest from my knowledge.

Go for a 1st hand Yamaha SPARK 135~ And join our lovely Spark Gang~ We have few lady spark riders around too~ Feel free to ask~

1st hand should cost you only $3.7k machine price, excluding insurance and IU price.

If you wonder whats spark, my signature is a spark. Cheers~

You mean they've stopped selling new wave-i bikes?

Heh I'm not from business lah... but keep guessing. It's one of the typical "bad at Mandarin" faculties... What do you mean by 4Cs??

The problem is, I don't even know where the stores are...

Yup I'm off my probation, have been for quite a while. You're right, I would much rather pay less for a used bike, but the thing is, I really don't want it to end up like the last time. I think unless I make really good friends with a mechanic or store owner in the near future, I'll end up buying new :(

Oh and I just assumed that I needed to speak Mandarin well because the last time I owned a bike, I had quite a bit of trouble at the stores! Most of the people I encountered spoke Hokkien etc and a couple of times I just gave up and let my friend do the talking for me :p

Hey, thanks for the lead! To tell you the truth, I haven't considered a Spark at all. Not sure why... just didn't cross my mind. And I don't really know the difference between the Spark and the Wave or the rest of the cubs (not just in terms of technical details, but like, in terms of practical differences).

So it seems from the replies that you guys think I should get a wave-S instead? I get the impression that wave-Is are not easily available...

Heh to let you all know my considerations (in order of priority):

Must be low enough for me to ride comfortably - I'm 154 - 155cm and I had a bit of trouble riding the bikes at BBDC when I was learning to ride :o

Shouldn't be TOO expensive 'cos I'm looking to pretty it up once I get it... but I am quite resigned to having to buy a new one already. Like I said before, I was really quite scarred by my first experience buying a bike.

Errrrr... actually that's about all I can think of! Haha. Those 2 things are what led me to the cub forum lah. And I was completely sold once I saw all the pictures of your bikes 'cos some of the bikes are damn pretty!

Yup and thanks again to everyone for all the help and offers to help, I really appreciate each and every one of the replies. Though technically I'm not part of the club yet seeing as I don't own a bike :p But hopefully soon!
