Shangri-La and Yunnan Province (China)

Group Travelling Speed:

Average 120km/hr

 

Round-Trip Coverage:

approximately 4500km on bike, 3500km on trains or trucks

** This long haul ride is for frequent riders only(not for weekenders & recent reborn bikers).

Most of the day we will travel early morning except no ride day, riding speed at average of 120km/h, your bike's tank range must be at least 200km+- and you are able to endurance ride daily (over 6 hours daily). You need to have general knowledge of your bike and be able to rectifiy own minor problems.

 

Room Cost:

> Estimate would be S$600 for the trip (per room, hence, if sharing, provide 50%)

 

China Agent Cost:

> Details upon first meeting (this is the largest expense and the reason why China borders are NOT full with motorcycles)

 

Estimated Total Cost:

1 - Room cost as above.

2 - Approximate fuel cost for whole trip at average 17km/ltr @ could be S$400(estimated)

3 - Daily food consumption approximately S$15/day or any amount.

4 - In summary, estimated total cost will be S$4,000 (food, room, petrol, trains, China agent with support car) for a group of 6 motorcycles. Excluded are personal expenses such as massage, R&R activities, day tours.

** This is not a guided tour/ride. Participants are expected to understand the nature of long haul rides and are able to expect the unexpected. All costs will be 100% visible and transparent as we are not here to make money. We want like-minded riders to join and make the group, as more riders mean less costs per person too.

 

Itinerary

** To Chiang Mai by train from Hatyai via Bangkok and crossing via Chiang Kong/Boten/Mohan

** China leg 9 days, Malaysia/Thai/Laos the remaining 9 days. More details during first meeting

** Pillions are welcome up to each biker's comfort, however, recommended for pillion to fly into Kunming and arrangements will be made for them to meet the group at China border

 

Gearing:

This ride is during China's Spring period where weather could be pleasant between 10c to 17c average. Even so, we would need to be prepared with layers as the altitude will vary.

 

General Condition of Your Bike;

1) Tires should be at least 70% new & preferably not patched with good quality inlet valve.

 

2) Brakes properly serviced n inspected replace aged seals to prevent jammed piston pump, n new brake pad.

 

3) Check Battery & charging system.

Have experienced mech to check charging coil/alternator n regulator aka rectifier. Replace ageing battery over 2yo.

 

4) Engine oil & other oil. Use the correct viscosity, fill up accordingly n bring remainder(at least half ltr).

 

5) Cooling system. Inspect hose for leak or crack, replace them if u have not done it recently. Check fan if working n coolant well-mixed with distilled water.

 

Other preventive maintenance should be done before trip, refer to individual make manual.

 

Recommended Spares To Bring;

 

- Engine oil (balance left from servicing).

- Clutch lever (highly recommended, u won't know when u'll need it).

- Clutch cable, change new & bring used (well lubricated & stud greased).

- Extra Chain lube & spare chain clip for chain driven bike.

- other spares at own will.

 

Border Documentation

- a copy of ur bike country of origin registration paper. Use ur singpass login to http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publis...l?skipscript=1 to print out a copy. Make sure ur bike details is complete with ur name & NRIC.

- Your passport must be more than 6 months old.

- All of us will purchase Thai 3rd party coverage at Sadao border, Laos insurance at Huay Xai and China agent will sort out for the China leg

- Everyone pls make sure to get a stamp-in at Mlysn check point, otherwise u will have plm exiting Mlysia at Bkt Kayu Hitam border.

Please also get the Letter of Conveyance from Sadao. My recent trip to Laos, both Thai and Laos side requires it. Also International Driving license which can apply from AA Singapore. Done on the spot. Have copies of them too. Copies of Passport also... Attached is the letter of conveyance.
