I am not really sure where this thread is leading us to, and what is the actual issue or point of discussion that's really the contention. "Flip prata"? , but, what about the rights between 2 parties to enter into an agreement, - a private contract that is, to buy and sell? Is it illegal to do it in this forum? If "Mr A" enters into a private contract with "Mr B" to buy and sell, with all the agreement made within the context of the law, whats the issue then? Does it not that this forum "facilitates" such practices, that is, to buy or to sell? Can the administrators enlightens your stand? You seems to promote, yet, seems also allow threads of "envious bickering". Are we against free market - laisser faire economy? - the very essence of how this bike forum have survive over the years? So, about the "sample exposure", whats the real issue? Is it the way the 'goods', in this instance, the 'bike' being advertised? Being bought & resold? Or, as someone put it earlier, should we relook at our own attitude,... envious? sour grapes? No, didn't mean to criticize anyone here.

 

The latest "exposure" is about Mr Jackie, the seller, & Mr Jeffrey, the buyer. The contract - to buy and sell - was done. As far as we know, - its over and its legal. Surely, Mr Jackie must have agreed to the price he wants to sell or to the price Mr Jeffrey offered to buy. Surely, its gullible of us to assume Mr Jackie expect that Mr Jeffrey must take care of the bike for his entire life after buying, and not resell it at a higher price later on, - even seems immediately, afterwards. Can we dictate what Mr Jeffrey should do with his newly owned bike? Now then he has decided to resell, well, perhaps that is the enterprising spirit of Mr Jeffrey. Must we assume Mr Jackie make a big loss? Must we assume Mr Jeffrey will surely make money? Is it not also a risk that Mr Jeffrey took for buying Mr Jackie's bike? Is it an agreed private contract between 2 parties? But, is it illegal? So now, should we put the assumption that Mr Jeffrey is a cheat? "Dishonest characters" that need to be exposed?

What is the real gist here that we are trying to discredit? What is the direction of this thread? Perhaps the administrators should clarify. I believe we should not be facilitating a culture of envy. Discrediting others and acting purely base on assumptions is not the right direction if we want the sense of camaraderie among bikers to flourish.

 

To put on record, - I knew none of the characters above. My stand, - I would say to Mr Jackie, "Congratulations, & very lucky indeed that you managed to sell your bike". To Mr Jeffrey, "Congratulations, good luck to your new bike. Hope you can sell. Good luck". To all future buyers, its your responsibility to check the bike condition. Please do seek all the options available to help you in this area. Get help from fellow bikers, mechanics, benchmarking from open market sources, social media opinions etc. And after all careful considerations, - if price is non issue, - if condition of the bike is worth taking the risk, & if you really like to own it, .... if you got the qualified license of course, NO ONE can stop you.

i remember selling abike to a guy name jackie. he works in a bike shop. after buying from me, i got a call from a man who said that he bought at a higher price than what i sold.

then man who bought the bike from jackie was so furious because jackie told him that buyer was only the 2nd or third owner but after buying and checking with lta, he found out he was the 6th owner.

its ok to be flippers or dealers... its when u on purpose buy over junk at low prices, do a cosmetic makeover and try to pass of as excellent condition, that's where the problem starts.

 

Sometimes, these flippers r not even aware of the exact issues of the bikes but the cosmetic makeovers remove the traces of such problems.

 

Like a girl putting on makeup n look swee.. but after riding her once n the cosmetic wears off due to the hard riding, u see the real her. Wont u feel suckered if u have paid $500?

It matters because re-sellers just inflate normal reasonable price to unreasonable level. Who from ordinary people benefit from it???

 

And these wankers also lie left and right when they try to negotiate their deals. It is up to you if you like such people, but I don't. I dont have any friends from that bunch and wont teach my kids to do the same for a living. Low life crippers exist no choice lah (until someone smack them to the wall or across the face with crowbar - well deserved payment for greedy profit).

Personal distaste for parasitical businesses that add no real value to the riding community. Even goods middlemen provide a service (buyer/seller representation). This guy playing bike market like stock market, which is CLEARLY NOT WHAT IT EXISTS FOR. Legal you say? So what? He operates with bad business ethics, and exposés exist to make sure businesses like this disappear bc the community frowns upon it!

 

Look, everyone's been burned as a newbie 2b rider before. But the experienced ones here are quick to flick off 'stupid buyers' who get (sorta) scammed by this dude. I'd rather stand on the side of the uneducated buyer coz sometimes its not their fault if they have busy jobs and aren't savvy enough to research. Not everyone is as free as ppl like us typing long forum posts.

 

Plus he gives us genuine private sellers a bad rep. If a lot of riders get burnt and are unhappy w the second hand market bc of one dude, that's a disproportionate amount of negative sentiment generated by one black sheep. Trust lost in the community is very hard to gain back. Then we all suffer. Isn't it obvious taking such businesses down has more net benefit to the community?

 

He's not stupid and seems quite resourceful. Obviously has a lot of capital too. Can't he find better ways to make money instead of preying on those with less options and less knowledge?

 

Sad to say i encountered a bike flipper. sold my underutilised Moto Guzzi V7II to this guy who claimed to appreciate the bike, but not particularly well-off due to family commitment. I sold it to this person at a considerable discount because I had this altruistic wish that another rider can enjoy good rides and take good care of the bike.
