Anyways in yesterday and today's straits times:

Qantas 744 on approach to VTBS experienced power failure. Landed safely on back-up power. Not the first incident.

SIA's a380 went off the tarmac during pushback. Apparently hydraulic failure on the towing vehicle disconnected it from the plane. I hope the bird's ok.

Fwhahaha...that A380 incident is definitely not because of "pilot-error", that's for sure!

Microsoft Flight Simulator X ?

IMO, this software

1. Gives you an idea of how an aeroplane is flown, right from the cockpit. From the small Cessna to the jumbo 747 (and you can roleplay)

2. Lets you understand that with all flights, there's phenomenon that pilots have to deal with. Bad weather, engine outages, instrument failures. Again, you can choose to roleplay, or just fly in fine weather and a 100% "working" airplane.

3. Does *not* give you the real "feel" of what a real pilot gets when flying an aeroplane...as the yoke or Airbus sidestick would provide. A lot of pilots provided opinions on this.

4. Comes with ultra-simple-to-learn cockpit controls that most aircraft-savvy and real pilots find too lacking.

For instance, the engine start sequence in this MSFS game just takes a few flip-ups of switches and a turn of the start knob...whereas in real life, there are more switches to operate, and additional instruments to rely upon.

(People do sell 3rd-party add-on cockpits that try to mimic real-life cockpits of aircraft...those are what I recommend using, but again, nothing beats the real thing)

5. Is graphics-intensive. Definitely eats up all of your computer's resources and processing power. It's far worse than that of people playing World of Warcraft or a game of FIFA soccer.

6. Loads of fun.

Poor A380... :pity:

That's the only A380 in the world. It's in the news worldwide since it was touted as the world's biggest jumbo jet.

Heard they had to fly in a 747 just to get the stranded pax to Australia. Super embarassing mishap for SIA.

Hello to 9V-SKB.

btw, is it possible to 'predict' which runway the aircraft will land (2L/R or 20L/R)? Roughly, we can gauge the wind direction.

Cos im thinking of going to changi coast road one of these days to see the a380 land or take-off. Hopefully the airport police wont come around..

The airport viewing gallery sucks. Especially terminal 2. View passengers eat.

Pardon for interjecting, but aren't there 3 runways in Changi now, if i'm not wrong?

02L, 02C and 02R

20L, 20C and 20R

The 3rd runway pair designators are for use by Changi Air Base, am I right to say that?

A British Airways jet on a flight from Beijing landed short of the runway at London Heathrow Airport on Thursday injuring three people.

I think this is the first major incident (badly damaged) for the Boeing 777... :(

That's an understatement. You have not seen the worst accidents yet.

Best part is, it all happened on short final.

Fancy a minute to do the emergency checklist before the wheels touch the ground?

How about the pax? :giddy:

Know your EFIS to your Standby Altimeters? How about where the TO/GA switches are?

This 3-year old girl knows the 777 cockpit like she knows her ABC's.

Somebody sponsor her flight training now! :cheeky:
