I think it's called the "CRS" knob? What kind of (heavy) airplane are you referring to?

Eh, no biker/ATP pilots here to give us insights?

The heading knob lets u adjust the heading and the plane will fly that heading u selected when the mode is activated.

The track (course) knob lets u adjust the track and the plane will fly that track u selected when the mode is activated. This is corrected for wind, so the plane will main the track and not blown off track by crosswinds.

Try putting 100kts xwind in ur flight sim while flying and see the difference between these 2. :)

So the heading knob is based on what instrument? So it does not correct itself due to crosswinds? As in it is just 2 axis autopilot?

"Cse" mode does make corrections?

Thanks for your input!

PS: Dutch roll, is it possible to purposely induce it?

the heading is based on the onboard Instrument Navigation System (INS), which is basically laser gyros that tell the a/c the different axis. Heading knob is just like you walking in a certain direction reading off the compass, eg you walk in a straight line as long as the compass say you are heading 020.

Course is the actual route that you are walking along. ie if you walk with compass reading 020 all the way, you would think that you are walking in a straight line, but with cross wind, even if you are maintaing 020, the wind would blow you off so your track may not be 020.

So course mode basically compensate for cross wind by maintaining a straight line.

PS: Dutch roll, tell you after i put cheese on my Dutch croissant.

I think I remembered tinkering around with the Course or "CRS" knob on a flight simulator (i think)...and it just simply rotates the compass rose on the ND. Is that what it's meant by this feature allowing some "correction"/error-compensation?

CRS is used during final approach or enroute when tracking to or from the navaid

the lines on yr compass rose tells you where yr desired track is (line on the left means desired course on the left and same for the right) and the idea is to keep them in a straight line and you know you are on the desired course

HDG just means the aircraft flies the magnetic heading chosen and it will definitely drift if there's crosswind and yr track will be different from yr heading

Hi Guys,

First time i am in this forum (although i biked for almost 9 years) and i read from almost first page to the 16th!

Is there any unwritten rules to the SIA cadet pilot recruitment? Handsome, X factor???

What if you got not so nice set of teeth? Tatoo on your arms (wear short sleeves will still able to see) ? or some previous injuries (shin splint,) that does not bother you now? What does a medical examination includes? i have some friends trying for it but i see some of their problems as above. So does this affects them getting selected ?

I heard spine curvature is examined for stewards and stewardess. my friend was rejected entry for it. So stringent!

Can i ask a question to any sia pilots here?

What are the similarities between riding a bike and a plane in a practical sense.

Of course theory wise, planes would have tons more to learn about.

Is a good pilot automatically a good rider? Or are they grossly different?

How do i know if ill be good enough to complete the cadet pilot course if i had not handled a plane b4?

Posted

And also a question for sia pilots who did not have any prior experience in planes before cadetship.

How do u know its something u know u will love doing for sure?

The commitment is like 10 years and possibly for ur whole life. The money is good of course but there's only so much money one needs to spend to live comfortably. Ive just graduated and ive always wanted to be a pilot but im not sure if its something ill truly love.

i think you think too much... it's like riding... what pushed you to take up riding... i thought i love flying before i started flying... now after flying for 3-4 years... i come to know that i really love flying... just like riding... FREE... VERY FREE in the air..
