When on a ride to Hatyai on my 2011 650 V with my buddy riding a 2009 650 V.

Both engines were Happy above 7K rpm with minimum vibrations in 6th gear.

My V was observed to be consuming 0.5L more gas than my buddy 2009 V per petrol refill stops.

Both riding solo, however i am carrying 3 panniers with TP sensor adjusted versus only his single Top panniers.

FC abt 17.66 per litre cruising at 7K rpm at avg speed of abt 150 kmh and stable.

Only downside is there No Oomph when U want to overtake...No Instant Juice When U Crank Open e Throttle.

Especially when u close throttle and then quickly open to overtake traffic on NSHW(need to downshift).

Both of us agreed that to maintain FC & our cruising speed of 150kmh @7k rpm, we need to ride smarter with better anticipation of the vehicle traffic flow and plan our overtaking actions(Left & Right) well in advance.

SilverBullet, need your comment on the Versys brakes.

I always feel my rear brake is not gripping enough. I once tried my friend's super tenere. i can feel the jerking effect as though the bike slows down quite fast but Versys gives the feeling it is just dragging the wheels.

This is how the shock looks like after enlarging the mounting hole and swapping in the ohlins spring.

How it looks like after bolting it on

http://i.imgur.com/sLR1R.jpg

The gas reservoir, which is not existent on the stock shock, bulges prominently under the black plastic panel.*

http://i.imgur.com/OtH93.jpg

The soft spring, unfortunately, allows more shock travel and hence, the reservoir rubs on the plastic whenever i hit a huge bump or hole, and when i carry a pillion.*Rubbing patch on the reservoir definitely does not look aesthetically pleasing. As of now i have some stickers on but even that will go soon due to the constant rubbing.*I am contemplating to shave off a bit of the plastic bottom in order to avoid the contact but have yet to find the right tools and time.

Anyhow, the good thing with softer spring, at lowest preload and compressions at soft and rebound at hardest, made riding on highways feels like floating on a sofa. Potholes and bumps felt like running over small stones only niah. IT IS that comfortable! However when it comes to whacking corners in Genting and Cameron, you'll need to crank up the preload to stiffen the shock to reduce the "swaying" feel.

This is *my tyre pic BEFORE installing the R1 shock, still on the stock shock after a Genting run. Pay attention to the chicken strips.

Now this is the pic after installing the R1 shock *with some tweaking on the preload, rebound and compressions for corner whacking (different from setting for highway use as mentioned earlier), again, after a Genting run.

Thinner chicken strips! * :)

Where can I get the Ohlins springs locally in SG and how much did you paid for it? I am looking for stiffer spring to replace the stock ones.

Fusionjaz,

Agreed with your take abt the lack of rear brake effectiveness, the 650 V rear brake could have been better.

Personally i use the front brake 90% and rear brake 10% of the time bcos i have better brake control with my fingers than my foot.

Check the brake pads are OEM, than maybe changing/upgrading the brake pads to Double H sintered material may improve braking.

The only bad thing is the brake rotor will wear so much faster and abnormal brake noises may be heard occassionally.

Changing to steel braided brake hoses may help improve rear brake performance.

I don't know how true & it does not make sense but heard that changing to steel braided hoses may disable the Versys ABS system.

Most Japanese oil filters should be able to be remove or fit with the Suzuki/Honda oil filter cap that you have.

I use the same filter cap to service kawasaki and Yamaha bikes without any issue.
