normally, i'd re-format and start from scratch again..

If my PC is bought from HP-Compaq and I don't have the Vista OS disk, I cannot do the re-format right?

You still can.

HP-Compaq has the option to "burn" a set of recovery CDs / DVD from the recovery partion.

I know this from XP Pro. Ought to be for Vista.

Go for Dell. They still give you the recovery OS CDs. Guess sanity & logic still prevails there.

Yes.

Use Partition Magic.

:)

Sorry, but I'm very wary of Window's built-in "partitioning tool" coz most of the time, they dun work.

Eh Mr IT, PM 8 does not work with Vista la.

Not budget.

M$ is forcing most of them to stop issuing OEM recovery CDs for fear of piracy. After all, you can technically install the OEM CD without the need for a product key and, with some cracks, "activate" it before the 30 days end.

Sorry lah.

All the more reason why I dun like Vista.

Dont like ah OSS. Tried Ubuntu, but didnt like it.

Anyway, there are certain criterias to be fulfilled before you can actually extend and merge the 2 partitions. I've extended and merged 2 partitions before using the Windows Disk Mgmt, with no problems. Wish i could help, but i can't quite remember the criterias.

Just google perhaps "merge partitions in Vista" and i believe you could get tonnes of instructions.

I use Acronis Disk Director Suite v10

Easy to use, intuitive, does many partitioning tricks that you want it to do. That's why I had dropped Partition Magic..hated Symantec for taking over the software as well.

The latest version off of its website (and Singapore store) runs on Vista.

Reddy bro,

Is your laptop still under warranty?

If yes you can ask the shop you buy from to do it for you F.O.C.

Better than mess up the whole system.......then warranty void!
